Chapter 14

CLAIRE'S POV

My newly found friend and companion, Erica has been living with me for over two weeks now as our relationship keeps growing stronger as the day goes by. Erica is hardworking, no doubt but I'm surprised and worried at the way she works like a machine. It's quite unusual but understandable as well. Considering her experiences while growing up as a child. She must have been made to do several difficult tasks as a child and therefore she's used to it. I thought as I spaced out again, watching her.

Ever since the time I set my eyes on Erica I was drawn to her immediately. Seeing her unconscious out there in the forests made me heartbroken although I barely know her. I wanted to mind my business as usual because I'm used to it ever since my mom passed away. But there's just something off or special about her that made me liked her from the moment I saw her. I wanted to protect her, care for her and be with her and I can't help but be marvelled at the rate at which I was already attracted to her.

Moreover, she reminded me of someone, my Father. “What if someone is using her as a bait to harm you?” a small voice whispered at the back of my head. Answering the voice I said: “ I've lost my only source of hope which is my mother, I have nothing more to loose if anything happens right now.” “Moreover I'm only offering her a temporary help, it's not like she's gonna live with me forever” I muttered back to the voice and mustering all the courage within me, Justifying myself with all this excuse, I moved closer to the unconcious lady lying on the stack of cold leaves.

I was scared because she isn't a member of the bluemoon pack and I couldn't help but thought about what the voice had told me earlier. I mustered courage again and touched her body. It was ice cold. “This lady is gonna freeze to death if I don't help her” I said and carried her on my shoulders and dragging my feet along the cold bushy leaves, I carried her home.

On getting home, I gently placed her on the bed and set up a fire in order to warm up the temperature of the room. Afterwards, I boiled water poured some of the healing powder my late late mom kept for me. Mixing it together, I scooped some of it in a cup and after muttering some healing magical chants I connected with her in the spiritual and ordered her to open her mouth in the physical which she did, and not wasting time, I gave her the drink and she gulped it while still unconscious.

Afterwards, I collected a neat napkin, dipped it in another concoction before using it to rub her body. I did this for a whole day before her body temperature returned to normalcy. I was happy because she's out of danger zone and is likely going to wake up anytime from then. I kept all the concoctions, magical books and every other thing that would make her suspect me away before she woke up. Yes, being a healer is quite a normal thing in bluemoon pack but being a magician? You will be suspected and questioned by the Alpha and this magic has been I and my mom's little secret up till the time of her death.

She had been ill and all healing herbs had been used on her all to no avail. I even practiced some healing magic rituals on her but all efforts proved abortive as she continued to get worse as the day went by. It is quite rare to see a werewolf dying without any valid cause but my mom's death was as a result of her blood. Yes, she had an human blood in her veins. Legend has it that my great great grandmother was an human white magician and healer who fell in love with a black werewolf whom she has healed in the forest while hunting for a special kind of healing herbal root. She had wandered very far into the forest unknowingly and had met the black werewolf whom had been wounded and dumped.

She had took him home and healed him thinking he was a regular animal not until she woke up the next morning and found an handsome man in her room and the rest they say, is history. They got married and had beautiful mixed children and grandchildren. On her deathbed, she had bestowed her healing powers and magic on her children and grandchildren present and the unborn ones like my mom and I before passing away.

This healing powers had continued to be passed generations after generations and explained why we would never be as strong as the main werewolves because we had an human blood in us. This is a secret passed on to us though. No one else in the bluemoon pack knows about it.

I had spaced out looking at her and thinking about all these things until I heard her voice which jolted me back to my senses. “Claire, lunch is ready!” she called out to me while dishing out the potato pottage she had made. I smiled at her and collected a tray to place the dishes on. We went to the front of my house and gisted while we are happily as the cool breeze blows gently on our skins.

“Claire…” she called me and hesitated. “I want to tell you something but I don't know you're gonna take it.” She said, suddenly feeling down. “I know you've done a lot for me and keeping this away from you is just totally unfair to you” she said again.

“Please don't hesitate to tell me anything, feel free okay?” “We're friends for a reason.” I said, holding her hands. I-I-I-erm.. she coughs nervously. I held her hands again rubbing it in hopes that it wound calm her nervousness. “I am pregnant” she said.

Time stood still. And her hands unconsciously dropped from mine. I was dumbstruck.
