Chapter 52
Sarah took a deep breath and strove for calm then told him about how they had been taken from their house. She had just finished feeding the kids when there had been a knock at the door. When she opened the door, the men had forced their way inside and pretty quickly had scooped up her kids that had been playing in the livingroom just off the entry to the house. Once the kids were in the arms of the men, she'd had little choice but to comply with their men. They'd kept them together for the first hour but George had met up with the men that had been holding them and took her daughter. When she'd started to fight them they'd held a gun to her son's head to get her under control. They'd been taken the previous afternoon to a seedy hotel room that had been guarded by a couple guys.
No one talked to her to give her information but she knew when George had taken her daughter that it had something to do with Roger. Then out of no where earlier that afternoon, she was told to gather their things up and that they were going home. She knew that could only mean that Roger had done whatever it was that George had wanted. She glanced nervously at her two children then back to Josiah and gave him a nervous look.
"Please tell me what I'm thinking happened, hasn't. Tell me that Ross is safe." Sarah begged.
"Unfortunately, I can't do that. George was able to get his men to take off with her earlier this afternoon. Roger told her that you had taken the kids and left him and got her to meet up with him and George's men were there waiting for her to step away from Bart." Josiah informed her.
"Oh God." Sarah whispered, her hand covering her mouth in shock and dispair.
"Yes, we're trying to get a plan to get her back. Right now we've got to figure out where they are. I highly doubt he's going to fly with her. She's too far pregnant for it to be safe for her to be in the air as long as she'd have to be to get her far enough away from me. So that means that he's going to have to drive her. That works in our favor. He'll take her to his house in North Carolina, I'm willing to bet. He won't want his connections in Chicago to be aware that he has kidnapped an ally's pregnant wife. In North Carolina he will be able to keep things as quiet as possible." Josiah told her, as he gently placed a hand on her back and led her back to the couch where her children watched them with wide, fearful eyes.
"What are you going to do to get her back?" Sarah asked him as she took the seat on the couch he gestured toward and was immediately climbed on by her daughter.
"Why don't you let me worry about that. I've already got men on the way there to send confirmation back to me. As soon as they see a car go in that looks like Rossalyn could be inside, they're going to call me. I also have men going to Chicago just in case he's dumb enough to go back there. There is also a small chance he'll take her to New York to his vacation house but I doubt he'll take her there, but I'm sending men there as well just in case. In the mean time about once a hour, I'm sending messages to George requesting a meeting. The fact that he has ignored me up to this point just confirms for me that he has her. There has not been a point that he has ignored a message from me since we announced her pregnancy to him." He gave a long sigh. "In the mean time, I'm going to keep you guys here. I'd rather have you here where you have help with them and I can keep you all safe. Roger is being held here but he is Rossalyn's to punish. What she wants when we get her back she gets. That may mean you become a widow. I'm not so sure I wouldn't do that anyway. The man needs put down." Josiah said angrily.
"I keep thinking he'll change and be the man he was when I married him. I don't know what happened to him. He never used to be like this. He would move mountains to keep his family safe. Now it is like he goes out of his way to put us in danger." Sarah sighed in frustration.
"Honey, I'm pretty sure he just became the man he truly was. People can hide who they are for a while. But the truth will come out eventually. I'm just sorry that it all came out like this." Josiah said gently before standing up. "I'm going to show you up to the room we prepared for you and the kids. If there is anything you need from your house let Brad know. He'll make sure you get everything you need."
Once Josiah led Sarah and the kids up the stairs and showed them the room that was directly below his and Rossalyn's bedroom that he'd had set up with two toddler beds next to a full sized bed for Sarah. The room was set up with anything he could think of that she would need to take care of the twins, including toys for them to play with. It had went without saying that he expected her and the kids to stay in the bedroom for the rest of the day. He'd already posted a guard outside the bedroom that's sole responsibility was to make sure if Sarah needed something it would be immediately got for her.
A half hour later, Josiah found himself back in his office with Brad, James, and several other men that worked for him. He paced around the room as they all tried to stay out of his way. It wasn't the biggest office for pacing and made even less ideal by the number of occupants inside. His phone rang and his attention snapped to full alert when he seen George's name on his call ID.
"Where have you taken my wife." Josiah demanded as greeting into the phone.
"She'll be safely kept until our deal has been honored. I was giving you a curtesy call to let you know that she is safe." George informed him.
"Are you going to be safely kept after I find you?" Josiah asked with a threatening tone.
"You're not going to find me, not until I'm ready for you to. By then, I'll have the only insurance of your continued behaving I'll need. I'll be in contact with you once a week to give reports on Rossalyn's health." George told him then quickly disconnected the call.
Josiah looked down at his phone in shock then over at James who had also been listening to the phone call since Josiah had flipped the call over to speaker. They shared a look of perfect understanding as Brad said the words that they thought out loud.
"He's planning on keeping her until the baby is born, isn't he?" Brad asked, his voice almost a whisper.
"I think so. But that is not going to happen." Josiah's voice was sharp as a razor blade as he looked around at the men in the room. "We're going to track him down and take my wife back. He plans on keeping my child? Over my dead body. He's crossed a line here."
"I agree boss. We've got to get her back. That alliance is over once we have her back home safely." Brad said firmly to general words of agreement from the other men.
