Chapter 53 Are you prepared to put your life on the line?
Damien's POV
Luckily, it's a silencer and so no sound was made.
His body yanks to the ground backward in a loud thud.
Daven's face squeezed as he locked eyes with me, piqued by my actions.
"You killed him," Daven muttered not too loudly, as his respect was still there.
I shrugged my shoulders, nonchalant about what I'd done.
"His useless fight pisses me off."
"We are in public, sir."
"In a lonely alley?" I countered by using the muzzle of the gun to scratch the crook of my neck.
"With cameras," he pointed out in a respectful tone and I kissed my teeth, running my fingers through my hair before they connected with my jaw.
"Well, his phone...try hacking it or something."
"He has no gadgets, sir," he pointed out, and I scoffed, tossing the gun inside my pants pocket.
"Just call the cleaners and let's call it a day," I mused, feeling drowsy as my head still hurt, but I didn't want to make it obvious.
"Aren't we seeing Harry?" he asked, and I growled, throwing my head back.
"Who's Harry?" I questioned, wanting to have a detailed analysis of the whole situation.
He crossed over the dead body to meet me. Then he takes out his phone and shoves it into my face.
"He looks responsible," I commented, while gesturing for him to take the phone away.
He placed a call through the cleaners and once they arrived, we left that place in the car.
"Why are we killing him again?" I asked, confused and trying to ignore the banging on my head.
Daven breathed hard, and I can tell he has repeated the reason over and over again, but it still won't register in my head.
"He's..."
I point my hand outward to stop him from speaking. Let's just kill him and get it done with.
"You've got his address?" I asked, raising my left brow and feeling uncomfortable as I felt dizzy again.
"Yes sir," he answered.
"We'd have the meeting first with my subordinates and then pay a friendly visit to this Harry," I said, wrapping up the conversation because I wanted the day to end.
"And the slots? How do we probe into the case?" He was more intrigued than I was.
I nodded, exhausted, he looks double in my eyes now, but I managed to say:
"Figure that out yourself and give me feedback."

Playing with the spark wheel and keeping a keen ear for what this gamma speaks seems to have me more engrossed.
To me, the only sounds I heard were the soft hum of the air conditioner and the frequent rustling of paper.
I'm in a room with 5 subordinates who are presenting... what's it again?
Something like a land acquisition and if they impress me, I might probably sign it into fruition.
"What do you think about the alpha?" A gamma asked. He's a stain, he's more of a bureaucrat and his hands were gesticulating.
A smirk was suspended on my lips as I leaned properly on the backrest of the chair I sat on.
My piercing gaze surveys everyone's face in the room.
I gave no response and just thud two of my fingers on the sleek table just for the presenter to repeat himself again.
"We believe acquiring this land would be a strategic move, giving us a foothold in the market and increasing our profits," he says as his voice seems to trail off, he awaits my response again.
I know my expression is unreadable, and I even asked:
"How much land are we looking at over here?"
The second subordinate, Rhyn, swallows hard as he darts his gaze at his colleagues.
They seem uncertain, but then there's a bond who gazes at me.
"A-about 1500 acres, alpha"
His stuttering is a reason to bury this project as they don't even feel confident about what they're presenting.
My gaze didn't waver as my eyes bored into their souls.
"How much will that cost us?"
The third gamma, Hose, hesitated before responding;
"A...about 300 million, alpha"
His hands scanned through the paper in front of him as though he called the fingers wrongly.
I ran my fingers through my hair feeling fatigued as the throbbing in my head subsided.
Maybe because I want to have every reason to be invested in their suggestions.
"And who's running the show? Who's going to be responsible for making sure the investment pays off?" I snapped in a menacing tone, glaring at each other.
The room fell silent, and the subordinates exchanged nervous glances.
They're just feeling nervous over my presence and I guess they're startled. I took it upon myself to be here and not Austin, who handles this for me.
My gaze lingers on each face before moving on to the next.
"Now, gentlemen, what makes you think I'd trust you with this? And what makes you think I'm dumping 300 million on your incompetence?" I said in an edgy tone, brawling at them.
My voice was cold and calculating. It seemed to make the air thick with speculation and fear.
I could see how uncomfortable they were in their seats, raking their heads for a possible reply.
"I'm going to ask you one more time," I muttered, darkening my gaze.
I leaned forward, put the lighter in my hand, and placed it on the table. My eyes didn't flicker, and I could see they were drowning in the ocean.
"Are you prepared to take full responsibility for this acquisition? Are you prepared to put your lives on the line for this?"
Their eyes danced around the room as they struggled to meet my piercing gaze.
It seems I left a question that challenges every one of their proposals.
The only reason they're still a part of my cabin is because of the ties they have with my father.
One by one, I'm kicking them out or making them sleep and never wake up.
They're just greedy men wanting to leech off the wealth of others.
Their silence pissed me off, and I intended to switch the topic.
"Away from that, if I'm to acquire this land?"
I let out the air in my mouth and then knocked on the table, invoking more fear in them.
"How am I sure the humans will sneer off this land because from the location, it's close to the border with humans?"
