Chapter 114 The Truth
Chapter 114 The Truth
\- Alpha Dennis POV -
Will carefully guided him away.
Frost glanced back at me once.
Our eyes met.
And in that second, something unspoken passed between us.
After they left, I shifted back fully into my human form. The familiar ache ran through my body as bones rearranged and fur vanished. One of my men rushed forward, handing me clean clothes.
I dressed quickly.
Then I went to her.
Helena lay still, her breathing shallow, her skin far too pale.
I knelt beside her.
For a moment, I was afraid to touch her.
Afraid she would be cold.
But she was warm.
Still warm.
“Helena,” I whispered.
No response.
Carefully, I slid my arms beneath her broken body and lifted her.
She felt so light.
Too light.
Her blood stained my chest, my hands, my clothes.
I didn’t care.
If she bled, I would carry every drop.
I carried her outside and mounted my horse in one swift movement, holding her tightly against me.
“Open the gates!” I roared as we approached the Kingdom.
The guards moved instantly.
The ride felt endless, though we were moving at full speed. The wind cut against my face, but I barely felt it. All I could feel was her faint heartbeat against my chest.
Stay alive.
Stay with me.
At the castle, I dismounted before the horse fully stopped. I carried her inside, ignoring the shocked stares of servants and guards.
Straight to my chamber.
I laid her gently on my bed.
She’s mine.
My mate.
My soul.
And I would not let her out of my sight.
“Send for the doctor!” I ordered.
He arrived within minutes, breathless and pale.
“Save her!” I roared the moment he entered.
“Yes, Alpha.”
He bowed deeply, though I saw fear flicker in his eyes before he hurried to her side.
I stepped back.
But not far.
Never far.
The door closed as he began working.
I waited outside, pacing like a caged beast.
My hands trembled.
My heart pounded so loudly it echoed in my ears.
Memories flooded me.
Five years ago.
The night we mated.
The way she looked at me... shy but certain.
The warmth of her hand in mine.
Then the separation.
The misunderstandings.
The distance.
And now… this.
“Wolfie!”
I turned sharply at the familiar call.
Frost was running toward me, his small legs moving as fast as they could. His arms were stretched upward.
My heart skipped.
How…
How did he know I was wolfie?
When he reached me, he stopped and lifted his hands higher.
He wanted me to carry him.
Even with everything burning inside me, I felt the corner of my lips twitch.
I picked him up.
He was small.
Warm.
He fit perfectly against me.
“How did you know I’m wolfie?” I asked quietly.
He didn’t answer.
Instead, he wrapped his little arms around my neck and hugged me tight.
My breath caught.
The moment his warmth pressed against me, the storm inside me quieted.
My fear.
My anger.
My guilt.
All of it softened.
He sniffed near my collar before pulling back slightly.
“You smell like wolfie,” he said with a small smile.
My chest constricted.
Smell?
This child…
He wasn’t normal.
I knew it the moment I first saw him.
He carried the blood of a werewolf.
Though he was too young to awaken fully, something inside him was already alive.
And yet, he was calm.
Steady.
Even after witnessing violence.
“W-where’s mommy?” he asked softly.
“She’s inside,” I told him. “The doctor is taking care of her. She will get better soon.”
His eyes searched mine carefully.
“Will mom really get better?”
I forced a faint smile.
“Don’t you trust your mommy?”
“I do…” he pouted.
“Then hold on to that. She won’t leave you. The doctor is doing his best. And your mommy is strong. She will fight her way back to you.”
He nodded slowly.
But my curiosity burned inside me.
I couldn’t ignore it any longer.
“Is Helena really your mom?” I asked carefully.
His brows furrowed.
“You know mommy?”
Damn.
I smiled lightly. “How old are you?”
He lifted his hand proudly.
Four fingers.
“Four!” he said brightly.
My heart dropped.
“F-four…?” I whispered.
He nodded eagerly.
Four years.
It had been five years since Helena and I mated.
One year later…
Frost was born.
No.
Helena was a Royal Princess.
She could never mate with anyone else.
She could never bear another’s child.
Only her true mate’s.
Only mine.
And I…
I was her mate.
My mind raced.
Could it be?
Could it truly be?
That Frost…
Was our child?
The thought hit me like thunder.
I looked at him again.
At his gray eyes.
At the shape of his nose.
At the way he held himself so bravely despite everything.
My wolf stirred inside me.
Not with anger.
Not with violence.
But with recognition.
A strange, deep pull.
As if something long lost had just been found.
Frost blinked at me innocently.
“Wolfie?”
My throat felt dry.
If he was mine…
If Helena had carried my child all this time…
Then why didn’t I know?
Why was I kept in the dark?
Or worse…
What had she endured alone?
The chamber door creaked open behind me.
I stiffened.
The doctor stepped out, sweat covering his forehead.
“Alpha,” he said carefully.
I tightened my hold on Frost unconsciously.
“Well?” I demanded.
His expression was serious.
And in that moment, I realized something.
Everything was about to change.
Could it be…
That Frost…
Was our child?
