Chapter 310

Chapter 310
Freya

I stumbled out of Flynn's ICU room, my legs barely keeping me upright. The moment the door clicked shut behind me, everything I'd been holding back crashed down on me like a tidal wave. My hands shook as I pressed my back against the cold hospital wall, sliding down until I hit the floor.

"It's my fault," I whispered, the words tearing from my throat. "It's all my fault. I should have protected him better."

The guilt was suffocating. Flynn lying there, unable to feel his legs, asking me if he'd ever walk again—the image burned behind my eyelids. I'd promised him safety when I brought him into my world, and I'd failed. The one person I'd sworn to keep safe from all the darkness surrounding my life, and he'd been hurt because of me.

"Freya." Jackson's voice was gentle as he approached. "This isn't your fault."

I looked up at him through blurred vision. "He was targeted because of me. Because I made enemies—"

"Stop." Jackson crouched down beside me, his hand settling on my shoulder with the lightest touch. "Flynn was hurt because someone made a deliberate choice to harm an innocent boy. That's on them, not you."

I shook my head fiercely. "I should have seen it coming. I should have—"

Jackson continued, "You're not omniscient, Freya. You can't predict every move your enemies will make. But you know what you can do? You can find Dr. Phillip and save Flynn's leg. That's what matters now."

I felt my wolf surge forward, felt my eyes shift to that familiar golden glow. The helplessness began transforming into something sharper, more dangerous.

"You're right," I said, "I will find Dr. Phillip. I will save my brother. And then I will find whoever did this and make them pay."

My phone buzzed with an incoming text. Lucas's name flashed across the screen, and I opened it immediately.

[We found him. The real perpetrator. Come to Morgan Group now.]

I stared at the message, feeling my pulse quicken. "Lucas found something."

"Go," Jackson said immediately. "I'll stay with Flynn and monitor his condition. If anything changes—"

"You'll call me immediately," I finished, already pushing myself to my feet. The weakness was gone, replaced by a cold, calculating fury that made my wolf pace restlessly beneath my skin.

Twenty minutes later, I was striding through the lobby of Morgan Group, my heels clicking against the marble with sharp precision. The elevator couldn't move fast enough. Every second that passed was another second Flynn lay paralyzed, another second the real culprit thought they'd gotten away with it.

Lucas was waiting in his office when I arrived, his expression grim but focused. The moment I saw him, some of the tension in my shoulders eased. He was my anchor in all this chaos, my partner in everything that mattered.

"Show me," I said without preamble.

He gestured to his laptop screen, where security footage was paused on a frame showing the Victory Academy auditorium. "This is from three hours before Flynn's speech began."

I watched as a maintenance worker approached the decorative ceiling fixture, his movements deliberate and calculated. He wasn't fixing anything—he was sabotaging it, loosening the supports just enough to cause a delayed collapse.

"He confessed," Lucas said grimly. "Claims he was hired by a female Beta who paid him cash. The description points to Selina."

"Selina?" I almost blurted out.

"Hasn't she been missing for a long time? Why would she suddenly appear? And why would she target Flynn?"

The person Selina hated most should be Bella and me. If she wanted revenge, she should have come after me first. Why would she go after Flynn first?

Lucas shared the same confusion I had. All of this could probably only be clarified after finding Selina.

Lucas pulled up another location tracker.

He said, "This is Selina's current location. A few hours ago, she appeared here, so I've already sent people to find her. It won't be long before they bring Selina back."

I nodded and waited patiently with Lucas.

About half an hour later, Lucas's people brought Selina in under escort.

Flynn had been so severely injured because of Selina—how could I possibly stay calm?

I stood up, walked to Selina, and grabbed her by the throat, my sharp nails almost cutting through her blood vessels. "Why did you hurt Flynn? Who exactly instructed you to do this?"

Selina struggled constantly, her face full of panic.

She said, "Freya, how could it be you?!"

"Why wouldn't it be me?" I sneered. "If you hadn't brought this upon yourself, how could you have been caught by me? Selina, I'm giving you ten seconds to think. If after ten seconds you can't give me a satisfactory answer, I'll break one of your hands!"

Selina's eyes widened, the fear in them becoming even more obvious. She shouted with a trembling voice. "You're crazy! I don't know anything. You've got the wrong person!"

I continued, "Someone confessed that you instructed him to tamper with the chandelier at Flynn's school. At this point, what else do you have to say? Do I have to bring that person here to confront you face to face before you'll tell the truth?"

Selina remained completely confused.

She shouted, "I really don't know what you're talking about. I don't know any school employees either. You've got it wrong!"

"I've been imprisoned in a basement before. How could I possibly conspire with someone to harm you?"

I froze. I turned back, glanced at Lucas, and after exchanging a look with him, I looked at Selina again.

I asked, "You were imprisoned in a basement before?"

Selina said with a flushed face, "That's right! A woman kidnapped me and kept me trapped in a basement until today when she finally let me out! Who knew that when I was planning to find that bitch Bella for revenge, I'd be caught by you instead!"

"Freya, you're really something. I've been missing for so long, and you can still find me! You're so good to Bella, always thinking about standing up for her!"

My brow furrowed even tighter. There was definitely something wrong with this situation.

If Selina had been imprisoned by someone all along, then the person who hurt Flynn couldn't possibly be her. And thinking about it carefully, Selina's appearance today was too much of a coincidence.

I had just sent people to investigate, and Selina's whereabouts appeared. Also, if someone really had imprisoned her, why did the person who imprisoned her choose to release her today specifically?

It suddenly dawned on me, and the pressure of my fingertips subtly intensified once more.

I pressed, "What's the name of the woman who imprisoned you?"

"I don't know her name either. I only know she seems to hate you very much. She said that someday I would definitely have a chance to get revenge on you. I originally thought it would take a very long time, but who knew she would let me out today!"

"You really have a lot of enemies. Even if you catch me, you'll still die at the hands of others in the future!" Selina cursed angrily.

Now I finally understood the situation. Selina was simply a scapegoat, and the person who really attacked Flynn must be connected to the woman who imprisoned her.

I narrowed my eyes and spoke again. "Do you remember her physical characteristics?"

Selina sneered. "Of course I remember, but why should I tell you? You've made me into this state. If I still tell you clues, wouldn't that make me too stupid!"
