Chapter 23
ERICA'S POV
We wrote the letter as planned and sent it to my father while the day of the visit patiently approached. I was both excited, angry and nervous, I had mixed feelings about this whole thing. Meeting my Father for the first time, reconciling with him, asking him why he never made any effort to look for me and confirm for himself whether I was truly dead and what actually led to his seperation with mom. I just needed answers to all the questions I've soaked up within me over the years like a sponge.
I needed to know why he allowed himself to hate someone he loved so much and why he never attempted to resolve the issue with mom. I want to know why he claimed to love someone so much yet hated her until the time of her death, something is fishy and thinking about what could have possibly gone wrong is making my head swirl lightly. “Or is this how love is?” I asked myself sadly. I'll rather not fall in love than let my love life end this way. Merely imagining I and Dante's love life being like this made shivers ran down my smile and my skin couldn't help but gather goosebumps in support of my emotions.
Trying to shift my mind and attention away from my weird thoughts, I called out to Claire who was busy casting different protection spells and powers on the necklace we made out of the special flower we collected during our last outing. “Claire, what's the difference between a wildwolf, a werewolf and a wolf?” I curiously asked. While growing up, I had heard a lot of children arguing about this amongst each other, arguments which mostly leads to fights and quarrels.
Shifting her gaze from the necklace, she looked at me with a surprised look. “why do you ask?” She replied back. “Just curious” I answered, looking at her intently like I could read the answers from her face “Well…a wildwolf is the animal version of us, they don't have healing powers, can't turn into humans, they live in the wild with the rest of the animals, nothing spectacular about them, most of them are damn ugly and dirty, they don't have intelligency like us and would attack any living thing in sight and lastly they're not as strong as us although we looked similar to them when we transform.” She explained.
I tried as hard as possible to digest what I just heard. “Who created them then?” I asked, curiously. “ A supreme being, so i had heard” she said, uncertainty written all over her tired face. “More superior than our moon goddess?” I asked again, not satisfied with the short explanation of the being. “Yes,the most superior being to ever exist in the world, million times superior to our moon goddess, He lives in heaven - so I heard” she said.
“Really?!” I exclaimed. “You can't be serious Claire!, I shouted excitedly. “I'll like to meet him as soon as possible!” I added, squealing.
The day of the visit finally approached in a jiffy, I woke up with mixed feelings, uncertainty and excitement. I was excited to meet my biological Fathdr but on ghe other hand, I was uncertain, “what if he rejected me too?” I asked myself dejectedly. “He wouldn't” Claire quickly whispered behind me, she had been there all along.
We set off on the journey to Darkmoon with few things including Claire's healing herbs and a very short magic book. I wore a coat as I was feeling a bit cold. I asked her more questions as we walked deeper in the forest which she claimed is the shortest route to Darkmoon pack. “So I heard that werewolves can't die, how true is that?” I asked as we dragged our feet along the bushy paths.
“They can die, of course.” “Through decapitation, fire and several other things that are related to the supreme being I told you earlier on” she answered and sighed. “But why though?, why is he against us?” I asked, almost shedding tears.
“It's just that….” “G-grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrhhhhhhhh!!!” Claire wasn't able to complete her statement as we heard a loud deafening and angry growl coming from the forest, the growl was so loud it reverberated all through the forest.
“What the heck is that?” I asked her.
“Shhhh, we're in danger” Claire placed her hands on my lips. And just then a giant-like, ugly-looking creature with two horns jumped down from one of the trees with a loud thud.
“Arrrrrrrrrrrrrgghhhhhh!!!” we shrieked back in fear while covering our faces but deep within me, I was muttering some protective spells with fear. After few minutes of continuously casting the spells, I realized that the weird looking wolf never approached us. It was just there on the ground, looking as though it had been wounded while growling in pain, growls that sounded more like soft whimpers. I tapped Erica who was semi- conscious by now due to fear and she squealed out loud. “ Don't touch me please, I'm pregnant and would like to bond with my baby as a mother, I know I've never been a good…”
“ wake up Erica, it's me” I said, almost laughing but I couldn't do so because of the dangerous situation we were in, right now. “I think it's wounded” I said to her, sighing as I watched the helpless monster. “No it isn't, it's just trying to lure us by pretending so he can devour us if we move closer to him!” Erica screamed out loud in fear.
“ Let's go, Claire, let's run as fast as possible so it wouldn't catch up with us” she said, now looking as pale as a ghost.
I wanted to agree with her at first but a part of me refused and I was trapped between following her and helping the strange creature. “Let's just check up on him Erica, please” I said, almost in tears. “How could you even think of help in this type of dangerous situation?, are you out of your mind or something?” Erica shouted, furiously
