Chapter 13 He’s Awake!
Chapter Thirteen
“Why do I have to be the one to face this?” She muttered tiredly to herself, her arms in her waist, “First I appeared in this weak body, second I have to deal with annoying in-laws, and then take care of my comatose husband?! Haeww!”
She turned towards the bed, another sigh coming out of her as she sat on it.
She lifted her gaze slowly and it fell on Lucian.
Lucian Graves.
For the first time in a long time, she could finally look at him.
When Lucian had his accident, he disappeared from society. Although people wondered why and there were a lot of rumors flying, Lucian never appeared in society for those three years.
Even before then, it was hard for them to see each other, except at business conferences or bidding events for projects and stuff like that.
Even back then, it was not like they discussed like old friends so it was very unlikely, that she would remember what he’d looked like.
She inhaled deeply, then exhaled slowly in shaky breaths.
He was devastatingly handsome!
His features looked like they had been sculpted by a divine being, and they were very pleasant to look at. He had a well defined jaw and high cheek bones which seemed strong and intimidating even in his sleep.
His full hair was as black as sin and quite long, framing his face and neck and giving him almost feminine features.
“You handsome devil,” she muttered, a great sadness welling up in her once more, “Why do you have to be the one lying down here? Huh? When are you gonna wake up?”
Even though he was her greatest rival, she did not wish this on even her enemy. She felt sad for not knowing this had happened to him all along.
Lucian remained asleep, his long lashes almost drooping over his cheek.
She marveled at it, reaching out to touch it slightly.
As soon as her fingers brushed his eyes, a surge of electricity passed through her hand and Elara gasped from the shock of it.
“Ow!” She said softly as she pulled back her hand, blowing into the tips of her fingers, “That was so sudden. What the hell?”
She looked down back at Lucian, and her gaze met a pair of striking blue-green eyes.
Lucian!
He’s awake!
Aria arose from the bed in alarm, “ARGGHH!”
In seconds, there came the sounds of footsteps running to the door, and the door was suddenly pushed open as though it had been kicked.
The entire family burst into the room, accompanied by the doctor.
They found Aria standing close to the wall, staring at the bed in terror. They looked from her to the bed, but the dim lighting was not enough for them to see that Lucian was staring at them.
“You! Woman! What have you done to the young master?!” The doctor yelled, heading straight for her, “I knew it was a bad idea to let you here.”
Aria was still trying to recover from her earlier shock of seeing a man who was thought to be comatose, staring blatantly at her.
She could not say much, except point towards the bed, “He…He’s…”
Madam Graves reached out for Aria at once, “What’s the matter? What…”
She asked then stopped as her gaze instinctively turned to the bed again, and she saw herself looking into her son’s eyes.
Lucian groaned as he tried to sit up but he could not. He swallowed hard to clear his parched throat, “Mom,”
Madam Graves gasped and stumbled backwards, her husband catching her safely from behind.
The rest of the family now had their eyes clearly used to the dimmed lighting, and they were shocked to their bones by what they were seeing.
“LUCIAN!”
“You’re awake! Oh my god!”
“Oh thank the heavens! This is a miracle!,” Madam Graves was saying over and over again as she approached the bed , touching Lucian’s face with shaky hands, “This is a great miracle!”
The Chairman could barely stand from the joy, “Lucian!” He called in a gruff voice, thick with emotion, “You did well my son! You did well!”
“How…” Nathan was dumbfounded, “…How can this happen?!”
Aria was watching him and when his hands clenched into tight fists, it immediately caught her attention.
She saw Nathan and Monica exchange looks with the doctor, their faces filled with worry and a sprinkling of…desperation?
What is their problem?
“This…this is impossible,” Monica thought out loud, “How did Lucian suddenly come out of coma after three years? After everything that happened…”
“Of course it can only be because of Aria!” Madam Graves exclaimed once more.
With the joy overflowing from her, she didn’t suspect Monica’s question in any way, “I knew there was something about her when she first came into our home. Now she had awaken Lucian.” She went on happily, “She has brought good luck to our family!”
“But still…” Nathan uttered, turning to look at Aria once more, his eyes filled with wonder, disbelief and…rage?
Aria scoffed, crossing her arms defensively.
“What the hell kind of reaction is this?” She muttered to herself as she glared back at the man.
“Oh stop analyzing it already!” Madam Graves snapped at Nathan cordially, then smiled brightly at Lucian, “All that matters is that she helped revived Lucian. She is a miracle worker!”
She threw herself on Lucian once more, hugging him to stupor.
The poor man groaned in pain but he could only manage it. “Mom, that’s enough!” He said, gasping for breath
His voice was coarse and he was extremely weak. He did not need his mother’s weight crushing his ribs at this moment.
He had a headache.
His family was just too noisy for him and he needed time to process what was going on.
He was confused as hell. His throat was parched. His eyes hurt from the light but somehow, they kept riveting towards the woman who stood by the wall, staring him with a pale face.
But first, he had to drink some water, dammnit!
“Water,” he croaked, “Get me some water.”
“Quick! Someone get him some water!” The chairman ordered, motioning towards the maids who had also crowded into the room once they heard the good news.
The Doctor, however, stopped them as they rushed out of the room in a flurry.
“Hold on! Let’s not give him anything until he’s had a thorough check up,” the man uttered grimly, reaching for his medical bag.
