Chapter 27 My mistake

Chapter 27 My mistake
~AMELIA BROOK~

My gaze fell on the white ceiling when I opened my eyes, and the memory of what had happened in the training ground surged inside my mind.

The wailing of children, the cry of the adults, and the scream of the teens all echoed in my ears. Then their blood splashes all over the walls, the grounds, and on the rogues slaughtering them.

Tears flowed down my face. My heart bled bitterly for those lost souls. Rowan is a monster who doesn't have an atom of feelings in his heart.

He could have come directly for me instead of those innocent, weak creatures. How will I live with this guilt? It is my fault that these innocent people lost their lives.

I swear, I will seek justice for them. Everyone in the Valtorium Pack will spend their entire life atoning for Rowan’s mistake.

All of them, especially his family members. Their punishments will be much worse than those of their Pack members. They will be reduced to the weakest wolves in this Pack. They will wish they hadn't existed. They will want to know that they weren't born and raised in the Valtoroum Pack. And finally, that Pack will cease to exist, and its name will be wiped out of history.

I turned to the right side of the bed and found Hans lying there with his eyes closed. His head was bandaged roundly, and his left leg was also.

What could have happened to him? He wasn't in the Pack when the attack occurred. Maybe he fell into trouble, which was why he didn't return.

But now that I see him, I am relieved. I thought I was never going to see him again.

I gently lifted my hand and placed it on his arm. Hans opened his eyes, turned towards me, and smiled.

“I am sorry I left you to handle that alone,” he apologized, looking at me.

But it wasn't his fault. Even if he were around, what would have happened?

“The best thing is, Rowan is dead.” I smiled at him, and he slowly bobbed his head.

“That idiot! Had he still been alive, I would be the one to kill him!” he looked at me. “Amelia, you are the bravest Alpha I have ever seen.”

After him, right? He is so brave, powerful, and handsome.

That reminds me, and I am curious about what kept him from returning so long.

“Rowan attacked me on my way to the Arkonix Pack.”

Whoa!

“And he injected me with wolfsbane, which made me pass out for one week. I tried mind linking Amy today, but…”

“We tried too, but couldn't get to you for a week. What happened to Kael?”

Oh, wait, he said he was injected with a wolfsbane. Does that mean…

My eyes snapped wide.

“Kael isn't dead, right?” I asked, my eyes so broad in fear.

“I don't know, Amelia, I can't hear him anymore. He doesn't even answer me, and I have tried waking him up, but to no avail,” he sighed worriedly. “I am concerned about what might happen to him. I don't want to lose Kael.”

Hans tried to hold back his tears, but he couldn't. He let them fall freely, looking away from me.

He isn't the only one afraid of losing Kael; I am, too. If we lose him, then Amy will forever remain in sorrow. And if that happens, both Hans and I will gradually lose our minds until we finally die.

That can't happen; we must do anything to bring Kael back.

“Can you feel Kael?” I mind-linked Amy after Hans left the bed to wash his face in the bathroom.

“I can't, Amelia, I am scared.” She whimpered, then buried her face in her paws.

“You won't lose Kael, okay? I will do whatever I can to bring him back. He is our mate. And we can't lose our mate?”

She bobbed her head, sniffling.

“Amy, listen to me. You are weak from fighting that bastard, but you can't let Kael’s quietness drag you down. This is the moment I need you the most in my life. We need to fight the Valtoroum Pack and shut down that Pack. If you help me do this, I promise to bring Kael back in three days.”

Hearing that, Amy lifted her head.

“Three days? Are you sure?”

“Yes, I promise.”

I slowly got up from the bed, walked towards the window, and sighed deeply, seeing the ruins in my Pack.

“Dad, Mum, I am sorry this happened. I promise I will always be ready for an attack from now on. The members of this Pack won't go through this shit again,”

I looked towards the weather with eyes filled with tears.

“Moon Goddess, do not punish me for this. Give me another chance, and you will be proud of me.”

As soon as the bathroom door opened, I wiped off the tears on my face and spun around, smiling at Hans.

“Do you still feel pain in your leg?”

He sighed and nodded his head.

“This leg can only return to normal when Kael returns.”

“Then we shall bring him back.”

I entered the closet, changed into a new dress, and came out.

“We will go see the Healer right now.”

“But we've already seen him,” he said.

“Not that one, there is another healer who was my late Dad’s best friend. He lives on the outskirts of the Pack. He can help us with our mate…your leg!”

I turned my back on him, blinking nervously. I can't believe I just let that out.

“Understand it, it was a slip of tongue. I wanted to say your wolf.”

Hans chuckled softly,

“Why then do you look nervous?” he asked, limping towards me.

“Nothing,” I stepped away from him, but he kept stepping closer. “Tell me, are you already in love with me? Are you going to break one of the rules in the contract?”

Damnit! So glad he reminded me. Sheesh, Amelia, I need to keep my head straight, so what is ahead of me, leading my Pack?

Knock!

A subtle knock came from the door, and when I opened it, Axel was standing in his usual self, sweaty and nervous.

And surprisingly, he wasn't injured,

“Axel? Were you the one who invited those Rogues here?”
