Chapter 29 - Flying Message

Chapter 29 - Flying Message
Raine

It was one in the afternoon and instead of Raine’s normal routine of waking up later in the afternoon she was, unfortunately, up and awake and crawling under her bed with a flashlight she borrowed from Joe. Her ass and legs were hanging out as her hands groped around the carpet, searching for something that clearly wasn’t there.

She let out a frustrated groan and shimmied back out from underneath the bed, careful to not bang her head on the frame as she rose to sit with her legs crossed. She glanced over at her nightstand, the last place she had seen her phone before it had mysteriously disappeared.

She had turned her room upside down looking for it, literally. There were clothes all over the floor after she had unceremoniously ripped them from her closet and chest of drawers; which were also hanging of the hinges after nearly being ripped out. Her bed sheets had been balled up together and thrown in the corner of the room from sheer frustration and hundreds of her miscellaneous crap was spread over her bed after being chucked from her bedside drawer.

But no matter how much she searched and wrecked her room, to the point where it looked like a mini hurricane had passed through, she couldn’t find her damn phone. It was just gone! It had disappeared without a trace. And no matter how many places she looked and how many strange scenarios she came up with to explain why it would be in one of the weirder locations, she could not find the son of a bitch!

She groaned again, even louder this time, and fell back dramatically with her hands spread out like a spread eagle. Luckily she didn’t hit the floor, as there were hundreds of clothes to cushion her fall. She closed her eyes and prayed to whichever god or goddess was currently watching her to give her some sort of clue to where are phone could possibly be.

“Wow!” A very familiar voice appeared from the doorway and Raine had to physically stop herself from groaning yet again. “Did a tornado pass through here?”

She opened her eyes and gave a pointed look at Sylvia; who was looking around at the mess.

“Seriously, if you wanted to destroy this room you should have just used wrecking ball.” Sylvia laughed.

“Haha, very funny!” Raine stuck her tongue out at her and then proceeded to lift herself off the ground. “I’m looking for my phone! So, if you’d like to stop acting like an asshole and help me it would be very much appreciated.”

There were many ways Raine thought Sylvia would answer her request for assistance and these ranged from her pretending to have not heard Raine and simply walking out of the room without a second glance to her scoffing at the very idea of her doing something like looking around her already wrecked room and telling Raine to just buy a new phone.

She was not, however, expecting to turn around and see Sylvia smiling at her wickedly with an odd sparkle in her eye. It was so unexpected that Raine actually took an unconscious step away from the Were-Cat.

“Oh, I was so hoping you’d ask me about your phone.” She purred, her eyes never leaving Raine’s.

“You’re gonna help?” Raine gulped, anxiously watching her friend.

“I won’t have to! I know where it is.” Sylvia laughed.

“So, where is it?” She asked nervously.

“First, I need to tell you the story of how it ended up where it is.” Sylvia said, as she moved across the room to Raine’s window.

“Okay.” Raine replied, eyeing the cat carefully.

“It was on Saturday evening, well technically very early Sunday morning.” Sylvia’s eyes lit up with excitement as she began her little tale. “We had just arrived back and I did my absolute best to care for you while you were in the state you were in.” Sylvia fluttered her eyelashes in an attempt to look as innocent as she possibly could.

Raine grimaced, not just at Sylvia’s failed attempt at innocence but at the very idea of the state she had been in after being spiked. She couldn’t remember a thing and she had done her best to avoid the topic after learning she had kissed a random customer.

“Anyway, you suddenly grabbed a hold of your phone and were trying to tell me something. You weren’t making much sense at that point, your words were slurring and you didn’t seem to have much control over your own saliva.” Raine recoiled at this new information. “You kept pointing at the screen but you wouldn’t let me see and then you said the one sentence I actually understood.” Sylvia grinned.

“Which was?” Raine asked cautiously, a feeling of dread slowly washing through her.

“You screamed, ‘I have to get this message sent fast!’ And then…” Sylvia purposefully paused with her wickedly wide grin, while the dread Raine was feeling intensified.

