Chapter 11 Grandmother's Relics Destroyed

Chapter 11 Grandmother's Relics Destroyed

Her blood felt like it had frozen solid in that very moment.

The suspicion in Alex's eyes pierced her heart deeply.

She opened her mouth, wanting to explain.

But countless words reached her lips, only to turn into cold silence.

"Why aren't you saying anything?" Alex stepped forward, his tall and imposing figure creating intense pressure, his tone even colder. "Emily, I warned you long ago, didn't I? Just stay in your place and don't..."

"Alex!" A sharp rebuke suddenly rang out.

Margaret came out of the room leaning on her cane, her face full of anger after having just recovered a bit. She immediately pulled Emily behind her.

"You bastard, accusing Emmie without knowing the facts!"

"It was clearly that Grace stirring up trouble herself, crying and playing the victim! What could Emmie possibly do to her? Tell me!"

The old lady was so angry her chest heaved, and she struck her cane heavily on the floor.

"She suffered such grievances today, almost fainted. The doctor said she can't handle any stress right now."

He looked at Emily.

This woman was acting recklessly, relying on Grandma's support!

Margaret glared at him coldly. "Do you even know right from wrong?"

"Emmie has been with you for three years. Don't you know what kind of person she is? But that Grace, full of schemes, has you completely fooled!"

"If you ask me, that shameless woman should be thrown out!"

"Grandma!" Alex's tone carried a hint of impatience. "Now's not the time for this. Grace is still lying in the hospital, very weak."

"Even so, she's still making excuses for Emily!"

Excuses?

Hearing this, Emily didn't even have the strength to laugh.

She'd been with Alex for three years, attentive and caring day and night, never making a single mistake.

Yet in his eyes, she wasn't worth as much as a single word from Grace!

Looking into those cold, sharp eyes, Emily only felt it was utterly ridiculous.

Alex had already decided in his heart that she was the one with ulterior motives, the one who truly disrupted the banquet.

While Grace was the one who suffered terrible injustice.

"Alex, you!" The old lady wanted to defend her again, but Emily gently held her back and shook her head.

She was tired, truly tired.

She was leaving anyway, so there was no need to let these grandparents fight over Grace and her.

But the moment Emily pressed her lips together in silence, Alex's eyes grew even colder. "Ha, why so quiet? Feeling guilty?"

"If that's the case, go back and reflect on yourself! Until you know what you did wrong, don't come out and embarrass yourself!"

"Don't ruin the Baker family's reputation."

Hearing this, Emily looked up, the last trace of warmth in her eyes disappearing completely.

She carefully studied Alex's chiseled face.

So this was the kind of person she had fallen for back then.

Fine, she'd leave. She didn't want to stay anyway.

Emily said. "Fine, I'll go back. But I don't need to reflect. Because I didn't do anything wrong."

With that, she turned and grabbed her bag, then placed her hand on Margaret's.

Meeting her distressed and reluctant gaze, Emily showed a smile. "Grandma, I'll come visit you when I have time."

"Emmie..."

Then she turned and left without a moment's hesitation.

Alex watched her determined retreating figure, his brow furrowing even tighter.

This woman didn't even offer an explanation?

She really was feeling guilty!

So what was wrong with making her go back and reflect?

Margaret watched Emily's retreating figure, stamping her feet in anger. "You brat, you'll regret this!"

"Let's see where you'll go to chase after your wife then!"

Chase?

Grandma must be mistaken.

He might chase after anyone else, but Emily? Never.

This woman simply couldn't leave him.

Even though she pretended to be carefree about the divorce a while ago, wasn't she still proudly playing Mrs. Baker at today's banquet?

So arrogant she dared to give Grace attitude!

Alex loosened his tie. "Grandma, you don't understand Emily. She's not as simple as you think."

This made Margaret even more furious, her chest heaving. She reached out and grabbed an antique from the study and threw it. "Emmie's already left, now you get out too!"

"Don't come back unless you bring Emmie with you!"

Emily walked out of the Baker family mansion alone, the night wind bringing a chill to her body.

She was still wearing her evening gown, having already taken off her jewelry and stuffed it in her bag.

She expertly hailed a taxi and headed straight back to the Baker family villa.

Even if Alex hadn't driven her away, she wouldn't have stayed.

If it weren't for Grandma, she would have left long ago.

An hour later, Emily pushed open the door to the Baker family villa and froze as the lights suddenly clicked on.

Her feet couldn't move forward another step.

She saw several boxes scattered on the floor, with her easel, computer, and personal clothing and items all carelessly thrown out.

They weren't even organized, just piled together in a messy, pathetic heap.

These were all things from her room. How could they be thrown downstairs?

Suddenly, an ominous feeling welled up in her heart.

Emily rushed upstairs!

She flung open her room door, but the scene before her made her blood run cold.

The room that had belonged to her had been completely rearranged.

The wardrobe was emptied, now filled with Grace's clothes instead, countless haute couture dresses.

The tidy vanity was also occupied, covered with various cosmetics.

Emily's pupils contracted. She immediately ran to the bedside table and opened the drawer!

The brocade box she had always kept carefully was now wide open!

And the jade bracelet inside, once emerald green, was now broken in the middle!

Clearly someone had smashed it!

It was the only thing her grandmother had left her, her only memento of her grandmother.

She had always treasured it like a precious jewel, carefully storing it, never letting it leave her side for long.

Her parents were busy when she was young,   so her grandmother raised her, and they were extremely close.

After her grandmother passed away, it took Emily half a year to slowly accept the reality, and she got through it relying on this bracelet.

Whenever she missed her grandmother, she would take it out and look at it.

Now it was broken, completely shattered.

"No, no..."

Emily was heartbroken, tears rolling down her cheeks.

She crouched down trembling, desperately trying to piece the fragments together.

But her fingers were cut by the sharp pieces.

Blood flowed freely, yet she felt no pain.

"No, don't do this to me..."

She murmured, tears falling like broken beads, her heart aching so much she could barely breathe.

Just then, Alex and Grace walked in.

Grace suddenly narrowed her eyes, a triumphant cold smile appearing at the corners of her mouth.

Pain?

Good that it hurt!

The more Emily hurt, the happier she was!

She glanced imperceptibly at Alex, who was taking a company call at the door, a flash of calculation in her eyes, then walked straight upstairs.

Grace slowly walked into the room, looking down at Emily crouched on the floor from above.
