Chapter 18 (Why Did You Kiss Me)

Chapter 18 (Why Did You Kiss Me)
Callie was standing in front of Grayson's room, feeling anxious.

She was laterally about to share a room with a stranger.

What if Grayson were an abuser? Or worse, a murderer?

"You're nervous," Lily's soft voice spoke behind Callie, startling her.

Callie gasped softly and turned her head, "Lily," she cleared her throat, smiling.

Lily chuckled, "Let me guess... You guys haven't... You know?" She winked.

"Callie blushed, "No, no, we totally have, many times... you're so funny," she laughed, biting her lip nervously.

"We've done what countless times?" Grayson suddenly asked behind Callie.

Callie froze, her eyes widening as she realised that Grayson had heard everything she said to Lily.

"Hi, Baby. Nothing. We were just talking about –"

"Sex. She was saying that you two have done it countless times and she enjoyed every second of it and can't wait to do it tonight. Here is the nightwear that my mother asked me to give you. It's sexy, Grayson will love." Lily was like an unstoppable record, and the more she spoke, the more Callie'd face paled.

Callie stood immobile as Lily pushed an off-white silky night dress into her hands, she couk8even bring herself to blink.

"Goodnight, sister-in-law.  Make lots of babies tonight," Lily smiled and walked away, leaving Callie to face the grand embarrassment she had pet in her wake.

Callie gulped, blinking slowly as she looked down at the nightdress in her hand, and her face paled more as she easily saw her hand through the transparent material.

There was no way she was wearing that in Grayson's presence.

"So, we've had sex countless times? Are you that eager?" Grayson asked, leaning by the side of the door with his arms folded.

Callie sighed, "I'm tired, I need to sleep. After all, I'm starting work as your secretary tomorrow, so I need all the rest I can get." She said, avoiding his gaze.

"Come in," Grayson stepped away from the door, allowing them in.

Callie walked into he room, her eyes immediately going to the large bed.

She gulped and looked away, searching for a chair or a sofa where she could sleep instead of the bed.

She heard the door close behind her and her heart skipped a bit. She was alone with a man.

"So, answer my question, Callie. Why did you tell her we have done it countless times when we haven't? Do you want to have sex with me?" His couch ran right behind her, his grey eyes raking her entire body.

Callie sighed and glanced around, "No, I do not want to have sex with you, Grayson. Would have precereex ne to tell her that we're strangers who just met three days ago and having sex would be really weird especially since this is a fake –"

"Enough, keep your voice down," Grayson interrupted, raising his hand in front of her.

"I thought so," Callie rolled her eyes and walked away, going over to the chairs she saw in the corner.

"I'll sleep right here. Don't want to make you uncomfortable in your bed," She placed the transparent nightdress on the desk behind her and lowered herself on one of the chairs.

"Suit yourself," Gray replied and walked over to the bed, sitting on the side.

He watched Callie as she shifted the chair closer to the desk, positioning it in a way she would be able to lay her head on the desk.

He couldn't help thinking about how perfect she had acted at the dining table.

He was surprised and impressed by her and his respect for her grew just a bit.

She wasn't those girls who sat and waited for you to defend them while acting all cute and weak. It made him wonder just how her childhood must have been, she seemed like someone who must have gone through hardship

"Goodnight, when you're done staring, you can go to bed," Callie said as she lowered her head onto her arms on the desk.

Grayson frowned, "You're really going to sleep there?" He asked, staring at her uncomfortably curved body.

"Yes," She answered without lifting her head.

Grayson was quiet for a while and Callie thought he'd given up on questioning her until she suddenly heard the other chair being dragged toward her been dragged across the floor.

She snapped her eyes open and lifted her head to stare at Grayson, who was lowering himself beside her.

Callie blinked in confusion, staring at Grayson's unreadable eyes.

"What are you doing?" She asked apprehensively.

Grayson was quiet for a few more seconds before he asked, "Why did you do it?" He questioned.

Callie sighed, "Grayson, I wasn't lying when I told you I was tired. But if you really want me to answer your questions, then please, be more specific." She stated, running her tired eyes.

Grayson nodded, patting himself on the back for making the right decision about marrying Callie.

She didn't seem at all interested in him and where other girls would look for an opportunity to have conversations with him, she was urging him to hurry and get it over with.

Perhaps he was thinking too much into it, Callie might not have any ulterior motives, she might just be interested in her own part of the deal which was his money.

"Why did you kiss me –"

"I didn't kiss you, Grayson. What on earth are you talking about?" She questioned in disbelief.

"At the dining, you kissed my cheek," Grayson stated with a straight face, his eyes observing Callie's reddening ears.

Callie furrowed her brows, "Bro, what is wrong with you? We were pretending. I had to make it look real. I can't let us break up yet, I need my money by the end of our bargain." She stated in a business-like tone.

Grayson frowned, suddenly feeling uncomfortable with her detached tone.

"Is that all the questions you have? I really need to sleep." She said, yawning.

"Why do you need so much money? Is your family in debt?" Grayson continued.

He wanted to know the primary reason that drove Callie to marry him since she was obviously interested in his money.

Callie chucked, "Not your business, Mr. CEO." She smiled, "That would be crossing the lines. No asking personal questions, remember?" She tilted her head to stare at his face.

"You're my wife, shouldn't be hiding things from me," Grayson stated sternly.
