Chapter 108 To Face the Past

Chapter 108 To Face the Past
I bit my lip to stop the sound of my sobs. But no matter how much I tried to bury it, Froylan could still affect me, big time.
My body remembered him.
My soul ached for him.
I remembered the warmth of his arms, the way his voice softened when he spoke my name, the way his wolf would calm at my presence.
I remembered the night we promised forever.
And the night I broke it.
I walked out to the veranda and took a deep breath, letting the fresh air cool my heated chest.
The sky above the human town was pale blue, streaked with thin clouds. Laundry fluttered on lines nearby. A tricycle passed on the road. Normal life.
Simple life.
Maybe… maybe it’s time.
Time to face the past.
Time to face the pain.
Time to face the real world I had left behind.
I had enough rest.
I think… I’m ready.
Wiping my tears away, I headed to the kitchen to cook lunch.
_____________
“Are you ready, baby?” I asked Frost as I fastened his seatbelt.
We had just landed back on supernatural land.
Even saying that in my mind felt unreal.
After years in the human world, stepping onto supernatural soil again felt like waking from a long dream. The air was different—thicker, alive with magic. The wind carried scents I had not realized I missed: pine, earth, distant rain, and something ancient that had no name.
I even brought my car on the plane so we could travel smoothly to the Kingdom.
Now, we were driving toward the castle.
The wedding would be held two months from now, but I wanted to surprise my family. Since I had no way of communicating with them, this was the only way.
And besides, it would be less of a burden if I didn’t disturb anyone.
I heard that the Supernatural World had been peaceful under Heminica’s rule for the last five years.
I was so proud of her.
She had always been strong, but she carried pain deeper than anyone knew. To rise from that and lead an entire kingdom… she had become someone truly great.
Though rumors still said there was tension between werewolves and vampires.
Old wounds do not heal easily.
But with Heminica’s marriage to King Simone, maybe that tension could finally heal.
Maybe the next generation would grow up without hatred carved into their hearts.
As I drove through the forest road, I felt something stir inside me.
I was home.
The closer we got to Gargantilla Kingdom, the heavier my heart beat.
This was the place I once lived…
the place I ran from…
and the place where my son truly belonged.
Tall trees lined the road, their branches forming a canopy overhead. Sunlight filtered through the leaves, painting the ground with shifting patterns of gold and green.
I glanced at Frost.
His eyes were wide with amazement as he looked out the window. Different kinds of birds soared above us, their feathers colorful like a rainbow.
“Mommy, look! They’re b-beautiful!” he said, full of awe.
His voice was music to me, and I couldn’t help but smile.
“Yes, they are, baby.”
He pressed his face closer to the glass. “Are they m-magic birds?”
I chuckled softly. “Some of them are.”
He gasped in delight, as if I had just confirmed the greatest secret in the world.
After a while, he asked, “Mommy, are we near?”
“Just take a nap, baby. Okay? I’ll wake you up when we arrive,” I reassured him, my eyes fixed on the road.
He nodded, fighting sleep for a moment before his eyelids drooped. His head tilted to the side, and within minutes, he was asleep.
His soft breathing filled the car.
The sky was painted red and yellow, the sun sinking low on the horizon. It would be dark soon.
I sighed.
The trip had been long and tiring, and my eyelids felt heavy from the lack of sleep last night. I was too busy thinking of the past to rest.
Memories kept returning.
Froylan’s face.
The palace halls.
The night I left.
The sound of my own heart breaking.
Suddenly—
My heart nearly stopped when I saw an old man standing in the middle of the road.
He appeared out of nowhere.
One moment the road was empty.
The next, he was there.
His figure was thin, wrapped in tattered gray robes that fluttered in the wind. His hair was long and white, covering most of his face. He did not move.
He did not step aside.
He simply stood there.
Watching.
Shocked, I swerved the car to avoid him.
“M-Mommy!” Frost’s frightened scream rang in my ears as he woke up.
“Hold on tighter, Frost!” I shouted as I struggled with the wheel.
The tires screeched against the dirt road. The steering wheel shook violently under my hands.
The car veered off the road, rushing down the slope of a mountain cliff.
The world tilted.
Trees blurred past us.
Rocks cracked beneath the tires.
I slammed on the brakes, but nothing worked.
The pedal sank uselessly under my foot.
My heart pounded in panic until I saw it—
a massive tree standing just ahead.
In a split second, I made my choice.
There was no time.
No second chance.
Only instinct.
I ripped off my seatbelt, threw my body over Frost, and wrapped him in my arms, shielding him completely.
His small body trembled against mine.
“Mom!” His little voice screamed for me as the world blurred around us.
The sound of metal crushing filled the air.
Glass shattered.
The car lurched forward—
And all I could think of… was Froylan.
