Chapter 181 Undercurrents Surging
Chapter 181 Undercurrents Surging
Griffin's POV
The next day.
Looking at Aviah and the two kids beside me, I smiled gently. All the hardships from the first half of my life seemed to find redemption in this moment.
Once I avenged Douglas, I could finally leave the past behind completely.
My phone rang. I got up quietly and walked to the balcony.
"How's it going? Are there still moles in the company?"
Bringing all the company employees on this vacation served two purposes. First, naturally, to thank those who chose to stay and help me during tough times.
I'm not a heartless person. I'll never forget the help they provided when I was in trouble.
That's why I gave them raises, bonuses, and brought them out to have fun. This was my way of paying them back.
I wanted to show everyone that those who help me can get ten times, a hundred times the return.
Second, and this was the most important point.
I wanted to dig out the moles in the company!
When I took back the company years ago, there were many people I knew were Joseph's people, but I had to use them anyway. Without them, the company couldn't function.
Although over the years I'd been using various methods to drive them away and replace important positions with my own people, they're still human beings who communicate with each other. The people they trained could naturally also be bought by Joseph.
I couldn't completely cut them off.
I could only isolate them while replacing them with my subordinates, and at the same time develop new employees.
This time, I wanted to dig out as many moles as possible.
Especially after what happened two days ago when Aviah was almost raped by Tony right in front of me.
I made arrangements right then, having Sebastian observe the company employees' movements these past two days to see who was acting suspicious.
After all, we were here to have fun. Anyone who wasn't enjoying themselves and kept sneaking around definitely had a problem.
Sure enough, Sebastian quickly made a discovery.
"We've currently identified eleven suspects," Sebastian's voice was very low. "And I've already turned one of them. When the time comes, there might be an unexpected effect."
I nodded with satisfaction. If Joseph could turn my employees, I could do the same. I lacked everything except money.
"Keep watching. When I take the kids out today, I have a feeling Tony might take desperate measures. Make sure you're ready on your end."
"Got it." Sebastian paused. "You have Hazel protecting Aviah, Felix protecting the two kids, and leave me alone to do this troublesome and thankless job, not letting me relax and rest properly. When this is over, I'm definitely getting back at you!"
I grinned and hung up, then turned to see Aviah getting up. She looked at me sleepily.
"Making phone calls this early?" She yawned.
I walked over and ruffled her hair. "Company business. Where do you want to go today?"
"Let's go out on the water and ride jet skis, how about that?" Her eyes lit up. "Ethan's been wanting to try it. I'll go take a shower first, you go wake up the kids."
I smiled. Aviah's eyes sparkled when she mentioned the two children.
At ten in the morning, the four of us plus Edna came to the beach.
Ethan was having a blast. Diane was a bit scared at first, but later overcame her fear and started having fun too.
With an instructor watching nearby, plus me being there, there was nothing to worry about.
Aviah looked at the two children, then at Edna beside her, and suddenly said to me somewhat shyly, "I'm going diving. Do you know how?"
I raised an eyebrow, looking at her. "Are you inviting me to join you?"
Aviah rolled her eyes at me. "I'm just worried you'd be bored. If you don't want to go, forget it."
I quickly grabbed her hand. "Of course I want to! I'm a diving expert."
With that, we went to put on diving equipment. I sent messages to Hazel and Felix, who were hidden nearby, telling them to stay alert.
Ethan's POV
"Ethan, I need to use the bathroom. Will you come with me?"
We had just stopped to rest when Diane pulled my hand and acted cute.
I nodded. "Okay, I need to go too anyway."
The two of us walked toward the bathroom. Diane looked around. "Where are Mommy and Daddy?"
I had just seen them go diving, so I answered, "They went diving, don't worry."
Edna was following behind us. When we got to the bathroom, we went into the men's and women's restrooms separately.
I finished quickly and came out to wait for Diane.
After another two minutes, Edna frowned. "Why isn't Diane out yet?"
My heart tightened. I strode toward the women's restroom and pushed the door open. It was empty.
"Diane!" My voice was panicked.
I rushed around to the side of the bathroom and saw Diane standing there, looking a bit dazed.
I hurried over and looked her up and down to see if she was hurt. "Are you okay?"
Diane shook her head. "Ethan, I'm fine. Just now a man took me out through the window, and then another man appeared and chased after him."
Hearing Diane say this, I finally relaxed. It must have been someone Griffin arranged to protect us.
"Don't tell Mom later, don't make her worry."
Diane nodded. "Okay, I know, Ethan."
I then explained to Edna, and we went back to keep playing.
It wasn't that I was careless, but this was the only way to help Diane forget about these things.
Griffin's POV
Aviah and I decompressed and surfaced, lying on beach chairs to rest. I looked at the messages on my phone and smiled.
On my phone were messages from Sebastian and Felix.
Sebastian: [Five of the eleven people made a move. I could have caught them, but one of those five is the mole I turned, so I let them escape. Now we just wait for his message.]
Felix: [Mr. Ravenscroft, Tony got away, along with five company employees. Sebastian let them escape on purpose. I suspect he has some plan he hasn't told me about.]
I smiled. Even so, Felix didn't believe Sebastian would betray me. That's what real partners are like.
Now the bait was cast. Next, we just had to wait for the fish to bite.
"What are you grinning at your phone for? Are you cheating on me?"
Aviah's voice sounded in my ear, startling me. I turned to see her unfriendly expression. "Nothing, my subordinate just tallied up the expenses for this trip."
"How much?"
Seeing her attention diverted, I quickly put my phone in my pocket. It was better not to let her know about these things.
I was starting to understand why Alexander didn't let Aviah handle anything. Because she was his daughter, he hoped to protect Aviah completely and let her be happy.
I felt the same way now.
I suddenly smiled strangely. Don't tell me I want to be her father?
"Not much, just under a million dollars."
