Chapter 17: His name
Chapter 17: His name
The air seemed to be frozen for a while, and Myra figured she had touched a sour subject, but it was too late to retract her words. She could only stare awkwardly at him.
"I'm sorry." She quickly apologized.
"Promise me something. " The man said after a moment of contemplation.
"What is it?" Myra asked with a serious expression on her face. She would definitely promise him, especially if it was something that he didn't want people to know.
"That you'll keep it to yourself." The man said solemnly. He took that issue so seriously, even Myra, who was an observer, guessed as much.
"Okay. I promise. " Myra swore. If that's what he wanted, she'd definitely do as she'd promised.
"My name is Reese." The man said. He was observing her reaction. When he saw no change in expression, he secretly heaved a sigh of relief.
"Okay." Myra nodded her head. She had a feeling she had ever heard of such a name, but she had no real recollection. No matter how much she tried to think, she couldn't put a finger on where and when she'd heard such a name. At least she knew how to control her expression so the man didn't manage to capture anything from her face.
Reese, huh? She quite liked the name. She was sure he had his reasons when he asked her to keep it a secret. That meant he trusted her.
She didn't know what to feel about it. Considering the bond that existed between the two of them. Did that mean he was trying to accommodate her?
After having a meal in the evening, Reese took her to the guest room on the second floor. His room was also on the second floor. After hearing such devastating news, the only thing Myra wanted to do was sleep. She had some hope that if she slept and woke up, maybe the news that her parents had vanished would be considered fake. She really hoped it was just a nightmare and that she would wake up and find that it was all a dream. Sleep was the only escape she had at that moment. Reese also understood this. He hoped she would be okay. He didn't know how to cheer people up as he'd always been cold and indifferent about everything. Now that a little girl had popped out of nowhere as his mate, he figured he'd need to work on how to coax her. Otherwise, what if he scared her away? Even though he'd noted that she was also cold and nonchalant, he was sure that deep down her heart was soft and warm. He could just from the few interactions he had had with her. He helped tuck her in before he left the room. He still had business to attend to.
Three hours later, after Reese was done with what he was doing, he made his way to where Myra was sleeping to check on her. Sure enough, as he looked at her figure, she had kicked the blanket away. His lips twitched before he walked over and covered her with the blanket again. Then, he stood there and watched as she slept. She would have looked relaxed while sleeping, but her furrowed brows betrayed her. Reese was sure it had something to do with her parents' disappearance. He reached out and smoothed out her furrowed brows, which instantly relaxed. He felt that she looked more beautiful that way. His mate looked like a little girl. Even though she looked small and delicate, it did not hide her overly beautiful face that outlined her charm. Even him, someone who was indifferent to women, couldn't help but feel drawn. He had felt drawn to her since the first day her saw her at that banquet. Her figure never for once escaped his thoughts. There and then, he knew he had fallen for her. He had tried to ignore the bond and the feelings, but it seemed like fate was adamant in making the two of them get together. The girl was very beautiful and was tempting. She also had this air of mystery around her. Reese wanted to slowly learn about her as they progressed. Since he had fallen for her, then she could only be his.
"Don't go." Myra suddenly spoke. Reese, who had turned and was about to leave, stood in place. He thought he was hallucinating. Wasn't she asleep earlier?
Truth was, Myra had woken up when he smoothed her furrows earlier. She was very sensitive, so she wanted to see what he would do. She listened as he stood and observed her from the side without doing anything. This caught her off guard. To her, men were animals, and he was no exception. However, when she saw how reserved he was, she suddenly felt bad.
"What is it? Are you okay?" As he asked this, he walked over to take a look.
"I'm okay. I just want you to keep me company." Myra said with a frown. She didn't understand matters of the heart as much, but she just knew she had a sudden urge to talk and sit with him in the same space.
"Okay." Reese didn't mind. He looked around and wanted to sit on the couch, but Myra patted the bed and asked him to sit over.
"Myra?" After sitting in the room for a while in silence, Reese suddenly called out.
"Mm?"
"After all this is over, could you promise that you'll fulfill a request of mine?" Reese was nervous as he asked this.
Myra looked up at his tense face and couldn't bring herself to reject him.
"Okay." She nodded. She just didn't know what that request would be.
