Chapter 28 A secret within

Chapter 28 A secret within
His eyes bulged out, and a gasp escaped his lips.

Axel staggered back, placing his hands on his chest.

“Alpha Amelia, I…”

“Cut the crap, loser, I was kidding,” I smirked, waving my hand.

Axel must have run away when he sensed danger. This dude is a pain in the neck.

He sighed in relief, patted his chest, and moved closer.

“What brought you here?”

“T…to check up on you and Alpha Hans. Are you guys feeling alright? Is there anything you need?”

Playing smart, Uhn? This dude.

“As you can see, we are fine, and on our way to see the Healer. So if you will excuse me,”

He bowed his head and stepped aside.

Hans called out to me as I stepped out of the room, and when I turned around, he pointed to his leg.

Oh, I forgot that.

I returned, took his hand, and helped him limp out of the room.

Helping Hans down the stairs wasn't a joke, and I wished we had an elevator. Maybe we should put one here.

“Axel? Do you think putting an elevator here will be perfect?”

“Absolutely, Alpha Amelia. That way, Alpha Hans wouldn't have to stress you to bring him down the stairs.”

Great! Axel does know when I joke. Now he has pushed Hans's button, and Hans is glaring at him.

“Get out of here!” he thundered, and Axel staggered out.

I couldn't help but burst into laughter while Hans kept a straight face.

“Do you think it is funny? That dude is a Beta, stop making these jokes with him.”

And now he is jealous? He hasn't seen anything yet. I will make sure I annoy him with Axel since he chose to go against my will to choose him as my Beta.

“Let's go already, the healer can't wait.”

He frowned, extending his hand to me.

I couldn't stop giggling at him as I helped him out of the building. But he didn't get angry, and he didn't tell me to shut up.

And the moment we entered the car, and I was still giggling, he shut me up with a kiss.

Everywhere froze instantly, and all I could hear was my heart pounding against my chest.

“That was so good!” Amy giggled happily, wagging her puffy tails.

Hans just kissed me, and it is good? Omg!

“Feel that? Are you in love with me now?”

He winked at me, snapping me back to reality.

I slapped his chest, then turned my back on him.

“Do not do that ever again!”

It was his turn to laugh at me, and he didn't stop until we reached the Healer’s house.

I didn't help him out of the car this time, but the driver did.

“Alpha Amelia, darling, I was expecting you.” The healer, a man in his mid-fifties, hugged me and pecked my cheek.

That felt like my Dad’s hug and kisses, and I wanted to trigger my tear gland, but I controlled it.

“Sorry for everything that happened last night in the Pack. I know you weren't expecting that, and you would have saved those who lost their lives if you knew.”

I sighed deeply, lowered my head, and blinked to control the tears.

He took us inside the house, ushered us onto the sofa, and went to bring us coffee.

“He is kind,”

Hans said as soon as the Healer entered the kitchen.

“Yeah.” I nodded my head, looking around.

He has been this kind since I first knew him. When I was little, I used to come to his house to play with his daughter, who was my age, but she died, and I couldn't go there again.

When he handed us a cup of coffee each, we thanked him, and he sat in his old, wooden chair.

“Right from the day you became the Alpha, I have been waiting for you to come see me and inquire about the hairpin your Dad gave you on your eighteenth birthday.”

Uhn? He knows about the hairpin? Hans and I exchanged glances.

“Do not be surprised, Alpha, I gave him the hairpin upon request. And there is something about that hairpin that you don't know.

Had you come to me with it, this war wouldn't have happened.”

Uhn? How?

“I don't understand, Healer Matt. Can you explain it to me, please?”

He chuckled softly, got up from his chair, and disappeared into the inner room.

“What is he talking about, Amelia?”

Hans asked, but I also don't know. Besides, we were both sitting there when I asked him to explain it.

“I don't know.” I shrugged my shoulders, rolling my eyes annoyingly.

A few minutes later, he came out holding a mini cute box and placed it on the center table.

“That is for you, Amelia. Your parents wanted to give it to you on your twentieth birthday, and unfortunately, they died. And here I am giving it to you.”

I picked it up, wondering what that could be, and it turned out to be a gold ring.

They even had a special gift made for me, but didn't know they wouldn't live past my nineteenth birthday.

Tears dropped from my eyes, but I quickly wiped them out the rest. An Alpha can not be seen shedding tears; I must be strong like my Dad.

“That ring and the hairpin can activate a powerful magic only you can control.”

Is there something like that? Isn't that a thingy from years ago? When werewolves lived in ancient times?

This is a modern world; we use gadgets and don't believe in magic.

“What kind of magic, Healer Matt?”

Hans asked as I examined the ring that could activate the magic only I can control.

“In this kingdom, only two of those hairpins; you possessed one, and Luna Elaine Morgan of the Arkonix Pack owned the other one.”

That's Hans and Hams’ Mum.

“Yes, your late Mum. She knew so much about the hairpin and how to control the magic it entails. And if she had taken the hairpin with her that day, she and Alpha Morgan wouldn't have died.”

Wow! This man knows a lot.

“But why do I have the other hairpin? Is there anything hidden behind the wall?”

He chuckled softly, sipped the coffee, and nodded his head.

“Yes. There is something between you and Luna Elaine that nobody knows.”
