Chapter 28 The New Barrier

Chapter 28 The New Barrier
Luna POV

It was a way of being in the present in all places. I could see the past. I could see the future. I could visualize every decision that people have and every reason it is relevant. Time wasn't a line anymore. It was a website. And I was that centre that held it together.

But I might sense what was going on the other side of the wall. I was even able to sense the world mending. I was able to sense human beings and werewolves and immortals collaborating to create what had gone away. I still felt the influence of Sera, although she was dead. The liberated animals were reverencing her memory by making the connectivity of all the species.

Elena was helping them. She was teaching with her old wisdom, cooperation and understanding. She was finally turning out to be the healer she had always desired to become.

Thomas was in collaboration with the everlasting. The ones who had attempted to make the world under their control. When I made the barrier, those immortals had been wiped out. But the younger immortals. The ones who thought that Thomas was right. That there was a better way. They were together learning about the Void. Attempting to know what it was. Attempting to reason out whether there was a solution to eventually curing it rather than merely managing it.

Ethan was trying to reconstruct Pine Ridge. He was inventing something novel. A location, in which the memory of what had happened would be so, but also a place, in which one could construct the future. My mother was there with him. They were now the historians of the peace movement. It was better to write it down so that nobody would ever forget.

Kieran was doing a job of handling excess refugees. Annually the council voted that Pine Ridge would become a sanctuary city again. A home where any creature found the desire to live in peace would go and be safe. They were just beginning and it would require decades to finish.

I tried to reach out to them. I tried to send them messages. I do not know whether they were able to hear me but I felt their reactions. I sensed them knowing that I was not gone. Still watching. But still taking care of what they were doing.

Days passed. Or maybe it was years. I had a different time working. I was able to experience separate moments and centuries at the same time. The barrier needed attention all the time. The Void was always pushing. In constant search of weak places. But it was not breaking through.

And after this something arose.

Something was pressing against the obstacle on the inner side. A familiar presence. A person who should not be able to get in contact with me. A person that was to have been erased.

Sera.

I realized what had happened. She did not simply break one barrier when Sera broke the Heart of Time. She broke a variety of realities. She found ways to other timelines. There were other versions of events in which things were different. And now she was touching through all those versions of me.

and Sera came to a viewpoint on the barrier, as she had done when she made a sacrifice of herself. But different. Changed. Similar to the way she was in numerous realities at once.

"I found you," Sera said. I had to pass through a thousand other worlds before I could get you, but I did.

"How?" I asked. "How did you survive?"

"I didn't," Sera said. "In my timeline, I'm still dead. In the majority of time lines, I die. But I went across so many realities that I began to live in all of them simultaneously. And, in one of those time runs, I was powerful enough to get to you.

"Why?" I asked.

At that you require assistance, said Sera. The wall will break down one day. The Void is too strong. It will continue pushing and pushing till you cannot retain it further. But you need not keep it to yourself.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

Sera crossed the barrier. Now she was present physically. Part of my world. Halfway between being and being nothing.

I can ease you of your burden, Sera said. I can be assimilated with the barrier as well. With you we can bear it a little longer. Collectively, we can make it more powerful.

But you will be stuck about here, I said. You will be among the barricades all through eternity.

"I know," Sera said. And I am choosing to do it nonetheless. That was what you taught me. This is what was taught to me through the peace movement. The fact that there are times whereby you must sacrifice in order to have a bigger thing than yourself. It is that at times you must make a difficult decision because it is the right one.

I wanted to tell her no. I needed to explain to her to come back to the other side. I could feel the Void pushing. The barrier was cracking. I knew she was right. I was not able to keep it indefinitely.

Sera combined with me and the barrier. Suddenly, I wasn't alone. I had a partner. I had an example of what it feels like to be scrapped and refurbished and reincarnated as a new one.

"We're not dying," Sera said. "We're just changing. We're becoming guardians.

Easily the barrier was made stable with the help of Sera. It became stronger. More flexible. It was able to cope with the pushing of the Void. And I realized something. This was not a one time fix. This was the new reality. This would be the state of the world in the future. There would never be guardians who would be missing. There should be people who will compromise their personal lives so that others benefit.

But that didn't have to be sad. That didn't have to be lonely. Since there were individuals on the other side who remembered. People had to think that there were people who respected that sacrifice. Such as long as there was love on the other side. The guardians would not be very lonely then.

And I could feel that love. I was able to feel it on a daily basis. Since Ethan crossed over the barrier in attempting to connect with me. Even in the prayers of Elena to me and to thank me. My mother is the one who records my story in order to make the future generation to know. Among the humans and the werewolves and the liberated creatures and immortals banding together in creating a world in which it might be worth me to drop out.
