Chapter 21: Kaelen

Chapter 21: Kaelen

"Sir." Reese's beta called as soon as he entered his office.
"What did you find." Reese asked without turning to look at him. He was busy working .
"The day before the disappearance of Miss Myra's family, they met with someone." The beta reported. His tone was so serious, and even Reese could sense the severity of the situation from his tone.
"Whom?" They met someone? Reese never expected such an outcome. He frowned in contemplation.
"Kaelen." As soon as the name was said, something snapped in Reese. He tightly gripped the pen in his hand until it broke into two. Veins bulged on his arm to show just how agitated he was at that moment. The only person who could make him lose his cool that much was Kaelen, the man who banished him five years ago from his pack.
"The contents?" Reese asked after stabilizing his emotions. He didn't want to lose his rationality until he got the whole blueprint. He still had a large and dangerous battle ahead, so he had to be stable until then.
"I haven't found that out yet." The beta said, somewhat ashamed. He felt that his incompetency was dragging their plans down and slowing Reese down.
"Do it as soon as possible. " Reese said and dismissed him. Of course, he knew Kaelen. He wouldn't let people discover his plans. What if they ruined them afterward? Kaelen was a person greedy for power, and he could do anything as long as he obtained the things he wanted. He was known to be unscrupulous, and his ways had been becoming more crude. Reese frowned. He wasn't sure what Kaelen's next move would be. The person he was worried about the most was Myra. He wasn't sure if she was okay with her grandparents' place. But looking at how strong the old man's pack was, he decided to let his worries rest.

As he sat in his study, the frown on his face never faded. He wasn't sure why Myra's parents met with Kaelen just a day before their business trip, but he was set on discovering what it was all about. Especially the contents of what was discussed among the three. That day, when he saw how lost and heartbroken Myra was after hearing the news of her parents' disappearance, he had inwardly vowed to protect her. That was why he had to get to the bottom of everything. He had to make sure she was okay and safe from all the schemes surrounding her. As he thought about Myra, he took out his phone, swiped it, and looked at her picture in the gallery. He had sneakily taken the picture when they were at the jade stone market. Despite it being a sneaky picture, the girl still looked as beautiful as ever, especially when she sat languidly on her seat while playing on her phone. Reese laughed at himself for getting distracted because of a little girl. But what could he do? The pull was getting stronger and stronger, and it was difficult for him to control himself.

Myra, who was sleeping, had no idea that people were worried about her. Well, she wouldn't believe it either if she knew it. She had been on her own since she was discovered to be wolfless. Everyone had isolated themselves, and apart from her parents and the people serving them, she believed that no one else could stand up for her. She would probably laugh it off if someone told her that they were standing up for her or that they were worried about her. After all, humans were selfish creatures, weren't they? Even if they were "worried" about her, they would still need something else from her. She was the alpha's daughter, and there were definitely many benefits people could ask from her. There's no free lunch in the world, and Myra was well aware of fact. That's why she'd rather spend time with the people who loved her genuinely instead of forcing herself into relationships where she was clearly unwelcome. She knew her place pretty well.

Myra had just come from the garden after helping her grandfather tend to his plants. She removed the disposable gloves and tossed them in the trash bin. She felt sweaty, so she wanted to go and freshen up. She was also feeling hungry, but she couldn't do so without taking a shower first. When she went into her room, she found a maid busying herself. She was picking out clothes for Myra. Myra was taken aback.
"Excuse me, what are you doing?" She couldn't help but ask.
The maid who was asked the question paused in her actions and turned to look at Myra. Myra could swear she saw shyness and hesitation on the maid's face. She raised her brow. She felt intrigued all of a sudden.
