Chapter 19
"Your cousin Samantha and I talked. They said you stayed with them for a few days while Camilla was in the hospital. Why did you do that? How did you manage to leave your wife in the hospital?" his father asked him.
"You really do everything on purpose," his father added.
"Dad, let me explain. It's one of my clients who live near Samantha. We made an appointment," he explained.
"That's not what Samantha told me. You even asked her to pretend to be your girlfriend," his father insisted and his face was full of anger.
Ransom looked at me and I didn't know how to react because I didn't think I would hear that. The woman I talked to on the other line crossed my mind.
"Is that his cousin?" I asked myself.
I can't explain how I felt at that time. I wanted to be angry because he lied to me. But I was happy that Ransom probably didn't have another woman. It wasn't true that he was going home with another woman. I felt relieved even though I saw I made his father angry.
I forgot about the lying he did. My happiness still overcame me at that time.
"Ahm, Dad don't be angry with Ransom because I was the one who started our fight at that time. You know the behavior of pregnant women," I lied.
"Well, even so. He still understood you because that is not a valid reason to leave you, especially since you just gave birth. He should be responsible enough because he already has a family," his father responded seriously.
I didn't know what to answer and I saw Ransom suddenly stand up from his seat. His father was angry at what he did.
"Are you that rude now?" his father asked angrily.
I heard Ransom take a deep breath and sat back in his seat.
"I'm really sorry, Dad. I know I made a mistake but I didn't really mean it. As Camilla said, she really pushed me away. She doesn't want to see me because she hates to see my face," he lied.
"I won't wonder why baby Yumi really inherited yours from you," her mother said with a smile.
I saw that his father's face calmed down and smiled sparingly. I also smiled at what his mother said and I just followed it to divert his father's attention.I simply glanced at Ransom's face which was obviously uncomfortable.
A few moments later we finished eating and he left first. I helped Beth get away but Ransom's father stopped me.
"Camilla, let them do their work," daddy said.
"It's okay, Dad. I want to help, Beth," I replied.
"Come here, Camilla. I have something for you," his father said with a smile.
I saw his mother smile and I smiled sweetly at them.
"What is that, Dad?" I asked.
"You will know. Come here now" he answered with a smile.
I immediately went with him outside the mansion. I didn't know what he was going to give me. But I was excited to know what it was.
But I didn't expect that he would give me a box and an expensive shoe inside it.
"Wow," I uttered.
"It's for you," Daddy said to me with a smile.
"I can't accept this, Dad. I don't deserve to receive such an expensive thing," I refused.
"You deserve it, Camilla," he said with a smile.
I smiled at what he said to me. I didn't think I was that important to my husband's family. I even had a reason to stay with him despite our misunderstanding.
"Thank you so much, Dad," I smiled in gratitude.
"You're always welcome, Camilla," he replied with a smile.
I was very satisfied with what daddy gave me. I saw mommy's sweet smile while hugging me.
"Just take good care of our granddaughter," he said with a smile.
"Yes, mom. My son is very dear to me, so even if I lack sleep, it's okay as long as I take care of him," I answered.
"You can't go without sleep. That's not possible because you'll get sick," Daddy countered.
I can feel his concern for me at that time. I can't ask God for anything more than for Ransom and I to be fine. After a while, I went up the stairs to my room.
When I opened the door, Beth appeared in front of me while she was dancing with Yumi.
I just smiled at what I saw. If you look at it, you can really get married to Beth. I just laughed in my mind.
I approached her and told her to rest because she will be going to school tomorrow. She goes to school early and when she gets home she will go back to work so I admire her hard work.
When Beth got out, I sat next to Baby Yumi's crib while watching her sleep.
I saw Ransom come out of the bathroom. I swallowed saliva when I saw his topless body. But I immediately averted my gaze from him. I didn't want him to think that I lusted after him. But
I can't stop myself from talking to him. I want to know why he was able to lie to his parents.
"Why did you lie to your father as well as to me?" I asked him.
