Chapter 123 Chapter 113 - Part A
Rosemary
The cavern shuddered violently, a low, ominous rumble reverberating through the space. My wolf instincts flared, hackles rising as an oppressive energy descended like a crushing wave. The air grew heavier, stifling, as a shadow deeper than any I had ever seen began to coalesce near the altar. It twisted and writhed, its darkness swallowing the flickering torchlight and plunging the space into a near-abyssal gloom.
I growled low in my throat, my wolf form bristling with a primal warning as the shadow took shape. Slowly, it resolved into a figure - tall, impossibly broad-shouldered, and radiating an aura of power so malevolent it made Andromeda’s magic feel like a mere flicker in comparison.
His eyes were the first thing I noticed - twin orbs of molten gold and crimson, burning with an intensity that made my chest tighten. His features were sharply chiseled, inhumanly perfect, and framed by sleek, jet-black hair that fell like silk against his pale skin. He was dressed in midnight black, his long coat trimmed in crimson embroidery that shimmered faintly with unholy energy. As he moved, the air itself seemed to ripple around him, as though reality couldn’t quite contain his presence.
Andromeda dragged herself upright, her hand clutching the altar for support. Blood trickled from the gash on her arm, but she didn’t seem to care. Instead, her eyes shone with triumph as she turned toward the towering figure.
“Asmodeus,” she said, her voice reverent and tinged with desperation. “You have come.”
I froze, the name sending a chill through me. Asmodeus. The name carried a weight, a resonance, like a whispered curse that lingered in the air. My wolf snarled, pacing within me as I tried to piece together what was happening. Who was this man, this being, that Andromeda had summoned?
The figure turned his piercing gaze on her, his lips curling into a faint, sardonic smile. “I came because you called, Andromeda,” he said, his voice like thunder rolling over jagged rocks. Smooth and deep, it carried a command that sent shivers down my spine. “And because your sacrifice was sufficient for now.”
Sacrifice. The word slammed into me like a physical blow, and the pieces began to fall into place. The rogue wolves. The minions. The bloodshed and destruction she’d wrought. It had all been for this.
I let out a sharp growl, the sound echoing through the cavern as I planted myself between Andromeda and this Asmodeus. My claws scraped against the stone, magic brimming just beneath my fur as I prepared for whatever this new threat would bring. But I needed answers.
Andromeda laughed, the sound weak but triumphant as she leaned heavily against the altar. “Oh, Rosemary,” she said, her tone dripping with condescension. “You really thought this was just about me? That you could end it all by defeating me?” She gestured toward Asmodeus, her bloodied hand trembling slightly. “This is the prince of hell himself. The sacrifices… it was all for him. To bring him here. To bring about the end of your world.”
Asmodeus inclined his head slightly, his smirk widening as he took a slow, deliberate step forward. His gaze flicked to me, and I felt the weight of his scrutiny like a physical force, as though he could see through my wolf form, peeling back the layers of my being.
“And what have we here?” he mused, his tone almost amused. “A wolf… no, something more. A hybrid.” He chuckled softly, the sound low and mocking. “And a powerful one at that. Fascinating.”
I growled sharply, the sound a clear challenge, but he didn’t flinch. Instead, he simply raised a hand, and a wave of pressure rolled through the cavern, forcing me back a step despite myself. My claws scraped against the stone, my muscles straining against the unseen force.
“Enough,” he said, his voice calm but laced with authority. “You are not the one I am concerned with, hybrid. My pact is with her.” He gestured toward Andromeda, who straightened as much as her injuries would allow.
“This is your end, Rosemary,” Andromeda said, her tone dripping with venom. “You might be powerful, but you’re nothing compared to him. With Asmodeus at my side, I will reshape this world. Your pack, your mate, your child - they will all bow to us or be destroyed.”
I growled again, my wolf snarling within me as rage and determination flared. I didn’t know who this Asmodeus was or what he was capable of, but I wasn’t about to let Andromeda win. Not after everything she’d done. Not when so much was at stake.
Asmodeus watched me, his expression unreadable as he folded his hands behind his back. My magic surged in response, a pulsing heat that coiled around me like a living thing. I didn’t know if I could defeat him, didn’t know if my power could match his. But I had to try, for the pack, for everything we had fought for.
Andromeda’s laughter echoed through the cavern, the sound sharp and grating. “You’ll die here, Rosemary,” she said, her voice rising with manic glee. “And I’ll watch your precious world burn.”
I growled low, my wolf poised to strike as Andromeda’s laughter echoed through the cavern. The oppressive weight of Asmodeus’s presence bore down on me, but I refused to give in. My magic hummed beneath my fur, ready and waiting, coiling like a spring ready to unleash.
Asmodeus tilted his head slightly, watching me with a curious expression. “You’re determined,” he said, his voice resonating with an almost amused edge. “But determination without understanding is futile.”
I didn’t wait for him to finish his taunt. My wolf surged forward, claws scraping against the stone as I leaped, magic flooding through me in a burst of raw power. A whirlwind of energy surrounded me, tendrils of light and wind lashing out as I aimed for Andromeda. She had to be my target. If I could weaken her, the pact with Asmodeus might falter.
But I didn’t even reach her.
Asmodeus raised a single hand, and an invisible force slammed into me midair, sending me hurtling backward. I collided with the cave wall; the impact rattling through my bones. A sharp pain lanced through my side, but I forced myself to my feet, shaking off the disorientation.
“Did you think it would be that easy?” Andromeda sneered, stepping forward with an almost casual air. Her lilac eyes gleamed with cruel satisfaction, and the swelling of dark power around her made the air thick and heavy.
I dug deep, letting the surge of my hybrid magic flood through me once again. In my wolf form, the magic felt different - purer, more instinctive. It wasn’t something I had to shape with incantations or spells. It was part of me, as natural as breathing. And now, I let it flow freely.
The ground beneath my paws glowed faintly, tendrils of energy weaving upward and coiling around me like a second skin. The cavern shuddered again, a pulse of power radiating outward as I launched another attack. This time, I aimed for Asmodeus.
He didn’t flinch. He merely raised his hand again, the force of his will meeting my magic head-on. The collision sent sparks flying, illuminating the cavern in bursts of silver and crimson light. For a moment, it seemed like my power might break through, but then his golden-crimson eyes flared brighter, and my magic was deflected once more.
“You’re strong, little hybrid,” Asmodeus said, his tone laced with mockery. “But strength alone isn’t enough to face me.”
I snarled, pacing in a tight circle, my wolf assessing every angle. My instincts screamed at me to find a weakness, to exploit the smallest crack in their defenses. Andromeda stood slightly behind Asmodeus, her hands weaving intricate patterns in the air as she summoned more of her dark magic.
