Chapter 57 Still Alive
Amara’s POV
Everything was chilly. It was the kind of cold that seeped into your bones and left you feeling as though nothing mattered anymore, not the kind that came with wind or snow. I felt as though I had no body and was weightless and floating. No discomfort. Not breathing. No pulse.
Was I dead?
When I opened my eyes, all I saw was blackness. Subsequently, I heard a piercing voice.
"Don’t you dare leave us!" Mira said,
She spoke in a powerful, tremulous voice. I sensed her close to me. My hand was being held by someone. Warm. Rough fingers. Shaking.
I said, "Kian," but I wasn't sure whether I had said it out loud.
Mira yelled, "She's losing too much blood!"
When Kian said, "I know!" his voice broke. "Just—just stay with me, Amara. Please! Don’t go. Don’t do this."
To let him know I wasn't giving up, I wanted to grip his hand closer. However, I was slipping. Quick.
All of a sudden, things shifted. In a sense, I was standing. It was more like floating in an endless expanse of white space. Nothing in my immediate vicinity. No earth. No sky. No walls. Only white. And a woman in the midst of it.
She was radiant.
Tall. Elegant. She had long hair that looked like liquid silver. Stars gleamed in her eyes. Before she spoke, I was aware of her name.
Selene.
Her voice was like music as she softly said, "Amara."
My mouth quivered. "Where am I? "
She remarked, "You stand between life and death." "The realm of spirits." "You're still alive. Not quite yet."
I turned to face my hands. Here, I was unhurt. Not a mark. I felt both complete and empty. "I'm exhausted."
"I understand," Selene murmured, taking a step forward. "Most people could never carry as much as you have."
The lump in my throat was swallowed. "Everyone is looking to me for something. To serve as their priestess. Their rescuer. The source of their power. I'm just a girl."
"You are not just that," she whisperLed. "You were always more."
But what if I don't succeed? With tears running down my cheeks, I inquired. "What if I break once more? "
She put her hand on my chest. "Under the moonlight, even broken things shine."
She smiled as I looked up into her bright eyes.
"Return," she said. "The conflict has not ended. Your heart continues to beat. You are still needed by them.
I said, "But I'm not sure if I'm strong enough."
She remarked, "You are." "Not due to magic. but due to your identity."
I shut my eyes.
I then heard Kian's voice once more, hushed and frantic.
"Please… just open your eyes…"
Then Rowan.
"I don’t care if she hates me. I just want her to live."
My hand started to feel warm again. My chest thumped feebly with a heartbeat. The air was filled with Mira's chanting.
I opened my eyes.
The tent roof emerged from the hazy environment around me. Air rushed into my lungs like a tsunami smashing down as I gasped. My chest hurt. My mark was scorched. However, I was still alive.
"She's awake! Mira sobbed.
Kian's face became clear. As he clutched my face, tears were streaming down his cheeks.
He said, "Amara!" instead.
Beside him, Rowan's eyes were wide with relief and disbelief. "Moon above..."
With difficulty, I opened my mouth to speak. "I noticed her... Selene."
Both of them silently looked at me.
I inhaled, "She told me to come back." "I still have a part to play," she remarked.
Mira wiped her eyes and nodded. "After that, we'll make sure you're capable of handling it."
But I knew in my bones what was going to happen. Fighting Lilith wasn't my only purpose.
I was supposed to kill her.
My eyes strayed to the bowl of moon water sitting in the tent's corner. My face was visible in the reflection, and my eyes were suddenly glowing silver. My arm had a mark that glistened like a star. I let out a gasp.