"Don't get me started, Camilla!" he answered firmly.
"I just wanted to know," I insisted.
"Are you blind or just plain stupid? Can't you really see that I don't want to see your face?!" he asked me annoyed.
"Why don't we fix it? Why don't you just stay with me for the sake of our daughter," I calmly told him.
"Just your daughter not mine!" he countered.
It really hurts me so much every time he rejects Yumi as his daughter. I wanted to slap him but I don’t want to make this fight get worse.
"Are you really that tough? Don't you have a heart?" I asked emotionally.
"Please stop this nonsense! I'm tired, so can you stop, Camilla?!" he said firmly.
"How can I stop if you talk like that?" I said annoyed.
"Yumi is your daughter, so please show some respect," I added.
"Okay fine. Can I sleep now?!" he asked sarcastically.
I just held my breath and tried to calm myself down. I don't want to hit this man anymore because the trouble will only get worse.
I lay down on my sofa and covered myself with a blanket. I didn't want to argue with him anymore because I might have a heart attack. I just closed my eyes and I didn't realize that I fell asleep.
The next day I woke up early and I was surprised to see that my blanket was still in the same order. Every time I woke up, my blanket was already on the floor because I would move if I slept. But I can't remember if I used a blanket that was placed in my Cabinet.
I just scratched my head because I guess I've become forgetful. I don't want to assume that Ransom put the blanket on top of me. That's unlikely to happen.
I immediately got up and moved my bed. I glanced at Ransom's bed but I think he left early. He woke up ahead of me now.I took baby Yumi from the Crib and headed to the Veranda to let her see the sun.
"Good morning, baby," I greeted with a smile.
"It's another day with you, my love" I added with a smile.
I kissed her on the forehead and every time I looked at her face I could really see Ransom in her.
Suddenly my phone rang and I saw Cheska calling. I was very happy because I missed my best friend so much.
"Hi bess, how are you?" she asked me.
"I'm fine, Bess. You?" I asked back to her.
"I’m still beautiful and sexy, hehe" he answered with a smile.
"It's you, Bess. You still haven't really changed," I said to her with a smile.
"Of course. Anyway, maybe I can visit later there. I want to eat the mango float you made. I miss that, hehe" she said.
I was very happy to hear that he would be visiting here.
After I hung up, I immediately went down the stairs to the kitchen to ask Beth.
"Beth, do we have any ingredients for the mango float?" I asked Beth.
"Yes, Ma'am. It's in the fridge," Beth replied with a smile.
"That's good. I'm going to make a mango float for my best friend" I said with a smile.
"Ah, is she going to visit here?" she asked.
"Yes, Beth. Maybe you can watch baby Yumi first," I begged.
"Sure, ma'am. I don't have any more work to do," she answered.
After a while, I started making mango floats. I miss making it especially because it is our favorite food.
A few moments later Cheska came and I was surprised because I thought she would come here later.I immediately met him and kissed him.She hugged me tightly and I felt that she really missed me.
"I miss you, Bess," she said, smiling.
"I missed you too. I thought you would come here later. I didn't even manage to fix myself," I replied.
"That's okay, you're still beautiful. I think you're my best friend" she smiled at me.
I made her sit on the sofa and I went to the kitchen to get the mango float I cooked. I put it on the small table and we started talking.
"How are you and your husband?" she asked me.
"We're fine," I answered with a smile.
But I know my best friend knows me so she knows I'll just lie.
"I know you're lying, Bess," she insisted.
"It's still like that because we always argue. He does things that we fight about. I was very hurt because you know how much I guarded my virginity, right?" I was emotional at that time.
"I know," she answered.
"Then I just gave it to the man who can't even respect me. To be honest, it's tiring and it hurts so much that he doesn't even claim Yumi as his daughter." I said emotionally.
Cheska hugged me and my heart was really heavy at that time. Somehow I felt better at that time.
But we were both surprised when I heard footsteps on the stairs and I was very surprised to see Ransom. Did he hear what I said?
