Chapter 19: Who was it?
Myra was in her room taking a shower when she heard her grandma remind her that it was time to have breakfast. She hummed in acknowledgment before she before quickly finished what she was doing. She knew the people at the table were waiting for her. She couldn't stand them up, so she hurried with what she was doing. Because of this, as she left her room, she was too preoccupied with arriving at the dining table on time that she failed to notice the things on the ground. By the time she realized what was happening, she had already tumbled down the stairs and was bleeding profusely. Her grandparents were so shocked.
"Myra, Myra!" People kept calling her. Her head buzzed, and then what she saw next was darkness. All she knew was that the pain she was feeling was insurmountable. She didn't even know how she managed not to shout. Watching all this farce, Masha smirked. Even though that wasn't the result she expected, at least she had managed to injure her. Next time, she would just have to put in more effort so she could finish her off in one blow. She didn't follow her grandparents to the hospital, saying that she had something to do and couldn't make it there. But she didn't forget to send some "good wishes" to Myra, who was being carrier on a stretcher and into the ambulance. She didn't even wait for the ambulance to leave before she headed upstairs. It was as if whatever was happening downstairs wasn't any of her concerns. Her indifferent attitude irked the maids present, but they couldn't do anything. Unless they wanted to get fired. It wasn't in their position to criticize her unless they wanted to lose their jobs. Still, they felt bad for Myra.
When Myra woke up, she found that her hand was being tightly grasped by another. She first looked around in confusion. When she saw the white ceilings and walls and smelled the disinfectant, she knew she was in the hospital. Just then, the events of that morning flashed in her mind. She had slid and tumbled down the stairs. At first, Myra didn't feel it, but after envisioning herself falling and hitting her head, she suddenly felt her head aching. Her forehead was wrapped in a gauze while her arm was in a plaster. Myra sighed. She knew she had broken her arm. She was really careless this time. She wondered if she'd have recovered, considering she only had a month of holiday.
"You're awake? How are you feeling?" As soon as her grandma saw that she had opened her eyes, a barrage of words of concern hit her.
"Grandma, I'm okay. It doesn't hurt at all." Myra said with a smile. She knew very well her grandma was going to blame herself for the incident. She didn't want that, though.
"Good, good." Her grandmother nodded in relief.
"Grandma, can we go home?" The atmosphere at the hospital was too depressing. She just wanted to go home. It was always lively with her grandparents bickering like little children. It was always entertaining to watch.
"Of course. Let me help you with the procedure, and then we'll leave. Okay?" As her grandma said this, she stood up and left. Within a few minutes, she was done with what she was doing and came to take her home. Looking at the thick plaster on her granddaughter's thin hand, she felt her heart ache.
"Let's go." Grandma said and held her right hand, which was uninjured. Myra was happy because she was being discharged .
When they reached home, Myra clamored that she was hungry, causing the maids watching the scene to giggle. She was so cute. Despite the fact that she was injured, she didn't give off a depressing vibe.
"I want to eat meat." Myra said. She knew she was a bit shorter for her age, so she wanted to increase her height.
"No, you're sick at the moment so you can't." Her grandma immediately objected. Her aim was to make her eat healthy food so she could grow tall. She didn't like her current height.
"Grandma, please..." as she said this, she looked at her grandma with her pure eyes. At that moment, she looked like she would cry the next moment. Her grandmother couldn't help but give in.
"Alright, just this once." She said.
Myra was happy. She kept on glancing on the side of the kitchen. She wondered when the food would be ready. She was really hungry. Although she was not a foodie, whenever she was at her grandma's place, she would always want to eat. She didn't know why.
After Myra went back to sleep because she felt a slight headache, her grandparents called all the maids over for questioning.
"Who was in charge of cleaning the second floor?" The old man asked sternly. How could he accept the fact that her precious granddaughter had been harmed because of the maids' negligence?
"I was the one." A maid came forward and said so. She had just gone to pick the tools she'd need for cleaning. She didn't understand why Myra would suddenly fall down the stairs due to this. She really had no idea how that happened.
"Did you also pour the soapy water on the floor?" The old man asked. The more he thought about it, the more he felt that the matter wasn't as simple as it appeared to be.
"No. I swear I did not." Soapy water was dangerous on slippery floors. The maid was aware of this. How and why would she let such a thing on the floor unless she had malicious intentions? She definitely wasn't the one who did it. She just didn't know who it was that wanted to set her up.
The old man looked at the maid's expression and knew that she wasn't lying. Then, what tampered with everything? What was their motive exactly? His granddaughter wasn't the kind to make enemies. He knew this, so who would want her dead under their roof?
