Chapter 68
Nerissa’s P.O.V
“So, did you get anywhere with Carlton?” Elena asked, walking around the room slowly while stroking her bump thoughtfully. “How did he take the news of Rosa?”
“You were right,” I admitted finally after a long pause. “Carlton is just too far gone down the path of hatred. He didn’t take the news well. He even threw us out!”
“So what did the prick say?” Brooke interrupted in disgust. “Nothing pleasant I bet. Nothing ever good comes out of his mouth!”
“That I am not his mother anymore and that Rosa is a whore and not his sister,” I revealed, glancing at Rosa sadly. “That’s not all. There have been major changes within his army.”
“Such as?” Elena spat, looking at me worriedly. “What has he done? You need to tell us! We will have to let Kieran know!”
“No! we can’t tell Kieran yet until he gets home. He needs a clear head while meeting the territories. Anyway, Carlton has got rid of all his horses, killed for their meat to feed his shapeshifter army and he has ridden his army of humans!” I continued, rubbing my temples slowly. “Even his own guards doubt that Carlton can ever change! They all fear him and what his next move will be!”
“That’s not the worst of it,” Rosa whispered, a look of disgust growing on her face. “Carlton has turned the place into a brothel. When we arrived, there were around thirty naked women all in various sexual poses and activities with one another. I feel disgusted witnessing it!”
“That wouldn’t surprise me,” Brooke scoffed loudly. “Carlton’s well known for being sex mad. Was Davina there?”
“Yes, she was there. Dressed like some common tart!” Rosa chuckled while crinkling her nose up in disgust. “He thought I was some common prostitute that was going to be gifted to him by mother.”
“Yes, well, I soon put him in his place,” I growled angrily. “He told me what his plan is, and I pray, we need to tread carefully!”
“Well we know that he wants Elena and her baby dead,” Hollie hissed angrily as she glanced at Elena sympathetically. “What else could he want?”
“He wants his own brother dead too,” I sighed sadly as I stared out of the window. “By the sounds of it, Carlton’s planning on destroying everything and everyone that stands for Kieran and the Vaewolfe is going to be his weapon to help him achieve that!”
“We need to do some research on the Vaewolfe Hybrids,” Hollie growled knowledgeably while biting her lip in thought. “Everything has a weakness. Ours is silver and wolfsbane, so we just need to find out what their weakness is. Once we find it, we can use that knowledge to our advantage and have the Vaewolfe destroyed.”
“Where are we going to find out such information?” Brooke scoffed gently, placing her hand gently on Hollie’s arm. “No offence but we don’t tend to pry too much on banned hybrids. Not much is known about them!”
“I think I saw an old book in the library,” Hollie nodded sweetly, gazing at Brooke shyly. “I spend a lot of time in there as I love to get lost in books. I think the book was called ‘The Moon Goddesses’ Lost and Forgotten Shapeshifters.’ There should be something in there about werewolf-vampire hybrids.”
“It’s worth a try!” Elena agreed, who was listening thoughtfully. “You go and find out what information you can find and come back to me. Brooke, you go with her. Two eyes are better than one!”
“I shall go and ready the army and let them know that there could be a possible attack. No harm in training and being prepared!” Rosa informed loudly before nodding curtly and marching out of the room and sight.
“And what about you?” Elena sighed, looking at me sadly as if she was waiting for me to give her the answers. “What is your plan of action?”
“The wedding is three days away. The cakes aren’t going to make themselves; the dress isn’t going to be made by itself and the palace won’t decorate itself,” I grimaced as I tried to remember what else I had to do. “Kieran will be back soon and you two will be married and you will be Queen! But while I am busying myself with the staff, you need to rest!”
Standing up, I beckoned Elena over and enveloped her in a long, motherly hug. The poor girl didn’t have anyone else, and I was damn sure that no one was going to hurt her. After all, she was going to be my new daughter!
