Chapter 69 Power Couple
Chapter Seventy
“The Headquarters?!”
Madam Graves and the Chairman were astonished by that request.
Aria wanted to work in the headquarters directly?
But that would be literally impossible. How would she cope there or meet up with her tasks?
Seeing their silence, Aria hurried to convince them, “I really want to help the family by being at the forefront. And if I worked at the headquarters, I’m sure I would be able to contribute greatly there. “
The Chairman and Madam Graves looked at each other in disbelief while Lucian had a thoughtful look on his face.
The headquarters had employees who had graduated from elite schools only, won several awards or even studied overseas.
They were well versed in their jobs and earned their pay with the utmost efficiency.
Bringing Aria into the headquarters to work alongside those employees who had worked hard to make their way to the top, seemed kind of unfair to the Chairman.
He frowned, thinking about the situation.
Aria had no qualifications, nor did she have any skills. She might actually hinder her coworkers, instead of helping them and that would be a pain in the ass.
And if her identity was known, it would go out that she’d come into the headquarters through nepotism.
The Chairman did not want anything like that to tarnish his image or the reputation of the Graves Empire Headquarters.
“She cannot work in the headquarters,” he thought to himself, “But since it’s her wish to work, I’ll try to fit her in somewhere. Perhaps a subsidiary that’s also as good as the headquarters.”
But Madam Graves had something else in mind.
“I don’t know, I think we can make it work.” She uttered to the Chairman’s chagrin, “An entry level position in the headquarters would be quite nice. And she can try to further her education as well.”
The chairman snorted with indignation at his wife’s suggestion. He was trying to diffuse the situation by making sure Aria did not work in the headquarters at all, and here was his wife saying it would be better for her to work there.
He was about to speak up when Aria replied Madam Graves.
“An entry level position would not suit me, Mother,” she uttered quite seriously, “I think being the head of a team, maybe marketing, is a more suitable position for me.”
“What?!” Both the Chairman and Madam Graves said in astonishment, “The head of a team?!”
“Aria, that’s a bit too much, don’t you think?” Madam Graves asked nervously.
Aria’s lifted her chin, “No mother, just give me a chance and I will prove to you all that it’s not too much at all.”
The Chairman could not believe what he was hearing. He was not going to let Aria work in the headquarters, talk less of making her the head of a team.
He was going to pacify her with another position or maybe more gifts. Women seemed to like that a lot.
However, before he could say anything, Lucian spoke up, “Done.”
The Chairman was dumbstruck, “What?!” He barked, “What do you mean , ‘done?!”
Lucian ignored him, placing a hand protectively across his wife’s shoulder before he turned to face his father, “Well, it is what she wants. And we agreed to give her whatever she wants, as long as it’s not the entire Graves Empire,” he uttered calmly.
He looked down at Aria in the curve of his arm and smiled affectionately, “Although, I dare say, she would manage it handsomely too.”
They both stared at each other for long moments, their eyes filled with affection. Lucian was very sure that if Aria was given a high position in the headquarters, she would in turn amaze them.
He believed she could do anything if she sets her mind to it. Infact, he could not wait to see how everything would play out.
He was excited to see what she would bring to the Graves Empire.
The Chairman looked at both of them in dismay, shaking his head sadly. He knew now that Lucian’s heart had been irrevocably captured by his wife.
“Oh my god, I have a headache,” the chairman muttered as he grabbed his forehead dramatically, “You’re done for, boy! You’re really done for if you want to continue this way.”
“Just let them be!” Madam Graves uttered sharply to her husband, but then she bestowed a sweet smile on the other two, “As long as she’s happy, and if we can do it, what’s the big deal?”
“But the headquarters…” the Chairman moaned in anguish, while shaking his head sadly.
“Aria is a very hardworking girl,” Madam Graves assured him, “I’m sure she would make us proud in no time. Didn’t you see how she got Lucian to wake up from his coma?”
Aria beamed once more, nodding her head, “Yes mother. Father, I won’t let you down. You will never regret your decision, trust me.”
At that moment, their cars were brought around and they prepared to leave the Beaumont residence.
“Mother. Father. Lucian and I will be going shopping before we head back to the house,” Aria suddenly announced as the Chairman and Madam Graves got into their car.
“We are?” Lucian asked, unaware of such plans but then he nodded, “Is there anything you need? We can have them delivered to you?”
Aria shook her head, “Nope. I prefer checking out my clothes before paying for them, dear.” She uttered, then stopped, looking him over, “You also need to come with me to pick out somethings for yourself. You’re going back to the company soon, right?”
Lucian wanted to say that his closet was overflowing with designer suits, which his mother had handpicked for him when he was in a coma, but he pushed down the words.
This was even an opportunity to spend more time with her and he was not going to be giving it up for the world.
So he nodded, giving her a smile, “Yes you’re right. I do need to pick out a few things for myself.”
With that, they bowed to the Chairman and Madam Graves and watched their car roll away before getting into their own car.
It was a smooth ride and soon, the car came to a stop before one of the most luxurious shopping centers in the city.
Coincidentally, this shopping mall was also owned by the Graves family and the employees quickly recognized Lucian when they walked in.
Not only the employees but also the crowd which were shopping in the mall. They gawked at Lucian and Aria, forgetting their own shopping as they trailed after the couple.
“Is that Lucian Graves? Oh my God, it’s true! He is back!”
“Who’s that woman by his side? Is that his wife!”
“I heard he was married to a country bumpkin while in his vegetative state but this woman…”
“She does not look like a country bumpkin. She looks like a celebrity! Who is she?!”
“It’s Aria Beaumont of the Beaumont Empire! Wow, who would have thought a country bumpkin would be so beautiful!”
