Chapter 26: In Return?
Myra's fingers hovered above her phone for a while before she decisively pressed the call button. On the other end, Reese was holding a pack meeting. The air in the conference room was so tense that no one dared breathe so loudly. What if that alone pissed him off? Just when everyone was on tenterhooks, a phone rang in the conference room. The ringtone was so sharp that everyone could only light candles for the person who owned the phone. After all, even a deaf person could've heard the ringtone. What made matters worse was that the boss had made it clear that no one was allowed to carry his phone to the conference room. They silently prayed for that person because they knew the wrath that awaited wasn't to be taken lightly. Just as they thought the boss, known as the dark lycan, would explode, they saw him calmly fish out his phone from the pocket. It was still ringing, so it was clear that the phone belonged to him. Everyone widened their eyes. Who was so gutsy to call their boss? Did they have a death wish?
Myra looked at the phone that was ringing but got no response. She thought that maybe he was busy and decided to hang up. She wasn't the kind to be unreasonable. She believed that he would call back if he found her missed call later. With this thought in mind, she decided to hang up for the time being.

Just as she was about to hang up, Reese's magnetic voice permeated through the other end of the phone and into her ears. What Myra loved the most about Reese was his face. He was so handsome. She had never seen or met any man as handsome as him. His beauty was unparalleled. Her second attraction towards him was because of his voice. His voice had a calming yet intoxicating feel to it, and she couldn't resist it.
"Hello." Reese spoke. His voice made Myra's ears sound itchy for some reason. However, she composed herself after a few seconds.
"Did you do that?" As usual, Myra wasn't the kind to beat around the bush. Reese, upon hearing her question, raised his brow. As expected, the girl wasn't the kind to act all shy and bashful. Reese had seen how she usually behaved around him and knew clearly that she didn't know anything about matters of the heart. She was mostly emotionless and indifferent, and Reese knew he had a long way to go if he wanted to win her heart.
"Yes, I did." Reese said, and an imperceptible smile graced his lips. Even though it wasn't overly visible, those who paid attention could see it. The sharp-eyed pack members, mostly the deltas, could clearly see the curve at the corners of his lips.
"What do you want in return?" There's definitely something he wanted in return. There's no way he would give away such an expensive thing for free.
The truth was , Reese didn't need anything in return. He just hoped he could cheer her own. She had been down since her parents disappeared, and the only thing she enjoyed was playing games and doing research. For relaxation, he decided to buy her gaming equipment. Maybe she could get her mind off things that way, right?
Reese's eyes flashed darkly when she asked the question. Was she that guarded against him? Or was it that she'd just never received a gift from someone for free?

Initially, Reese didn't want anything from her, but he knew if he said so, he would make her feel uncomfortable. He could only think for a while before saying:
"Nothing at the moment." Reese said. Myra thought for a while and understood what he meant. What he meant was that he would tell her what he wanted when the time was right.
"Okay." Myra said. Her voice was gentle and soothing, and Reese loved listening to it. It was just that she didn't like talking much, which was regretful to Reese. If possible, he would love to see her chat away normally. He hated the people who made her that way. Slowly, he would make each and every one of them pay.
"I'll call you later, okay?" Reese softened his tone and said after a moment of silence.
"Okay." Myra nodded and hung up. She didn't even notice that Reese's demeanor had changed. She couldn't care less anyway. But the pack members watching him from the side were shocked, and their eyes widened as they stared at their alpha. When Reese turned his sharp eyes to look at them, everyone trembled.
