Chapter 24: The Grandeur Apex
Reese listened to her silent breathing and knew that she didn't want to talk about it. He wouldn't press further either.
"Are you eating well?" Reese was worried. She was small for her age, yet she only had a few mouthfuls and would claim she was full after.
"Of course. Grandma makes sure I eat lots of meat." Myra instantly answered. She knew what he was thinking, and she swore she would get tall and flaunt it in front of him! Myra didn't even notice that she was planning on keeping in contact with Reese, the person she had decided to stay away from. Neither did she notice how childish she looked like.
Reese's eyes flashed with a smile. He could already envision how the little wild cat looked while saying that. It was as if someone had stepped on her tail, and she was acting up.
"Good. Then I'll have to thank Grandma for this." Reese commented after the while. His eyes still had mirth from earlier.
"That's my grandma." Myra said almost immediately. How dare he act overly familiar with her grandmother? There's no way she would allow her grandma to be snatched away by him!
Reese's lips twitched. Why didn't he know that Myra was that wild? She had always been cold and indifferent. He never expected to see that side of her.
"Fine. I'll have to thank your grandma then." Reese said with a sigh. What could he do? He could only let her have her way. The two chatted for a while before hanging up, and Myra was grinning by the time the call ended. That's because she'd gotten the upper hand in everything they talked about. It was as if her competitive spirit had awakened all of a sudden.
When she went downstairs, no one was in the living room. It seemed as if her grandparents were still napping. She had no intention of waking them up, so she curled on the couch lazily like a cat and began playing a game on her phone. The game was called The Grandeur Apex. It had suddenly become famous for the past few months. It was known for its difficulty levels, and whoever managed to maneuver through it was a god among the players. Myra wouldn't care about such a weird title. She only enjoyed challenges, and she liked how she could develop new strategies just from playing the game. She didn't know why people said it was hard because she always enjoyed playing the game and leveling up. She was engrossed in playing so much that she forgot about the unpleasant things she had experienced earlier. The sounds of killing announcements were what filled the entire living room. The maids looked at Myra from time to time and couldn't help but sigh. The girl was just too beautiful. She was so small that people just wanted to protect her for the rest of their lives. Coupled with her pure and twinkling eyes, she looked like a goddess who was untouchable in the world. But she was too cold, and they didn't have the guts to do that. They were just servants, after all.
After playing for a while, Myra got bored and went to get her iPad. She didn't bring her computer with her. She left it at Reese's place because she believed he would take care of it. It had a lot of confidential information, and she didn't want to lose it. Even though she'd already backed everything up, that laptop held significant importance to her. It was what her parents gifted her on her 18th birthday. It was modified just to her liking, and that showed just how much they valued her. They knew everything she liked by heart, and she didn't need to remind them. She was their favorite, and despite the fact that she was mostly apathetic, she could at least feel her parents' genuine love and warmth. She really missed them. But what could she do? It seemed like no matter how she tried to look for them, nothing fruitful happened. It was like everything was obstructed by God-knows-what.
Myra was so engrossed in her research that she didn't even notice that someone was sitting beside her on the couch. It was only when a glass of fruit juice was passed to her that she raised her head.
"Grandma?" Myra called out. She wondered why she didn't hear any movement beside her. Was she too engrossed earlier.
"Hmm. I can see that you are working really hard, but darling, at least have some juice first, okay?" Her grandma said as she passed her the juice.
"Okay. Thank you, grandma." Myra said with a smile before taking a sip. Her eyes narrowed as she enjoyed the sweetness. She looked so cute that her grandma couldn't resist the urge to gently squeeze her, and that's what she did. Myra, who had just taken another sip, was stunned and looked at her grandma quizzically. Her cheeks were still puffed up because of the juice in her mouth.
"My darling is just so cute. I couldn't resist the urge." Her grandma said and shrugged.
Myra was speechless. If there was someone who was obsessed with her beauty, it had to be her grandma. She couldn't say anything and just offered her a smile. What else could she say?
Just as they were enjoying the peaceful atmosphere, the doorbell rang. It was a maid who went to answer it. After a while, she came and stood before Myra.
"Miss, you have a package delivery waiting outside." The maid said, which made Myra furrow her brows. A package?
