Chapter 26 His Cure!
Chapter Twenty-Six
Zach stopped in the middle of pushing his luggage out the door of his room.
He blinked multiple times as if to clear his hearing, “I’m sorry, what did you just say?”
Lucian rolled his eyes, his teeth clenching, “Just find out everything you can about her.”
“Hold on a damn second, Lucian.” Zach uttered, laughter escaping him, “You’re married?!”
Lucian was silent as he listened to Zach laugh his head off through the phone. He had known it would come to this and sometimes he was really tired of Zach’s antics.
As his friend, Zach used every little thing under the sun to tease him with.
“Are you done?” Lucian gritted out after a few minutes.
“Yea, that…,” Zach was wheezing from his laughter, “…that was just too hilarious, man! Ha! You’re married! What happened to keeping yourself for Elara Vaughn?”
Ever since they were kids, Lucian had steered away from girls and women.
All, except one.
Elara Vaughn.
He loved her secretly, but to Zach’s exasperation, he’d never done anything to try to win her over.
Instead, he indulged himself in stupid rivalry with her, while he nursed his sorrow over drinks, whenever he saw Elara with another man, Kurt Eugene.
He’d always urged Lucan to take his shot with the woman, but his friend was just too stubborn.
“I’m content with seeing her happy, and if she’s happy with Kurt, then so be it.” He would say grimly, even though they both knew Kurt Eugene was not deserving of Elara at all.
A slimy sort of a man, Kurt Eugene had never found favour in Lucian or Zach’s eyes.
He was frivolous and cheated on Elara Vaughn right and left, but Lucian wanted her to come to her senses on his own.
And then he’d be waiting for her with his arms wide open.
Zach thought it was dumb.
He was all for revealing Kurt’s true nature to Elara, then having her break up with the bastard.
Lucian had said no, and Zach had dropped the matter, resigning himself to watching Lucian pine for her day by day.
But now, he was married?!
To another woman?
This piece of news tickled Zach so much, and he had a hard time keeping down his laugter. He could not wait to get back to the city so he could tease Lucian all the more.
Lucian had not answered his question and he did not feel like answering, “Just get me what I asked for, dude! ASAP.”
“Alright, alright,” Zach replied, “Just take a deep breath and relax, okay.” Then he stopped, “Hold on a second, if she’s your wife, how come you know nothing about her?”
Lucian held his forehead in frustration.
He had forgotten how inquisitive Zach could be.
Although, he very much needed to ask questions considering the line of work he was into, but Lucian was reluctant to tell him what was happening.
If he told Zach that he’d been married off while he was in a coma, Zach would make fun of him with that fact for the rest of his life.
“Of course I know things about her,” he said, lying through his teeth, “I just need you to find out more information for me. You can do that, right Zach?”
“Hmm.” Zach uttered, smiling knowingly, “You’re hiding something from me. But that’s fine. I’ll get back to you as soon as possible. Expect my return to the Graves Estate tomorrow.”
With a sigh, Lucian hung up the phone, relaxing back on his bed.
Dealing with Zach was tiring, but it felt good to converse with his friend once more.
Zach was also the best man that he knew was fit for the job. He’d be getting that information on Aria Beaumont the next day, and he’d know exactly what to do with her.
“A country bumpkin, huh?” He muttered to himself, “What a joke.”
When Aria had been with him in the room earlier to have dinner, he’d noticed how she used her cutlery.
Delicately and correctly, almost like Royalty.
There’s no way a person who was raised in the country side would use cutlery like that.
She had also drank her wine in a manner that raised his brows concerning her upbringing.
Sniff, swirl, savoring the taste like a connoisseur.
That Aria Beaumont has something to hide, and he was going to rip her mask off her face.
Just then, the door creaked open and Aria walked into the room.
The room was dimly lit with all the curtains drawn and the dim lighting to help Lucian sleep better.
She scoffed and turned on the brighter light.
Lucian hissed with pain as the bright lights hit his eyes, “What the hell?!” He yelled, “Are you trying to kill me, woman?!”
“How can you say that to someone who made you wake up?” Aria uttered as she walked over to his bed, her hands clasped tight behind her and a catlike smile on her face.
Lucian stared at that smile and swallowed hard. He did not know why he was at peace with this woman and at the same time, afraid of her.
She was just too unpredictable.
“That was just a coincidence.” He grumbled coldly as he settled back on the bed, “My waking up has nothing to do with you.”
Aria scoffed, “You just keep deluding yourself with that thought.” She uttered as she sat on the bed and drew close to him even more, “But everyone here calls me the Graves family miracle worker.”
Lucian gulped hard as he stared at her pixie like face so close to his. His eyes were drawn to her lips as they stretched in a smile, and his throat suddenly became dry.
“Why are you so close?” He muttered in a strained voice, turning his head away from her, “I told you, I am a germaphobe. I’m allergic to people touching me!”
“Oh is that so?” Aria uttered as she used a finger to turn his face back to hers, “Well do not worry. I will be your cure.”
