Chapter 17(Wine, Lies & Wolves)
Chapter 17(Wine, Lies & Wolves)
"Hey, Omar, what do you think about Grayson's wife? She's a stunner, right?" Lily asked, chewing her food and staring expectantly at Omar.
Omar lifted his face and gazed at Callie, unblinking.
"I think she's fascinating... the kind of girl I might fall in love with... if I met her first," Omar smirked.
Callie stiffened, glancing briefly at Mrs. Wolfe then back at Omar. She could feel Grayson's unreadable gaze on her as if she'd wronged him.
"Here, I'll feed you," Callie scooped the food and took her spoon to Grayson's mouth.
It was safer to divert the attention back to them as a loving couple than to let Omar dominate the table with his sly intentions.
Grayson reluctantly opened his mouth and took the food from Callie's spoon, forcing a smile and a polite nod as he chewed the food.
"You know," Lily gently moved her chair closer to Callie, "I never thought my brother would be so in love." She whispered.
Callie smiled, glancing at Grayson, "Love can happen to anyone -"
"Are you sure it's love? Or is he going to leave you like his ex-fiance, Rosette?" Omar smirked, watching the anger consume Grayson's entire form.
Callie paused, frowning slightly as she heard the new information from Omar. However, she sensed Grayson's body tense beside her and decided to ignore the information. Rather, she placed a comforting hand on Grayson's lap and kissed his cheek.
"Relax," she whispered into his ear before facing Omar, "It doesn't matter if Grayson has been married and divorced a hundred times. What matters is now, with me, right, honey?" She asked a shocked Grayson beside her.
Grayson sighed softly, placing his hand over hers on his thigh, "Of course, my love." He gave her a smile that threatened to blind her and shake her heart.
Callie gave a nervous laugh and drew back to the safety of her chair. A charming Grayson was far more dangerous than a mean one. They needed to cut down on this fake PDA. She was grieving, uncomfortable with it, and it hadn't even been a full day.
"Now, that is a good answer, Callie. I apologise for Omar's... intrusion. He's not quite used to getting used to people, but you'll grow on him soon. Right, Omar?" Mrs. Wolfe asked her nephew, narrowing her eyes at him.
Omar cleared his throat, shifting uncomfortably, "Yes, Aunt. I was just looking out for Callie-"
"You don't have to look out for my wife, Omar. Or, do you have some intentions toward her?" Grayson asked, arching a dark brow.
Lily gasped, "Grayson, don't say that. Omar would never." She shook her head at her brother, frowning.
"It's alright, Lily. My dear cousin always sees me as a competition, even with his wife," Omar said slowly, giving Callie a sly smile.
"Can you shut up? Or does a grown man like you have a problem with his self-esteem? Do you feel small and unseen when you're not making noise? If no, then shut your wide mouth and eat your damn, fucking food," Calkie glared at Omar.
"Excuse my language, Mother," Callie smiled sweetly at Mrs. Wolfe, who just shrugged and continued with her meal.
"Wow..." Grayson murmured under his breath, his wife was really a protector. It's not like he needed saving but it kinda felt nice to sit back and watch Omar's ass handed to him by someone else.
"I think he'll be quiet now," Grayson said, chuckling.
He carried the glass of wine and raised it to Callie's lips.
Callie hesitated, she doesn't drink. But everyone was watching already, she couldn't give them a reason to suspect them.
She leaned in and sipped the wine, and the moment the harsh liquid touched her throat, it burned her so bad that she balled her fists under the table to keep from sticking her tongue out and fanning it with her hands.
Grayson's gaze lingered on her flushed ears and the delicate column of her throat as she choked down the wine. She was fire and fragility all at once, and damn if it didn't undo something in him.
Immediately, he pulled a glass of water over and raised it to her lips.
"Here, drink," He spoke quietly.
Callue didn't think twice and fixed her lips on the glass, sipping on the cool liquid that soothed her to guess and throat.
"Thank you," She sighed, relief washing over her.
"We'll be going now, Mother, we have work to do tomorrow," Grayson said and gently pulled Callie up beside him, wrapping his hands around her waist.
Callie smiled at Mrs. Wolfe, "Yes, mother. We have a few projects that need our attention." She nodded.
"Oh, please. There's no way you're leaving today. Stay, spend the night here. Don't worry, Grayson's room is quite far away from everyone else's, we won't get to hear your -"
"Mother," Callie cleared her throat, shaking her head at the older woman.
Grayson turned to Callie and found her cheeks reddening. He smirked, noting that Callie was easily flustered.
"Come on, Mother, do not tease her like that," Grayson said, chuckling.
Mrs. Wolfe sighed, "Fine, I'm sorry, Callie, I just want grandchildren-"
"I want to be an Aunt, too. A twin's Aunt. I can't wait for those little cuties to run all over the house. Oh, how I'll spoil them rotten," Lily squealed beside Callie.
"Lily," Callie whispered between clenched teeth, shaking her head at the excited lady.
"Then maybe you have your own children if you want them that much. Hurry up and get married," Mrs. Wolfe attacked her daughter.
Lily frowned, "It's not the same, mother. Nieces and nephews are so adorable," Lily blinked dreamily.
"Not all nephews are adorable," Mrs. Wolfe glanced at Omar, who had gone quiet after getting verbally slashed by Callie.
"Ah, excuse me, I need to take this call," Callie suddenly pulled her phone from her pocket and nodded politely before hurrying away from the dramatic dining room.
