Chapter 15 Sisterly Hatred

Chapter 15 Sisterly Hatred
LYRA

Reid doesn’t answer right away.

His silence claws at my nerves, though I don’t understand why. I shouldn’t care what he says. I shouldn’t wait to hear him admit if I’m his type or not.

Yet, I stand here, holding my breath like a fool, waiting.

“I don’t understand why you’re so invested in my love life,” he finally says. His voice is low with a deadly calmness. He peels Roxanna’s hands off his collar, firmly. His eyes cut into her like ice. She stiffens, chest rising and falling too fast.

“Don’t make me repeat myself a third time,” he adds, gaze unflinching. “I am not interested in you. I don’t find you appealing in any way. The sooner you stop humiliating yourself with this nonsense, the better.”

Then, he walks away, not even sparing her a glance.

The moment he disappears down the corridor, Roxanna kicks the small decor table beside her. The crack of impact echoes through the hallway.

Her breath shakes as her gaze drifts, and finds me.

We lock eyes.

Normally, I’d feel caught. Guilty for eavesdropping. But not this time. What I feel is secondhand humiliation on her behalf.

“How long have you been standing there?” She snaps, pushing her fingers through her hair.

“Long enough to witness your tragic attempt at seducing our new house guest,” I say, slowly stepping fully into view. “Honestly, I never thought I’d live to watch the great, boy-obsessed Roxanna get rejected so effortlessly.”

She scoffs, jaw tight. “At least I’m not the girl who can’t even satisfy her man. Dean has to come to me for that. Maybe it’s time you hand over that useless virginity already.”

I let out a short disbelief-filled laugh. Amazing. This is the same girl who was literally begging forgiveness after I caught her naked with Dean.

“Nice to see your true colors finally bleeding through,” I say, flicking my hair over my shoulder. I inhale slowly, steadying myself. “You know what? I don’t even know why I’m wasting my breath on you. Your private disasters are not my concern. Good luck throwing yourself at Reid, though. In case you haven’t noticed, he hates the sight of you.”

I turn to walk away.

“I’m in love with him,” she says, “And I’ll make sure he falls for me too.”

My steps freeze at once. I turn back to her, stare for a second, then a laugh bursts out of me.

“You?” I repeat. “In love?”

She doesn’t answer. Just stares.

I shake my head, still laughing. “Are you serious right now? You’re really confusing your obsession with sex for love?”

“I’m serious,” she says.

I stop laughing, and stare at her like she’s finally lost her mind.

Because she has.

Roxanna has never known love. She lives for sex, attention, and ruining what belongs to others. Not love.

“Listen, Lyra…” she steps toward me, arms folded like she’s the calm one here. “I know you’re reacting this way because you’re still hurt about what happened, and I’m sorry. That’s why I plan to start over with Reid.”

Okay, she’s absolutely delusional.

I blink at her, speechless. “Reid doesn’t even like you,” I say. “You heard him. You heard the way he spoke to you. He literally said you’re not his type…”

Roxanna bursts into laughter, cutting me off. She laughs so hard she needs to cover her mouth. “And you actually believe that? Oh, sweetheart… I am every man’s type.”

Blood rushes through my veins, boiling hot. She closes the distance and reaches for my hair. I jerk away. She still smiles.

“Reid just has a big ego,” she says breezily. “I know men like him. All I have to do is keep pushing, feed that ego, give him a good blowjob and ride his cock like it’s my throne, and soon? He’ll start chasing me. Obsessed… as always.”

My hands curl into fists at my sides. I fight the urge to slap the madness out of her.

She keeps going, eyes glowing with delusion. “I’ll find my way into his bed… then into his heart. I’ll make him fall deeply in love. Then I’ll make him mine, Lyra. Once I’m settled, I’ll ask Father for his permission to have Reid as my arranged mate.”

Her smile softens into one of pity. “At least when that happens, I’ll be off your back. And you won’t have to worry about Dean climbing into my bed again.”

She brushes my shoulder as she walks past, pretending it’s unintentional. It’s not. Tears burn behind my eyes, but I swallow them back.

“I wish I’d never asked Father to adopt you when we found you alone in the woods that day,” I say quietly.

Her steps stop.

A tear breaks free and rolls down my cheek as I slowly turn. “I wish I’d never called you my sister.”

She stares for a moment, her expression unreadable. Then she shrugs.

“That’s fine. I’ve always hated you anyway.” Her words are like a blow to my chest.

She leans in now, voice a sinister whisper. “I’ve always hated that you got Father’s love and attention. That you got an arranged mate from the Alpha’s bloodline. You hurt my feelings, you know?”

Another tear slips down my face. I feel numb. Frozen. Of all the things Roxanna has done, I never imagined this. Never imagined the sister I loved… hated me all along.

“Don’t cry too much, honey.” She smirks and wipes the tear off my cheek. I’m too stunned, too broken, to push her away. Her smile widens. “This is just the beginning of your misery.”
