Chapter 29: Oppressive Aura
Reese gripped the pen in his hand tightly when he asked the question. He was so anxious that veins popped up on his tightly clenched hand.
Myra could swear she felt a weird energy coming from Reese. It was depressing, and she suddenly felt a pang of pain in her chest. She frowned. The feeling was too foreign, and she didn't want to understand what that was. She always ignored things she didn't understand, and it wasn't different this time. She was very aware of the bond they shared, but she just didn't want to pursue that at that moment. She had already been traumatized by the first person she shared a bond with. How could she take it lightly? She had lost all trust in men. That's why, despite the good things Reese did for her, she still couldn't open up to him. It was so stressful that she massaged her temples. She felt bad for treating him that way, but that was just her escape mechanism. Otherwise, who knew if the second heartbreak would hurt even more? Moreover, she was wolfless, while he was a rich and powerful dark lycan, who was known by everyone in the country. As an alpha of that large pack, he needed a strong luna to stand and fight by his side. She, on the other hand, was wolfless. What could she do other than drag him down with her? For some reason, she felt that the moon goddess was playing a game with her. Anyway, she just had to say no, right?
Reese had a bad feeling. It kept on growing.
"I-"
"Don't be so quick to turn me down, Myra." Myra had just begun talking when Reese cut her mid statement. He didn't want to hear anything negative from her. And he could tell that was what she wanted to say. When he spoke, there was a hint of pleading in his voice. Myra furrowed her brows when she heard him say that. Why was this guy so stubborn?
"Reese, I'm sorry, but we are not compatible. " Myra decided to hit the nail on the head. Even Reese himself knew of that fact. She wondered why he couldn't stop pestering her.
"That's for me to decide." As he said this, the aura around turned overly dangerous and sinister. The growl he made made Myra subconsciously shudder. All the words that were about to come from her mouth were swallowed back instantly. For the first time, she felt fear. She had never seen him so angry. After contemplating for a while, with a wildly beating heart, she asked softly;
"Then, can it wait?" She sighed. That was the only response she could think of. Fortunately, after she said that, the oppressive aura around her dissipated a little. She could finally breathe again.
"Okay. I'll wait. Don't keep me waiting for too long." Reese said. Myra had no problem with that, so they continued chatting for a while before hanging up.
Even when she got out of the shower, her heart was still beating widely, as though she had just escaped a death sentence. She was scared by his aura, truly. It was so intimidating that she wasn't sure what would have happened if she'd said no. She walked down the stairs in a daze, but her heart felt warm somehow. When he said, "That's up to me to decide," it had made Myra feel somewhat special. It meant that he couldn't care less about what people would say about her, as long as he chose her. This wasn't just a statement. It was said to show how devoted he already was to her, but why? There was the option of him rejecting her and their bond, so why didn't he do that? Why would he go through all the hassle? No matter how much she thought about it, she couldn't arrive at a conclusion on the reason as to why he did that. Could it be that he saw some value in her? But Myra shook her head. What value? As powerful as he was, was there anything he lacked? Of course not. She decided not to think about it and went to join her grandparents at the dining room.
"Darling, did you have a good night's rest?" As she asked this, her grandma held her hand and examined her from head to tea. Her granddaughter was too beautiful, she would always show off in front of her friends from time to time. They were so envious. They had granddaughters, but not as beautiful as Myra.
"Yes. " Myra nodded with a smile and let her grandma examine her. She was always treated like a delicate porcelain doll, which always made her speechless. But since they loved her and meant no harm, she would always indulge them.
"Good, let's have breakfast." Her grandma said. The old man, who was ignored at the side, felt a little jealous and looked at Myra with some resentment. Myra's lips twitched. Crap, how could she have forgotten about him?
"Good morning, Grandpa." Myra smiled at and said. This made his expression shift.
"Good , good. Let's eat." The old man was clearly in a good mood.
After they were done eating,
"Oh right, darling, accompany me to go shopping, okay?" Grandma said and held Myra's hand with a pleading expression.
Shopping? Myra could already feel.a headache coming on. She never liked shopping, so why did her grandma suddenly bring it up?
