Chapter 24
CLAIRE'S POV
I am a magician Erica, and I can always protect us okay?”, “Don't freak, it's fine” I believe it would have hurt us if he truly wanted to, but he didn't and this alone should tell you it's in danger” I said, trying to convince her but from her expressions I could tell that I only successfully confuse her further. “Okay” she said with uncertainty while stepping back and farther away while I moved closer to the whimpering creature on the ground.
On getting closer to the creature, I noticed the pool of blood that had gathered on its side and this confirmed my suspicions about it. I bent down and touched it, trying to feel its temperature but it instead turned over while my hands stopped mid-air. “I looked at its eyes and a pair of ocean blue eyes stared back at me and I couldn't help but mutter a wow” I wondered how a scary-looking creature such as this would have such beautiful eyes and this piqued my interest in it.
I muttered a shhh and tried to talk to it as calm as possible. “I'm not dangerous you know, I-well.. I just want to help if you don't mind, I'll like to treat your wounds but please promise not to bite me” I said with the calmest voice. The creature looked at me again and finally relaxed and I was quite shocked at its behavior.
I placed my hand on its body and something unexpected happened.
Waves of electricity surged through my body and I shook, violently. I began muttering the most powerful protective spells my mom taught me, but it never worked. I shook violently as I feel something moving from my body to the strange creature's body. It felt like I transferred something to him, its wounds started closing up, and life returned to him. All these happened in the split of a second and I doubt if Erica noticed.
When I finally recovered from the shock, the strange creature has already gotten up on its feet and after looking at me briefly, it jumped and disappeared into the trees at the speed of lightning. I was marveled, surprised, shocked at whatever happened and tried hard to wrap my head around it. “Do I have some unknown healing powers now?” I thought as I looked at my hands as if it would provide answers.
Erica moved closer to me, looking as worried as ever. “What the hell happened there?, did it hurt you?” She asked, impatiently. I was still in a daze and couldn't replied her right away. “I-I-I- don't know Erica, it was really weird” I said, looking as pale as a ghost.
Erica palmed my cheeks worriedly. “Tell me what happened right away” “I healed the monster without even casting spells, Erica” I blurted out, almost crying out of shock. “How is that even possible?” Erica asked, giving me a suspicious look. “I-I-I-don't know” I said, sniffling while Erica hugged me tightly. “I don't know or understand what you're talking about but I'm happy it didn't hurt you” she said while still hugging me.
We continued our journey to my Father's house in silence after I had recovered from the shock of what happened. I was lost in my own world as the flashbacks of whatever happened in the forest kept replaying itself in my memory as I try to figure out what actually happened. “Was it a cursed wolf or a mythical creature?” I asked myself silently.
Bringing out my magic book, I ransacked it while trying to look for the part that talked about cursed werewolves, their appearance and weaknesses. I discovered the part and started reading immediately while Erica stared at me with curiosity. “What are you reading that for?” She asked. “To figure out the name of the strange monster we saw the other time” I replied back absentmindedly.
“Well.. good luck with that then” she said, not wanting me to talk about the scary monster anymore. I read about cursed werewolves and how they operated, their speed which is equal to that of lightning, their looks amidst other things.
The book stated that: “many people mistook cursed werewolves for rogue werewolves which is not true but they are both the similar, not in looks but under the circumstances that led to their condition, while becoming a rogue werewolf is caused by heartbreak or whomever the victim loved but becoming a cursed werewolf is far deeper than comprehension and for centuries, no possible explanation has been found for their condition” I read out loud to Erica's hearing.
Ai“But that was not a cursed werewolf Claire, it's far dangerous than that” it has two horns on its head, remember? She replied. “And also, cursed werewolves only exist during the time where fairies live amongst us, so I heard” she added.
I nodded in agreement and sighed in defeat as I tried to think of other things to distract my curious mind. “But how are you feeling right now Erica?” I asked her, just realizing that she had stressed the baby in her womb. “Not too good, but I'll manage I guess” she replied while smiling.
“Let's eat then” I said and we stopped under one of the huge trees and ate some wildberries which we had plucked from it.
Afterwards, we continued our journey and after few more hours, we arrived at Darkmoon pack but on getting there, we were informed by the guards that my dad has been invited to a meeting by some of his delegates.
We patiently waited for the arrival of my father while Erica was busying assessing the chambers and its gardens while asking me questions, most of which i answered her.
My father arrived about an hour later and I hugged him but on setting his eyes on Erica, he looked at me with question marks all over his face and I wondered if he knew already.
“Erm-dad.. er..this is….”
