Chapter 92 The Last Seal
Amara’s POV
There was only smoke and flames on the battlefield. My heart blazed brighter than ever, but my body trembled. It was this. The time the Goddess had been waiting for me.
Kian and Rowan were standing nearby, staring at me. Their strength was leaking into my hands. Around us, the Hollow Witch's shadows writhed and howled like bloodthirsty wolves.
I raised my arms and started the chant with a shaky but steady voice.
"The moon's light... the stars' truth... bind the shadow, seal the scar..."
Old and strong, the words ascended like music. They were tugging at me from deep inside. My brand glowed like silver fire as it burned hot over my chest.
From the black smoke, Lilith's voice screamed. "No! I won't be bound by you again! I refuse to be confined!"
I gritted my teeth and yelled more loudly, overpowering her cries. "I invoke the Final Seal by the blood of the chosen and by the oath of the Priestesses!"
The earth trembled. Below me, silver lines sliced through the ground like a sacred chain while circles of light swirled. As if the entire planet were holding its breath, the air became heavy.
Rowan yelled, "Amara, it's working! Continue!"
With his blade shining in the moonlight, Kian cut down the shadows that sprang at us. "Don't give up! We'll keep them away!"
I forced the old words out of my mouth and closed my eyes, tears running down my cheeks. Hold the Hollow tight, moon above! Put an end to her curse! Put an end to this darkness once and for all!"
Around me, the ghosts of former Priestesses glistened. Their voices echoed like a thousand bells, joining mine in strength and softness.
"Seal her. Put a seal on her. Put a seal on her.
With her figure flailing in the prison of silver light, Lilith let out a wail. Her wild, desperate eyes were fixed on me. "You think you can rob me of my eternity? I'm not going to bow to you!"
However, I lifted my voice higher, giving the spell everything I had. "You're not going to bow to me. The light will make you bow!"
The circle became more radiant. The seal tightened with a snap. Lilith's shadow was reduced to ash by the chains of light that encircled her body. Her scream was so raw that it rocked the ground.
I nearly stumbled. She screamed out of anguish, not anger. But I stood tall and tightened my fists.
"This is over now."
In one last yell, the enchantment burnt out of me. "THE FINAL SEAL!"
Like a tidal wave, light rushed outward and crashed over the Hollow Witch. Everything was quiet for a single heartbeat.
The globe then burst into silver flames.
The shadows went crazy as soon as the light exploded. As they attempted to breach the seal, shrieking, dark spirits swirled like smoke.
With rage in his voice, Rowan pulled out his blade. "Amara, stay behind me!"
As Kian slashed down a rushing phantom, his eyes blazed gold. "No—remain with her! She needs us both!"
They were hardly audible to me. The chant continued to reverberate in my chest as the moonlight dimly illuminated my body. However, I could sense Lilith's fury tearing at me in an attempt to escape.
With a shriek, the ghosts charged at me. With each blow, Rowan's blade glowed brighter as he slashed them down. "You're not going to touch her!"
Kian was fighting beside me, his actions piercing and unrelenting. "Amara, maintain the seal! We've got you!"
I tightened my jaw, holding on to the luminous air before me as if it were real. "It's almost there.
Lilith's icy, venomous voice screamed in my ear. "Do you believe they can keep you safe forever? Only guys are among them. They'll pass away. However, I will survive.
"No! I screamed and tightened the light's chains. "You won't survive. With me, your darkness is over!"
With a surge of claws and teeth, the spirits pressed closer. As Rowan struck them down, light crackled on his blade. A shadow struck Kian, causing his arm to bleed, but he battled like fire, his voice ferocious.
"Amara, you're not alone! Complete it!"
With my throat raw, I yelled the final words of the seal. "Eternal and true moonlight—bind the Hollow, undo forever!"
The shackles tightened on Lilith as they ignited. Her scream tore through the darkness as her figure fell into smoke.
Rowan split one last spirit in half as he staggered ahead. Blood trickled from Kian's arm as he stood panting, and his chest heaved.
For a second, it seemed like finally there was silence.
Then—
Lilith's shadow lunged as the smoke cleared.
Black fury blazed in her eyes. Blades were not as sharp as her claws.
She was on me before I could get away.
She pressed her hand directly against my side.
Hot, excruciating pain erupted inside of me. I choked on my own cry as I gasped. Rowan called out my name. Kian let out an angry yell.
Lilith's hand spilt my blood, and her face contorted into a crazed smile. "Seal me? Bind me? Then bind with me and die!"
My knees gave way. The light flickered.
Then everything turned red.
