Chapter 25

Chapter 25
|| ZION's POV ||

I growled, storming at the man who was on his knees. He looked like an archery who just wanted to show his talent off. Before I could do something, the man had done something surprising. In front of my eyes, he sucked the poison from his ring, accepting death in front of everyone.

It was too late when we stopped them. The man had already rolled down to death, his numb body lying down with a thud. Darius let out a curse before lifting up the poison from the man's grip. He muttered angrily,
" HE WAS FUCKING PREPARED!"
The courtyard was bustling with activity as I peered down from the castle walls, my gaze fixating on the archery man below. My eyes narrowed as they landed on the special bow he wielded – a bow that belonged unmistakably to Lucius's knight. Fury surged through me like a torrential storm, and my fists clenched at my sides. How could Lucius's knight dare to parade around with a stolen family heirloom?

"Lucius!" I bellowed, my voice cutting through the ambient noise. Lucius turned toward me, a flicker of surprise in his eyes.

"What's going on?" he asked, feigning innocence, but I saw through the façade.

I pointed accusingly at the archery man's weapon. "That bow is yours, isn't it? Explain why your knight has it."

Lucius's expression hardened, a tense silence settling between us. "Zion, we can discuss this later, in private."

"No, Lucius," I shot back, refusing to let him evade the confrontation. "This needs to be addressed now. That bow has been in my family for generations."

Monica, standing nearby, observed the exchange with a furrowed brow. The tension in the air was palpable, and her gaze shifted between Lucius and me. Despite her curiosity, she remained silent, sensing the gravity of the situation.

Lucius sighed, running a hand through his hair. "Zion, it's not as simple as it seems. There are reasons—"

"Reasons?" I scoffed, my frustration reaching a boiling point. "I don't care about your reasons. That bow is stolen, and you need to answer for it."

Our argument echoed through the courtyard, drawing the attention of onlookers. The air crackled with tension as bystanders exchanged whispers, eyes darting between Lucius, the archery man, and me. Monica's gaze met mine, a mix of concern and caution in her eyes.

I turned away from Lucius, addressing Monica with an emotion-laden glance. "Monica, I can't let this slide. Our family's honor is at stake."

Her eyes conveyed understanding, and she nodded in silent support. As I left the castle, the weight of unresolved emotions hung heavy in the air. The stone walls seemed to close in around me, mirroring the suffocating conflict within.

Outside the castle gates, I continued my stride with purpose, the cool breeze offering little solace to the fire raging within. Hours later, on the outskirts of the forest, Monica caught up with me. She spoke softly, "Zion, I know you're upset, but perhaps there's more to Lucius's side of the story."

I shook my head, frustration etched on my face. "Monica, a stolen heirloom is a stolen heirloom. There's no excuse. We must confront this."

Monica's eyes softened, and she placed a gentle hand on my shoulder. "I'm with you, Zion, but let's approach this cautiously. Accusations won't solve anything; we need the full truth."

Nodding in agreement, I took a deep breath, preparing for the challenges ahead. The forest loomed dark and mysterious, reflecting the uncertainty of our path. With Monica by my side, we ventured into the unknown, determined to uncover the truth behind the stolen bow and restore honor to my family name.

Days passed, and our quest led us deeper into the forest. The silence between Monica and me mirrored the tension within the castle. Despite my resolve, doubts gnawed at me. What if there was more to Lucius's story than I knew? The unanswered questions hung in the air, a constant reminder of the rift between us.

As we delved further into the heart of the forest, the trees closed in around us, casting shadows that seemed to dance with secrets. Monica remained steadfast, her presence a source of comfort in the face of uncertainty. We stumbled upon a clearing, and in its center, a figure awaited – Lucius's knight.

"Zion," he greeted, a guarded expression on his face.

I didn't waste time on pleasantries. "Explain yourself. Why do you have my family's bow?"

The knight hesitated, exchanging a glance with Monica. "It's not as simple as stealing, Zion. There are forces at play beyond our control."

"Enough with the cryptic explanations," I snapped. "Tell me the truth."

Monica intervened, her voice measured. "We need to understand the full story before passing judgment. Zion, let him explain."

Reluctantly, I nodded, my eyes never leaving the knight. He began recounting a tale of deception, betrayal, and a duty that bound him to a higher cause. As his words unfolded, a knot formed in my stomach – a conflict between the loyalty to my family and the realization that the situation was more intricate than I had initially believed.

Monica's expression mirrored my inner turmoil. The knight's story was compelling, weaving a web of complexities that blurred the lines between right and wrong. The forest, once a symbol of uncertainty, now seemed to echo the tangled threads of our predicament.

As the knight finished his narrative, silence descended upon the clearing. I grappled with conflicting emotions, torn between seeking justice for my family and understanding the greater purpose at play. Monica's gaze sought mine, and in that moment, we shared a silent exchange that spoke volumes.

"I need time to process this," I finally uttered, my voice strained. "But understand this – the truth must prevail, and consequences will follow. If I find out that you are behind this Lucius, I will kill you off right here."

Turning around, I stormed out of the castle, shooting one last glance at Monica who seemed to beg me with her eyes.
