Chapter 23: Research competition
When they saw Myra go back to her bedroom looking desolate, the two elders in the living room looked at each other worriedly. It had been so long since they saw her look so sad. The fact that she was fine earlier and had even accompanied them to have lunch only confirmed their guesses. Something had really happened, and knowing her, she wouldn't tell them. She always thought she would be burdening people if she shared her issues with them. Even so, since her grandma was worried, she decided to go and check out the situation.
Myra didn't even realize that she didn't lock the door when she went to the bedroom. She was just so confused. So, when her grandma saw the things happening inside, she felt her heart twist in pain. Inside, even though Myra had covered herself with a quilt, her grandma could see her trembling body as she curled herself in a fetal position. It was as if no one could be trusted in the world, and she was all alone. Her grandma secretly wiped a tear at the corner of her eye before gently locking the slightly ajar door and leaving. She really hoped her Myra would try to confide in her. She really looked forward to such a day, but looking at it, she felt that it was definitely a dream that would never come true. After all, who didn't know Myra? No matter how much sad she felt, she would never show it. Thinking about it gave her grandma a headache. She went downstairs while sighing nonstop.

"What happened? Why are you sighing?" The old man in the living room couldn't help but ask when he saw how disturbed his wife looked.
"She is sad." Grandma said as she sat down on the couch. She looked tired and restless at the same time.
"Why do you say so?" Wasn't Myra the kind not to show her emotions no matter how sad and angry she was? What then had changed?
"She was crying so sadly earlier when I went to check." When grandma remembered the sight she saw, her eyes couldn't help but redden. Why was her darling going through all that? She was so small and innocent, yet she had to go through all that?
Even the old man was surprised. He frowned, deep in thought. He couldn't understand why Myra would suddenly cry. Was she missing her parents? Even if that's the case, why had she suddenly started crying? Did someone trigger her?
"Who dares make her cry?" The old man fumed. How dare they touch his precious granddaughter?
"Calm down. Let's think of a way. Don't let her know what you are up to." Grandma calmed the old man down. She knew that Myra wouldn't like it if she knew that they were trying to avenge her. She'd rather deal with such stuff herself. She didn't want to drag her whole family down.

Myra unknowingly fell asleep after crying for God-knows-how-long. She had been sleeping a lot lately, probably because of too much stress. To her grandparents, this was a good thing. They knew that Myra always had insomnia. No matter how much people tried to treat it, the results always remained the same. They had tried all kinds of professionals to no avail. Now that they saw her sleep soundly from time to time, they heaved a sigh of relief. Grandma covered her with a quilt before turning off the light in the room and heading out. She heaved a sigh. Her darling needed sufficient rest. After making sure no one would disturb her granddaughter, the old lady also went back to her room to have an afternoon nap.
Masha, who had watched everything and listened to everything, smirked. Somehow, she was thankful that Myra's parents had disappeared. To her, as long as Myra was in pain and despair, she would always feel happy. To her, every of her misery was all thanks to Myra. Why would she allow Myra to live peacefully? She was still making plans to get rid of her completely.

When Myra woke up, it was two hours later. She had a headache and gently massaged her temples. Of course, she knew why she had a headache. Lana. The words she said, Myra decided that she wouldn't let her off. Her eyes were so puffy, and Myra knew she had to take a shower and somehow look for a way to remove the puffiness. She picked up her phone from the bed and checked the time. She was surprised to find a missed call. When she checked who the caller was, she was even more surprised. The darly lycan. Myra couldn't understand what his deal was with her, no matter how she thought about it. After thinking for a while, she gave him a call.
"Hello?" Reese spoke first. He was surprised that she would call back.
"I'm sorry I was sleepy when you called." Myra apologized. Her voice was hoarse, maybe because of crying or sleeping? And Reese caught that.
"It's okay." Reese said and cleared his throat.
"Is anything the matter?" Myra wasn't the kind to beat around the bush, so she asked.
"Oh, about that. There is going to be an intervarsity research competition, and the university sent an invitation to you via me. Shall I sign you up?" Reese asked. Ever since her parents disappeared, everything about Myra's school matters was addressed to him.
Research competition? Myra perke up.
"Yes. Thank you." Myra smiled. She loved researching, and she was looking forward to it.
"Okay." Reese said. Then silence ensued. After a long while, Reese finally asked the question he had been meaning to ask;
"Are you... okay?"
