Chapter 132 Plans
Chapter 132 Plans
After my boys were rescued, our daughter was born, and it came to light that Makar was related to the Yartsev family, almost a month passed.
Tonight is New Year’s Eve, and we’re celebrating it all together in Oleg’s house.
And “all together” truly means all together — us with the kids, Nazar, and Makar with his family as well. Valentina’s daughter and her husband are supposed to come too, along with my parents.
A purely family holiday — and an enormous swarm of children!
But the master of the house doesn’t mind it at all. Quite the opposite: like a proud overseer and ruler of an entire kindergarten, he watches the sudden baby boom in his home with contentment and joy.
And who wouldn’t? Two pairs of mischievous twins and a tiny princess on top of that! A very proud grandfather.
Could he ever have imagined — back in April — that by the end of the year he would gain five biological grandchildren, a beloved wife, and another son? Hardly.
Of course, Mr. Yartsev’s relationship with Makar is far from perfect. There’s stubborn, unbending Yartsev blood running through the brunette as well! As they say, when a scythe meets a stone. But our grandfather isn’t giving up. And tonight’s New Year’s celebration is practically their first real step toward building a connection.
Dasha and I talk just as we used to — actually even more now. She knew who I was from the very beginning and could hardly believe how fate arranged for us to end up in the same hospital ward. She knew about who Makar truly was almost from the start. Surprisingly, they have no secrets between them — absolute trust. Dasha told me many things that helped me better understand her husband as a person.
It turns out that a long time ago, Oleg and Svetlana dated, and she loved him deeply — which is more than can be said about him. Yartsev Sr. was in love with the girlfriend of his best friend, Nikolai Koshev — Varvara.
I think he was with Svetlana simply so he wouldn’t be alone. Out of despair, probably, because Nikolai and Varvara were already preparing for their wedding.
But it happened that Nikolai wasn’t faithful to his fiancée, and Varvara caught him cheating. And now, thinking back on it, I wouldn’t even rule out the possibility that Yartsev helped that happen — maybe he arranged for that girl to show up. But the fact remains: if Nikolai had been a decent man, he wouldn’t have jumped into someone else’s underwear. That part can’t be staged — the final choice was his alone.
Naturally, Oleg seized the moment. Dropping Svetlana instantly, he began comforting Varvara — and his efforts paid off. She developed feelings in return, and soon after they married, had children, and lived happily until Kirill’s mother passed.
At the time they broke up, Svetlana turned out to be pregnant.
But whether it was pride, spite, or perhaps Oleg really did refuse to hear her out — the fact of the pregnancy was kept secret.
Dasha told me that according to Kirill’s stories, he wasn’t even surprised to learn that his mother had once wanted an abortion. His childhood had been awful — soaked with constant criticism and dissatisfaction from her. She often scolded him, forgot him at kindergarten, or simply forgot to feed him. Bruises weren’t rare either.
For all the failures in her life, she blamed Yartsev and her son. And she took that poison out on the child. Maybe her illness had already begun back then — or maybe it was always there, worsening year by year.
Once, during an acute episode of her condition, she grabbed a knife and cut off her son’s eyebrow mole — because it reminded her too much of Oleg.
He was only seven at the time…
Hearing this made my skin crawl, and tears blurred my eyes.
How much this man had to endure from the very beginning of his life…
Makar grew up surrounded by constant negativity and accusations. No wonder he started blaming his father for everything as well. His mother hammered those ideas so precisely and persistently into his impressionable, traumatized child’s mind that he had no reason not to believe her.
They planned revenge together — for a long time, stubbornly.
They wanted to find pressure points on the man, which is why Makar got a job at the Yartsev company. Only Makar thought they would target his father’s business or finances, while Svetlana had very different, far more radical intentions. She staged Varvara’s accident, and even her own son had no idea.
