Chapter 111 My Helena

Chapter 111 My Helena
\- Alpha Dennis’ POV -
When we reached the East, we immediately spread out and searched around. The feeling inside my chest grew stronger with every step, like a fire that had been asleep for years and was now waking up, hungry and wild. The wind brushed against my face, cold and sharp, but it carried something with it.
A scent.
Familiar.
Enticing.
Unforgettable.
Her scent.
It exploded inside me, igniting my entire body. My lungs burned as I inhaled deeply, desperate for more of it. Pine, earth, and beneath it—her. The same scent that once clung to my skin. The same scent that filled my nights and haunted my dreams.
Helena... My mate.
She's alive!
But along with excitement came worry and fear. My wolf growled restlessly inside me, pacing, claws scraping against my ribs as if he wanted to tear free.
Something is wrong.
He felt it.
I felt it.
The bond was alive, but it was not calm. It was frantic. Shaken. Hurt.
Warning me that something bad had happened to my mate.
I followed the trail of her scent as it clung to the breeze, my boots crushing leaves and twigs beneath me. The forest was quiet in that uneasy way that comes before a storm. Even the birds had stopped singing.
Then I saw where the scent led.
And my heart dropped.
Down the hill was a broken car, crushed and smoking, its metal twisted like a dying beast. One wheel spun slowly, creaking. The windshield was shattered, glass scattered across the ground like frozen tears.
“Helena…” My voice broke as I dashed forward without another thought.
Branches whipped against my face, but I didn’t feel them. Rocks cut into my palms as I slid down the slope, but I didn’t notice. Fear clawed at my chest, tightening around my lungs until I could barely breathe.
After five long years, I would finally see the woman I love—
but this was not how I imagined our reunion.
Not like this.
Not in blood and smoke.
Not in silence.
When I reached the car, I tore the doors open, the metal screeching under my strength. The smell of burned rubber and gasoline filled the air. My hands trembled as I searched frantically.
“Helena! Helena!”
But it was empty.
No one was there.
The seats were stained with blood. The dashboard cracked. The airbag deflated like a dead lung.
Still, her scent lingered thickly.
Fresh.
Undeniable.
She had been here.
But she wasn’t alone.
Another scent lingered.
Male.
Old.
Rotten with hatred.
Damn.
My chest tightened.
What if someone took her?
What if she was hurt?
What if I was too late—again?
'Find her!' my wolf roared in my head. 'Damn you, Dennis, how could you be so slow?'
He was furious, his rage clawing through my veins. But beneath it, I could feel his excitement. For so long, he had mourned as if Helena was dead. We had both mourned. We had both broken.
But now…
now we knew she was alive.
And this time, we wouldn’t let her slip away.
Not again.
Never again.
I stepped back from the wreck, my hands curling into fists. My breath came out in harsh bursts. The bond tugged at me, pulling me deeper into the forest.
She was close.
Too close.
I immediately shifted into my wolf form, letting my senses sharpen. Bones cracked and reformed. Muscles stretched. Fur burst through my skin. The world exploded into scent and sound.
Her trail burned in my nose.
Fading.
But there.
I would find her.
I had to.
Suddenly, I sensed Will near. I turned my massive head and saw him standing at the edge of the hill, his face pale as he took in the wreckage.
I faced him and commanded through the mindlink,
'Patrol all borders. Don’t let anyone in or out of the territory. Seize all suspicious people and wait for my orders.'
“Yes, Alpha.” He bowed his head before vanishing with the others, his scent quickly disappearing into the trees.
Good.
No one would escape.
No one would take her from me.
Not again.
I ran.
My paws pounded against the earth as I followed her faint scent. Leaves scattered beneath me. Branches snapped. The forest blurred into streaks of shadow and green.
My chest ached with every breath, excitement and fear mixing dangerously. The bond pulsed like a heartbeat that was not my own.
I would never forgive myself if I lost Helena again.
For five years my heart had screamed for her.
For five years my soul had been empty without her.
I never stopped waiting.
I never stopped searching.
Even when other women threw themselves at me, I never laid eyes on them. Their laughter meant nothing. Their touch meant nothing. Their scent meant nothing.
I only had one woman.
Helena.
