The plan

Lying sprawled on the floor, Alex's breaths came in ragged gasps, each inhale a struggle against the overwhelming exhaustion that gripped him. The echoes of their intense spar with Dan reverberated in the dimly lit dojo. The fine line between exertion and the precipice of pushing too far lingered in his consciousness, the stark reality of physical limitations asserting its presence.

In stark contrast, Dan assumed a meditative pose on the floor, an embodiment of calm amidst the lingering energy of their battle. His eyes remained closed, betraying no sign of fatigue, yet small beads of sweat adorned his face – subtle, but a testament to the energy he had invested in both guiding and challenging Alex.

The echoes of their physical exchange were not confined to the dojo's walls. They reverberated in the lessons imparted, in the intricate dance of strategy and technique. Throughout the spar, Dan became a mentor, offering valuable insights and nuanced pointers. It was more than a clash of fists; it was a masterclass in martial arts, where each move held the potential for growth and refinement.

The gauntlet, a silent witness to the rigors of combat, still adorned Alex's hand. Its weight was a constant reminder of the newfound power he now wielded. The weapon resonated with his preferred fighting style, allowing him to capitalize on his physical prowess with close-quarter, powerful strikes. Yet, in its efficiency lay a double-edged sword, demanding a delicate balance between offense and defense.

As the minutes ticked by in the aftermath of their training, Alex found the strength to rise. The gauntlet gleamed in the subdued light, reflecting the toll of their encounter. His gaze shifted toward Dan, who remained in deep meditation, a symbol of unwavering discipline. The dojo, witness to their physical and spiritual engagement, held an air of reverence as they stood at the intersection of exhaustion and enlightenment.

"I think I'll be on my way," Alex announced, preparing to leave the training session. The toll of the intense sparring with Dan lingered in the air, and Alex felt the weight of the bruises and pain from the rigorous session. Dan simply nodded in acknowledgment as Alex made his exit.

As Alex departed, Dan found himself contemplating the peculiar phenomena he observed during their bouts. Each time Alex struck and Dan countered, there was a subtle but tangible rise in Alex's aura. It radiated heat, a powerful force akin to a wildfire threatening to consume anything in its path.

"That's a powerful aura bottled up," Dan mused to himself. Typing on his watch, he summoned a picture of Alex accompanied by relevant information. Scrutinizing the details, he cross-referenced them with what Alex had shared – the tragic loss of his parents, his upbringing under his uncle, and his current rank of 1. Satisfied, Dan continued to ponder the enigma that was Alex Red.

"Just who are you, Alex Red?"

Meanwhile, Alex made his way back to his room, feeling the fatigue settling into his muscles. The solitude of his room welcomed him as he collapsed onto his bed, succumbing to the inevitable call of sleep. Unaware of the comings and goings of his roommates, Zac and Luis, he drifted into a deep slumber, leaving the echoes of the intense training session behind.

"By the looks of it, he looks tired," Luis observed, taking note of Alex's weary state.

"Yeah," Zac agreed, his gaze lingering on Alex. Unbeknownst to his roommates, Zac couldn't shake the memory of the night when Alex had returned with blood-soaked clothes. The unspoken concern lingered, prompting him to decide to inquire about it tomorrow.

With a sigh, Zac settled onto his bed, ready to embrace the realm of dreams.

When Alex woke, a familiar message greeted him:

\[Daily quest: Eat 10kg of meat\]

\[Reward: 10Exp\]

The quest, absent for a while, reappeared, perhaps triggered by the intensity of the previous day's training. Alex, recognizing the need to replenish his fatigued body, swiftly rose from his bed and went to freshen up.

In the cafeteria, the aroma of cooked meats surrounded him as he ordered his customary pile of protein. The quest to devour 10kg of meat seemed like a welcomed routine, a daily ritual to fuel his strength.

While Alex was engrossed in consuming his meal, Zac and Luis joined him at the table, placing their own plates of food. The camaraderie of the morning meal was a comforting routine, an unspoken bond woven through shared quests and the unexplored mysteries each day held.

"Dude, you came here without us," Zac exclaimed, slightly taken aback.

"Sorry, I was in a hurry," Alex replied casually, not bothering to look up from the sizable piece of meat he was devouring.

Zac, intrigued by Alex's rushed demeanor, raised an eyebrow. "Why were you in a hurry?"

"I have extra classes with the martial arts teacher," Alex revealed, his attention fixed solely on the delicious meat in front of him.

"What? He just agreed?" Zac asked, genuine surprise coloring his tone. The idea of a teacher, especially a martial arts instructor, willingly providing personal classes to a rank 1 student seemed unprecedented.

"Yeah, he did," Alex confirmed, still not bothering to meet Zac's gaze. The unusual nature of the agreement lingered in the air, defying the conventional norms of teacher-student interactions in the academy.

Without delving deeper into the matter, Alex resumed his hearty meal. The cafeteria, filled with curious glances, buzzed with speculations. Some students marveled at Alex's voracious appetite, wondering how he could consume such copious amounts of food. Others, less considerate, silently judged, attributing his seemingly insatiable hunger to a presumed lower-class origin.

As Alex continued his feast, the familiar messages appeared:

\[Daily quest completed\]

\[10Exp received\]

\[50/400Exp\]

The daily routine of quests, training, and the unspoken camaraderie of the cafeteria persisted, a backdrop to the mysteries and challenges that each day in the academy brought.

Alex continued eating until he conquered the pile of meat, a feeling of satisfaction accompanying the completion of his daily quest. The notifications indicating his progress were a testament to the growing strength he was cultivating. However, his leveling speed left much to be desired; currently at level three, he possessed two skills, counting his unique transformation ability as one. It was an ability that seemed more like an extension of his being than a conventional skill.

Unlike abilities that offered control or manipulation, Alex's skills were singular in nature. To bridge the gap between himself and higher-ranked ability users, he recognized the need for a broader array of skills.

In the midst of his contemplation, someone approached their table and took a seat. It was Jade, the girl with whom Alex had devised a mysterious plan. Alex, momentarily forgetful of their arrangement, greeted her with a hint of surprise.

"Oh, it's you," Alex acknowledged, looking at Jade who sat across from him.

"Yeah, when I saw you, I thought I'd say hi," Jade replied with a sweet smile. "I hope you didn't forget our plan."

"No, no, I didn't forget," Alex quickly lied, not daring to admit any lapse in memory.

Zac, ever the observant roommate, interjected with enthusiasm. "Yo, Alex, you didn't tell me you had a lady friend." He extended his hand for a handshake. "If you won't introduce us, Alex, I'll introduce myself. Hi, I'm Zac, a friend and roommate of Alex."

Jade reciprocated the handshake and introduced herself. "I'm Jade. We all took the test together, including him," she added, pointing towards Luis.

"Yeah, I remembered," Zac nodded, though his recollection of the test participants was admittedly hazy, with Alex and Luis being the most memorable.

"I think that's enough introduction. Shall we leave, Jade?" Alex suggested, standing up as Jade followed suit, and they exited the cafeteria.

As the two left, Zac's gaze lingered on them. A thought crossed his mind—could Jade be the one bullying Alex? The uncertainty weighed on him as he watched them walk through the cafeteria door.