“You threw it out the window!” Sylvia gestured to the open window, looking as though she was barely keeping herself from bursting out laughing.

“What!?” Raine screeched, running to the window and half hanging out it to confirm what Sylvia had just told her.

Sure enough, right outside her window at the base of the large tree were the unmistakable remains of Raine’s phone. She could see what had been the screen, reflecting the sunlight up at her. All the little pieces spread out in the short grass. It broke her heart!

“My phone!” Raine choked, staring down at her poor baby.

“Yeah.” Sylvia joined her looking outside and patted her friend on the back.

“Why?” Raine whimpered.

“If I were to guess…I’d say drugged Raine didn’t quite get how sending a message works. I think she thought that if she threw the phone that it would fly to whomever she was trying to message.” Sylvia answered and Raine could hear the glee in her voice at being the one to tell her all of this.

Raine sighed deeply, pinching the bridge of her nose to stop from screaming. Now she had an even stronger urge to go to Sigi and request he let her know where he was keeping the bastard who had drugged her so she could avenge her poor phone.

“Did you at least find out who I was trying to message?” She asked, trying to move on to the more important piece of information from Sylvia’s story.

“Nope, you didn’t say who it was and once you’d thrown your phone out the window, you dropped onto the bed and were out like a light.” Sylvia shrugged.

This time Raine didn’t bother holding it in when she groaned and flumped dramatically over her windowsill.

“Why didn’t you tell me when I woke up? I wouldn’t have destroyed my room if I’d known earlier.” Raine whined.

“Where’s the fun in that?” Sylvia snorted, walking away from the window. “Besides now we get to go shopping for a new phone for you and you’re little She-Wolf friend. Let’s go now!” She gushed excitedly.

Raine sighed, before getting up from the window and dusting herself off a little. She turned to look at Sylvia, who looked absolutely gleeful at the prospect of going shopping. Another of her unexpected traits was that Sylvia loved to shop and buy things and help other people buy things, but only if she was spending someone else’s money. God forbid you should suggest she spend her own money, she’d bite your head clean off. She was like a dragon and it’s treasure when it came to her own money.

“We can’t, we’ll need to go another day.” Raine stated and instantly Sylvia pouted and started to give her the poor kitten eyes. “Tonight’s the full moon and I’ve gotta be leaving for the club before she starts whispering in my ears.” Raine explained.

The kitten eyes instantly vanished and Sylvia’s face contorted into one of absolute fear. She unconsciously rubbed her neck frightfully but Raine was used to her doing that anytime she mentioned the full moon and ‘her.’ It was the only time during their friendship that Sylvia ever showed any fear.

Raine waited for her to calm down and didn’t attempt to engage her until she had managed to. Eventually she shook herself from her fear and attempted conversation again.

“You’re right! We should go another day, not today!” She mumbled, uncomfortably.

“Good plan!” Raine nodded. “I guess I should start leaving for the club, now that I know where my phone is.”

“Good idea, the sooner it’s over with the sooner you can be normal again.” Sylvia agreed enthusiastically.

“I guess; I just hate that damn rope they need to tie me down with.” Raine sighed as they made to leave her room.

“Why?” Sylvia enquired.

“I don’t know; when it touches my skin I feel so dirty and evil like it knows the things I’ve done and judges me.” She shivered.

“Well, it is made from the hair of one of the purist creatures known to the supernatural community; I don’t think you’d be able to find anyone who’d feel any differently than you do when it touches you.” Sylvia shrugged. “Plus, it’s the only thing that holds ‘her’ back!” This time it was Sylvia’s time to shiver uncomfortably.

“I know and you’re right, once it’s over it’s over and then I’m free until the next full-moon.” Raine said, more to herself as they left the flat.

She wasn’t looking forward to tonight, she never did. But it wasn’t like she would be conscious or aware of what was going on, though her lack of awareness during this time was one of the things she feared the most. Because she was the one who would awaken to the consequences of whatever ‘she’ did…
