Chapter 56 Say it again Princess

Chapter 56 Say it again Princess
Rosie's POV
Damien furrows his brows at me, stunned, and almost turns his eyes, but I grab his collar, not minding the gun, not minding how bloody he looks.
My hands dragged him inside while I used my foot to slam the door, panting heavily like I had narrowly escaped danger or was looking at one.
"What was that?" He whispered, his eyes searching for mine, and I offered a faint smile.
That gun muzzle was now in the crook of my neck, the metal sends shivers running down my spine.
"You took me away from here... can't I last...well, can't..."
What am I saying? I don't even understand myself.
He lowered the gun, crossed his arms and said;
"Speak up"
"I..."
I can't speak when there's a loud bang on the door. It was the kids, wanting to break in and, this time, Damien had turned around to take a look.
I squeezed myself to the door, gasping heavily as I was trapped between him and the door now.
He's startled, his eyes scanning me as he reads my instinct. I can tell he feels I'm hiding something.
"What are you doing? There are kids outside and..."
"I love you, Damien. I love you!!" I screamed, closing my eyes and placing my hands on his chest.
"Mum..."
Quickly, I captured his lips just to distract him and his body leaned on me, enveloping me like a shield.
His lips fondled mine with tenderness, soft, slow, and soothing as I gasped, wanting to intimate with his movement even when I started it.
His touch was hesitant, as though not wanting his bloody hand on me, but we were pressed against each other now.
Soon, my ears heard no external noise and I knew Harry had picked up the signal.
Nervously, I terminated the kiss, resting properly on the door as I quivered.
Slowly, I fluttered my eyes, unable to meet his gaze while my chest rose up and down.
Damien looked so startled that he couldn't move until he rested one of his hands over his head, on the door, taking in a long breath.
His gaze was thoughtful.
"Say it again princess," he muttered. His eyes lurched at me, they sparkled and smiled.
His words struck a chord deep inside me, as though he was flattered by the lie.
Somehow, I felt a desperate, irrational urge to see him again, but I only did that to send Harry and the kids away.
"Did I say anything?" I asked, acting confused as the fear of him came in immediately and excessively.
He grabbed my jaw and smiled, and that easily and the familiar warmth softened the sharp edge of my anxiety.
"Liar..."
"You're looking bloody," I said, switching the topic and feeling all anxious.
He shouldn't pester me over that line, it was just a means to keep the kids away.
"I told you I went to a war," he whispered, cocking his head slightly for another kiss, but I went down, crept out through his underarm, and stood behind him.
A distant door as my eyes peeped through the glassy wall to be sure the kids weren't there.
"And I guess you won a girl back," I asked, hesitating to move away as he had shattered the fragile peace I had intended to hold with my family.
He turns to look at me, suddenly taking off his coat and hanging it on his free arm while placing his gun inside it.
He looks exhausted, scrolling around the house in seconds and then back to me.
I met his gaze again, his eyes searched mine.
There's a bitterness that flushes him as his eyes are suddenly accusing me of something.
He's suspecting me. I was fidgeting, trying to avoid his eyes while struggling to maintain a composed facade.
"You brought one right, that's why you're quiet," I posed again.
I guess he learned I ran away again and traced me down here after the so-called war.
Why wasn't I freaking out because of how he looked but more tensed over the fact that I might be caught between my lies?
"Maybe," he coldly said, walking past me to the dining table. His walk was fluid and quick.
I cleared my throat, crossed my arms and my feet shifted subtly as if preparing for an escape.
He saw...the table. Everything! But he takes his seat like I prepared the table for him.
"Who were those kids?" He suddenly asked faintly, and I saw that he was so transfixed on the table, taking note of everything.
"The neighbors," I admitted, almost biting my lips and appearing in front of him.
The table was a hindrance between us. I just want to read his expression, but it's suddenly difficult.
Oh moon goddess, save me. I don't want the kids to meet a man like him.
"Mummy is home?" He muttered like a rhyme, the exact words one of the boys sang.
He shifted his stare at me as he placed his arms on the edge of the table, suddenly whistling like the devil who had caught a prey.
I shrugged my shoulders, my eyes flickering as they never settled on one thing for too long, and it betrays my nervousness.
"The neighbors, if you don't believe me, then you can check, she has been away and her boys are excited to receive her," I responded sharply as my tone rose.
Damien nods as he takes a spoon and serves himself macaroni and cheese.
His eyes didn't look at me as he looked cold and calculating while my skin flushed with turmoil rushing inside me.
"The banging on the door, they looked like they were here for you..."
"They're troublemakers, and they terrorized the neighborhood, you know, boys," I replied, kissing my teeth and slowly taking my seat.
Fortunately, I didn't write anything on any of the cakes on the table except the cake that was ruined.
"The cake earlier," he pressed, bent on sieving the truth from me.
Is he reading my mind now? His eyes are suddenly counting the plates on the table as he pulls a frown.
