Chapter 127 Solomia

Chapter 127 Solomia
Kirill Yartsev:

When my secretary, Lidia, burst into my office with her face twisted in fear and announced that we’d received an email saying the building had been mined, I was genuinely surprised. We’d never dealt with anything like this before.
We’re not a government institution people threaten by anonymous messages, nor a school someone tries to scare just to get classes canceled.
For some reason, I was certain the message was fake—but checking everything was absolutely necessary. Calling Mikhail, I watched him start working right there in my office, summoning his subordinates and giving out orders. A large portion of the staff was involved, along with the police and K-9 specialists.
They started with the offices on our floor. Those were the easiest to verify. There’s a special code panel at the entrance; when the door opens, it sends a notification directly to my phone. The door had only opened this morning when Lidia arrived, which meant that overnight no one could have accessed this floor without us knowing.
So the locked rooms weren’t checked…
…And that was a mistake.
Because in one of those rooms, my dearly beloved wife had decided to work, of all times!
Of course, I’m always happy to see my golden-haired girl—but not in a situation like this. Not when I’m worried about the safety of my employees, and one of the main meanings of my life turns out to be not entirely safe either.
Mikhail’s guys kept calling in from every floor, reporting that everything was clean. If this was some kind of prank, I couldn’t understand the purpose. Production processes weren’t affected at all—so what was the point?
As I was thinking about that, I noticed Vicky grow increasingly anxious, trying to call someone over and over.
“Vicky, what’s wrong?”
“I can’t reach Marina.”
“Why do you need Marina?”
“She came over today, and Viktor proposed to her,” I could see she was beginning to panic, her speech becoming uneven. “And we came here together, and she offered to walk the boys in the park…”
I looked at Misha, and he understood me without a word. He immediately called her personal security—security she didn’t even know existed. Since day one, she’d had men assigned to her, following at a discreet distance.
But now I saw Misha start to get angry when he couldn’t reach someone—and I didn’t like the implications one bit.
“Seryoga! Why the hell isn’t Max answering?!” Mikhail barked into the phone. “I called in everyone else—not YOU! You’re supposed to stay on personal duty at all times! Max was left there alone?!”
Everything I heard made me furious—and worried.
And then, as if to confirm our worst fears, Vicky finally reached Marina… but instead of relief, her face went deadly pale.
“And the children… where are the children?!” she screamed in hysteria, and I quickly snatched the phone from her hands.
“There were no children brought in with the young woman…”
That answer struck terror into me as well—but I couldn’t afford to show it.
She was in shock—panicking—and in her condition that was absolutely forbidden.
Handing the phone off to Misha, I barely managed to catch my wife as she collapsed into a faint.
Fear. This—this was the moment I truly experienced the worst fright of my entire life.
Not only were my sons God knows where, but my pregnant wife was barely breathing in my arms.
I tried to bring her back to consciousness—but it was useless. She was ghostly pale, and her stomach had become unnaturally hard.
“Vicky! My girl—” I panicked, laying my wife onto the small couch, not knowing how to help her.
“The hospital is nearby,” Mikhail stepped in. “I’m calling an emergency team for Vicky. I think she could go into labor any minute.”
He had assessed her condition instantly—and I had no reason to doubt him. He’d accompanied his Irina through labor twice.
And me?
I didn’t even know Vicky had gotten pregnant from me… And now my boys are somewhere out there, with who knows whom…
Someone slapped me sharply across the cheek—firmly enough that the world snapped back into focus.
