Chapter 20: Masha's dark thoughts

Chapter 20: Masha's dark thoughts

Myra slept for three hours straight without being interrupted. About the matter of someone wanting to harm her, she put it aside first. She had to focus on other important things first. As for the matter; she would slowly investigate. The person who wanted her dead wasn't far from her. She was sure she would catch them sooner or later. She was woken up by a call. She wanted to ignore it, but when she saw that it was Reese, she decided to pick it up.
"Hi." Reese started.
"Hi." Myra said with a groggy voice. She still felt sleepy.
"Where are you?" As he asked this, his voice was filled with a tinge of anxiety. Myra wasn't a person who could read emotions fast, so she didn't catch that. Reese had gone to look for Myra at her home only to find that she had left. Left. Reese was shocked, and the first thing he did was to call her and confirm.
"At my grandparents' place." Myra said and stifled a yawn. As soon as Reese heard that she was at her grandparents' place, his anxious heart instantly calmed down.
"Then, when are you planning to come back?" Reese couldn't help but ask.
"After the holiday is over." Myra said and lay back on the bed. She still wanted to sleep.
Reese knew that their holiday was just for a month. He could wait. As for Myra, she didn't even ask why Reese was asking about it. She didn't want to think about anything during the holiday. That's why she came to relax at her grandma's place. Here, she didn't need to worry about anything. Her troubles were placed at the back of her mind.
"Alright. You can go back to sleep." He could tell that he had woken her up.
"Okay." Myra said and hung up the call. She really was sleepy. She figured it had something to do with the meds she had taken earlier after having her meal.
Reese glanced at the phone that had been hung up and twitched his lips. It was the first time someone dared to hang up on him, and he wasn't mad.

In the living room; Masha glanced at her grandpa and grandma, who were busy giving the maids instructions on what to prepare for Myra. They were so meticulous that a ball of jealousy lit up in the pits of her heart. She had always stayed with them, but she'd never seen them look so dedicated. This could only happen because it was Myra. Whether it was in the past or in the present, a fact remained. Only Myra was loved as a granddaughter and not her. Masha couldn't help but wonder. Apart from Myra's looks, was there anything else that made her inferior to Myra? No matter how she thought about it, she couldn't find an answer. So, she believed that the people were just naturally biased. She just wasn't enough for them. What Masha didn't know was that she lacked the aura that people liked. Even though she looked cute and well-behaved, she still couldn't match up to Myra. Myra was the kind who would unknowingly draw people close to her. People would always want to talk to her, play with her, or pamper her. Myra, who didn't know much about human emotions, had no idea about that. Ever since the people at the pack isolated her, she decided to be on her own. She wasn't the kind who would beg to stay somewhere where she was despised. She wasn't that desperate. She didn't know that Masha hated her because of how people liked to pamper her. She wouldn't give a damn about it anyway. She was sleeping soundly meanwhile.
Masha, on the other hand, knew that she had to make preparations. She wanted to make sure Myra disappeared from the world completely. She had to wait, though. Considering she almost exposed herself. She could only put her plan on hold first.

Myra didn't know how long she slept, but when she woke up, the headache had long disappeared, and the only thing that felt heavy was her left hand, thanks to the plaster. She went and took a shower before heading downstairs. This time, she was very careful with her movements. She wasn't sure she would be as lucky as the first time. She could even die in the process. As soon as she went downstairs, she was dragged to the dining room by her grandma. If she ate a lot, Myra was sure she would be as fat as a pig while living at her grandma's. They would make her eat good food at any given time. In her room, there were always bags of snacks, thanks to her grandma. Myra didn't complain. Instead, she felt warm in her heart. She could tell that her grandparents were trying to make her forget about her missing parents and the things that had transpired afterward. She was still young, so they only wanted to make her feel free of any troubles of the world. Their darling only needed to be happy.
Myra smiled happily and went ahead to eat. She really felt like she was at home. The genuine love offered by her grandparents was overwhelming, but she didn't feel repulsed at all.

Myra's life there could be said to be the happiest ever since her parents went missing in that flight. She had no worries because her grandma would always keep her company. As for her grandfather who liked plants and flowers, Myra would help him grow them and tend to them. Even those that were wilting or drying now looked energetic. When the old man went to show off to his wife, the wife berated him for making her darling tired and dirtying her hands. Hearing this, the old man couldn't help but feel a little guilty. He was so enthusiastic about flowers and plants that he didn't pay attention to her hands. One hand was injured while the other was soft and smooth. How could he bear to let her touch soil!
Myra didn't mind though. She was already used to that so it wasn't a big deal.

In another country, an old man had just received the news about Myra's situation. Even though he looked older, his aura was strong, and his back straight. He exuded an air of nobility around him. He sighed for the umpteenth time.
"I wonder how she's doing. " As he said this, a doting look flashed past his eyes. It had been ages since they last saw each other. But he knew she wouldn't want to see him.
