Chapter 18: To her grandparents' place

Chapter 18: To her grandparents' place

Three months passed in a flash, and there was still no news of her parents. Myra had always been asking Reese about the progress of the investigation, and she would always get the same heartbreaking answer. As time passed by, she decided to let go of the matter. She had no choice but to believe that her parents were really dead. When she visited her home, she was shocked to find that the maids and housekeeper were all still working diligently. They respected her parents so much so they couldn't bear to leave the house. Moreover, all the workers had been paid for the whole year, and since it was only mid year, they continued working. Some did so out of obligation while others did that because of the love and the respect they had for the vanished alpha and his wife. Myra was so touched that she didn't know what to say. Since there were people at home, at least it didn't look as lonely as she thought it would be. The only people missing to complete the cycle were her parents. Since there were people who treated her warmly, she only stayed at Reese's place for a month before moving out. Of course, Reese was reluctant, but what could he do? She went back to school and focused on her studies, but the ache and yearning in her chest never went away. Somehow, she was just a walking corpse. What was life without her parents? Nothing made sense, but for their sake, she kept pressing on. Since their remains weren't found, she held onto a tiny glimmer of hope that perhaps they weren't dead as everyone assumed. She hoped that she would get to see them soon.

On that very third month after her parents' disappearance, her uncle, who happened to be Lana's father; declared himself the new alpha. Almost all the pack members supported him, citing concerns of the pending projects since the disappearance of the alpha. Myra was so sad. There and then, she understood that her uncle didn't care about her father at all despite the fact that they were brothers. Instead, he seemed happy to know that they had disappeared. Myra looked at Lana's triumphant smirk and looked away. She felt so disgusted . She'd never seen such a scenario where family members weren't concerned at all about their fellow family member's plight. All their eyes were fixated on the power. Myra had tried opposing to.this , but since she was just a wolfless little girl, what could she do or say that would change their minds? Her maternal grandparents heard about the news and called her over to their place..
"Grandpa, grandma." Myra greeted as soon as she entered the house. The two.elders were watching news in the living room.
"Come come, let's take a good look at you." Her grandmother said while her grandfather nodded eagerly from the side. It had been five years since they saw each other.
"Why are you so thin? Do you even eat? I've decided you're not going to leave until the holidays are over. Or you might as well stay here for good." Myra's lips twitched as she looked at her concerned grandparents. She felt warm in her heart to know that there were other people who still genuinely cared for her despite knowing that she did not have a wolf. Anyway since she was on holiday, she decided to spend it with her grandparents and accompany them. They were just as sad as her because their daughter was missing. Myra knew she couldn't stay for good, though. She just didn't say it at that moment.

As they were happily conversing, a girl of Myra's age suddenly showed up.
"Myra, this is your cousin Masha, you remember her, right?" Her grandmother said.
Myra looked at Masha. Of course, she knew her quite well. She also remembered that they never got along well. Masha was her third uncle's only child. The reason as to why they never got along was because of her three cousins. They belonged to her first uncle. Her mother was the second born. The three cousins were all boys. Since Masha loved crying a lot, they preferred the quiet and obedient Myra, so they always pampered her to the born. Masha was jealous of this fact, so she transferred all her hatred to Myra. Fortunately, they never showed their animosity towards each other while with their grandparents.
"Hi Masha." Myra said with a smile. She looked overly pretty that even her grandma felt smitten. Her granddaughter was just so pretty. She wanted to hide her away from people.
"Hi." Masha nodded at her and went upstairs.
"Don't mind her. She's always been that way, okay?" Her grandma said after watching Masha go upstairs.
Myra nodded. She didn't care. As long as Masha didn't provoke her, then they would peacefully coexist.

When Masha went upstairs, she looked at herself in the mirror. Everything about her was plain. Both her family members had good looks, so why then was it that she was just so-so when put together with Myra? Myra's smile a few minutes ago was just too blinding. She had the urge to go and tear it off her face, but she held back because of her grandparents. She still had to destroy Myra. Especially that pretty face of hers. After that, she wanted to see what Myra would be smug about. As she thought of this, a mad look appeared in her eyes. It was so frightening. Fortunately, she was all alone. Otherwise, she would have scared people away.
Myra was busy listening to the bickering between her grandpa and grandma. She had no idea that a storm was brewing. She had no idea about the eminent danger that was approaching. Even though they never got along, Myra had never hated Masha. She always felt that those weren't things to hold grudges about. She never treated her as an enemy. That's just how pure hearted Myra was. Maybe that's why she was loved so much by her cousins and grandparents. Never in her lifetime would she have expected that the person whom she considered as a blood relative would plot such a bloody thing against her.
