chapter 69

ELI.

I didn't like my role as the pack's sniper. Aside from it got me separated from Ariella, having a sniper seemed pretty useless now since the fog just got thicker. It almost felt like there was a huge fire somewhere near us causing this thick smoke. I couldn't see anything other than shadows and silhouettes of the people around me.

I wanted to fight alongside Ariella, but she pushed me away from David and saved my life. And even though I feel bad that it was Ariella who was protecting me rather than the other way around, David's presence actually scared the hell out of me. Plus, Ariella made a really good point. David will not kill her because he wants her for himself. It was the people around Ariella that were in danger from David.

So I reluctantly followed our original plan. I think I shot four vampires already. I heard them explode into pieces and it gave me satisfaction. I heard some of them looking for me, but the fog had hidden me quite well from them too. It was a good thing that I was at least good at sniping. Back in my younger days, Adam and I would train with different weapons as preparation for our future roles in our pack. And some of those weapons are guns and crossbows, hence my skills.

"Noooo!" I got up from where I was sitting because I just heard my Uncle yell loudly. Something bad must have happened, so I went to the fog and searched for my people. I saw some fights happening just a few steps away from me, so I helped by shooting at the vampires. Then I finally found my Uncle. He was kneeling next to a naked human body lying on the ground. That meant that whoever it was, they had transformed back from their wolf form.

But my heart almost stopped beating when I got nearer and saw who the human was. I dropped my crossbow and ran quickly to my father as fast as I could. "NO!" I didn't know what to feel. All I knew was that I couldn't believe what I was seeing right now. Father was dead, his neck broken and blood covered his body.

Uncle Ross, who was also grieving my father, saw me and he cried even harder. Hearing my uncle cry made it more painful. I was lost for words. "Who did this?" I asked my uncle coldly.

"It was David," my uncle answered. "I saw him use his powers on your father. I was late... I couldn't save him...."

"Where is he? Did you see where he went?" I asked loudly. "I will kill him. I WILL KILL HIM!"

"Eli... Don't go after him! You're still injured---"

"I DON'T CARE! I WILL KILL DAVID!" I was yelling my lungs out. My eyes and ears were fiery hot with anger as my heart kept banging inside my chest. My wolf was in a frenzied rage too. All I wanted to do right now was to avenge my father. I couldn't believe that he just died like that. My poor father... And Mother must have felt that her mate had died and she must be heartbroken right now... I have to do something.

I looked around for David, but I didn't see him. I ran into a middle-aged man instead, and based on his appearance, he must be David's father. Evil swooped over me and took over my mind. I went for the man instead and attacked him. But David's father was surprisingly agile. He was able to dodge my punch and then kicked me straight to my stomach.

"Oh boy... Do you think that I am weak? I have been alive for almost three hundred years! You can't hit me just like that!"

He went for another kick. This man seemed to have mastered some form of martial arts, which to me was bad news. His kicks were so sharp and precise that it was as if I was being hit by a sharp pole when he kicked me. Luckily for me, the pain I felt from his kicks couldn't even register in my brain right now because I was already mentally numb. I just acted based on instinct, so when I tried catching his foot, David's father was caught off guard.

I smirked when I saw the shock in his face because I was holding his leg so tight that he couldn't get away from my grip. It was time to mock him. "I heard that you could read minds, but you didn't read what I was about to do?"

"You bastard!"

He was about to kick me with his other leg using a martial arts technique, but I was quicker. I slammed him to the ground and then took one of my arrows for my crossbow and pierced him with it on his stomach. And since it had explosives in it, I had to back away as soon as I could because it would explode after three seconds. The vampire knew it too since he read my mind so his eyes bulged in fear of what was coming. But it was too late for him. He tried to run away but he just exploded right in front of me.

"You killed my father? I killed yours," I said to myself. But I still wasn't satisfied with that. I still wanted to kill David myself, so I resumed my search for him inside the fog. In my search, I saw Emma fighting another female vampire. I helped her a bit and found out that the vampire was David's mother. I killed her too by breaking her neck and then looked for David again.

I then saw Jonathan run to me, looking worried. "Eli, have you seen Ariella? I was looking for her, but I couldn't find her... And David is missing too. Please help me find them!"

When I heard that, something snapped inside of me. Just like a switch, my vengeful mode got turned off by just hearing that Ariella was nowhere to be seen. I suddenly panicked, knowing that David could be after her right now. I looked for them frantically until I reached the path to the park. I saw a boy crying and sitting there on one of the wooden benches.

He was familiar to me. He was that vampire boy that sent me to that cavern using his ability. I walked to him and asked him where his brother was, but he wouldn't stop crying and that put me off. "Hey kid, can you please answer me first?" I asked impatiently. "Do you know where David is?"

The boy looked at me with annoyance. "Don't talk to me! You are a werewolf! My brother is mad at me because of you!"

Of course, David was mad at the boy. He must have been punished by his family for 'helping' me back then. To be honest, I feel bad for this kid. He shouldn't even be here. "Hey, Lawrence. That's your name, right?"

The boy nodded. "You remembered my name."

"Of course," I said and then held his hands to comfort him. "I just want to ask you if you knew where David went. And Ariella too..."

"I can't," he replied sadly. "They'll punish me again if I send you there too."

"Too? So you did use your ability on them? David and Ariella?" He politely nodded to my question. I was alarmed as well because now I know that David was alone again with Ariella. He tricked us, thinking that he would fight all out here but he took Ariella with him using this kid's powers. "Where did you send them, Lawrence? Back to your old mansion?"

Lawrence shook his head. "No. I sent them to the North."
