Chapter 119 A Poisonous Conversation...
Today, Incorpmedyar is celebrating its anniversary at one of the best restaurants in the capital, inviting its closest partners and associates. A huge crowd has gathered, and everyone is trying to outdo each other—showing off their expensive outfits, exquisite accessories, and… the charms of their accompanying women.
To be honest, even though this is the Yartsev family’s celebration, I still felt a little out of place. Kirill stayed close beside me the whole time, and Nazar lingered nearby as well. We left the kids with Alexandra and Mikhail, just in case. Life is unpredictable, and it’s important to have someone who can help—or drive somewhere—if anything happens.
I noticed that throughout the evening, some woman kept hovering around our grandpa. She smiled too widely and practically stared into Oleg mouth as he spoke.
“Who is that?” I asked my husband, eyeing the beauty closely. “She seems a bit too friendly.”
“Well, let’s put it this way…” Kirill gave me a meaningful look. “You do understand that our father is still a perfectly capable man with… natural needs.”
“Ugh!” I grimaced, imagining those “needs.” “And this girl…”
“Oh, trust me,” Kirill chuckled, pulling me closer so he could whisper intimately. “Father probably doesn’t even remember her name. I think tonight will be her last evening in his company. See? He’s not happy.”
He tilted his head toward the odd couple, and indeed—I noticed Yartsev Sr. was visibly irritated, glancing toward the restaurant doors every now and then.
“She’s way too obviously interested in him, and she’s being pushy. Dad hates that.”
“Well, apparently he doesn’t value decent women either,” I muttered irritably. “What exactly did he expect, surrounding himself with weekend girls? And girls half his age, at that!”
“Hey, don’t get mad,” my husband laughed, hugging me and pressing a kiss behind my ear. “Valentina appeals to me too—as a woman for my father. But he has to figure it out on his own.”
“You Yartsevs are complicated people!” I sighed, wrapping my arms around him and resting my head on his shoulder.
“Tired?” he asked softly, holding me carefully by the waist.
“A little,” I admitted under my breath. “And besides… this tiny little splinter decided to sit on my bladder again.”
Kirill gently cupped my belly and stroked it. It was so sweet, intimate—so very family-like. He walked me to the restrooms, where I ducked into the nearest stall right away.
After taking care of everything, I washed my hands and stepped out—only to bump straight into Aisha and some girl.
“Oh—sorry, hi,” I said, smiling awkwardly, but the girl seemed to have forgotten where she was even going. She just stared at me strangely. Glancing over my shoulder, I saw Kirill talking with his father and a few other men a short distance away. “I’ve been pretty clumsy lately.”
“It shows,” the brunette sniffed, and I blinked, stunned by her tone.
“And this… this is Kirill’s wife?” the second girl asked Aisha mockingly, as if I wasn’t standing right there. She brazenly scanned me from head to toe. “And he swore up and down he wasn’t the relationship type! And here he is—with a whole family already!”
“Well, as it turns out,” Aisha answered with a poisonous smile, “catching a man like him doesn’t require any special secret. The recipe is as old as time: just spread your legs at the right moment. Some women are meant to stay home, pop out babies, while others actually build careers and try to be something worthwhile and respectable.”
The audacity, the rudeness—their shamelessness left me speechless. It stung. It hurt to hear myself reduced to nothing more than a walking incubator.
“Don’t worry, Aisha,” chimed in the second girl again. “Men like Kirill never stay with one woman for long. They’re predators by nature, and eventually they look for a worthy match—someone who can talk about things other than diapers and baby messes. I’d bet anything he won’t last with this Yartseva until the due date.”
She snickered nastily. “He’ll definitely find himself someone more… interesting.”
I swallowed hard and looked at my husband. He truly was stunning, standing out in the crowd with that confidence and effortless dominance.
As if sensing my gaze, Kirill glanced over at me, smiling warmly and giving me a playful wink. I couldn’t help smiling back, butterflies fluttering wildly inside me.
“You know what, girls?” I said, looking at the venomous snakes with clear superiority. They leaned in, expecting something dramatic.
“Why don’t you both go fuck yourselves?”
