Chapter 9 Looming Duties
Klishei let it all sink in. But thinking of it made her brain overheat.
“You seem tired. Come on, let’s get you inside.” Yeseus stood and offered his hand. Klishei took it and they entered the house again.
At Yeseus’ room, Klishei lay on his bed once again. It made her remember her dream of her parents and the wolves attacking her.
“Yeseus, can you tell me more about the Phoenix Bride?” She asked. Yeseus had just pulled a medical kit out from his drawer.
“Are you sure? You look like you're already overloaded.” He took her temperature. “Yep, you are sick.”
“I’m guessing you can’t heal me with those powers of yours?”
Yeseus chuckled at that. “Unfortunately, yes. I can only heal an anomaly in your body caused by an Entity. I cannot heal you if it's caused naturally. About how I am able to do it, I think that will be for another time. I’m inclined to answer your first question, about who you are.”
Yeseus picked a book from his shelf. It had a thick cover with deep engravings. He helped her in a sitting position and let her back rest in the bed frame.
He opened the book in the middle part where there was a crocheted leaf and a thin braid that served as a bookmark.
“That’s her,” Yeseus pointed to a sketch of a woman in the book in Klishei’s hands.
The lady was clothed in a swirling dress whose ends covered a whole page. At her back was a faint outline of a phoenix, giving an illusion that she outstretched wings. Beneath the sketch were the words written:
THE UNNAMED GODDESS
A deity that appears every 500 years.
Her blood can give rise to another generation of entities.
The appearance of the rose moon is the sign of her manifestation in the human world.
Her dream hit her.
“Klishei? Are you okay?” Yeseus asked, noticing the sudden shift of her expression.
You were born under the crimson moon…
Her mother did say those words one time while she was dusting off their pictures when she was little. She just did not pay attention.
“I’m fine. Please continue.” Klishei reached for the cup and drank the remaining water.
“Point is, the Phoenix Bride chose you to be her vessel. Daevar’s goal is to make you his mate to acquire nourishment and so that you will give birth to a fresh batch of werewolves, something that has not happened for how many decades.”
Klishei coughed, feeling the water surge back to her throat. “So that prick just wants me to become a baby machine?”
Yeseus nodded. “Your power is irresistible. Not only are you the perfect bride, mating with you doubles, even triples, the power of your sex partner.”
Yeseus’ sudden switch of bold words made her embarrassed, their intimate scene flooded her mind. “S-so, that’s what you meant when you said you were recharged when we had sex yesterday. Does that make me your mate?”
Yeseus shook his head lightly. “No. You can only be a werewolf’s mate if you have been marked, a process where your partner will make a permanent link in your body. Usually, it’s through biting the chest area near to your heart. It's as good as being wedded him and you will have to obey everything that he says. Once you defile your mate, your body will suffer a different kind of pain. Don’t worry, though. I won’t do it to you, especially that it is not really necessary.”
“Oh.” Why the heck was she saddened by that?
But looking at Yeseus’ lean build, cool aura, strong demeanour, and strikingly blue eyes, it would be a waste to not have him all by herself.
“You seem disappointed.” Yeseus let out a short laugh. “I stand by my morals. I know that you humans have what you call ‘free will’ and that you hate it when you are forced. Besides, I’ll still protect you even if you are not my mate. Although I’ll have to apologize for yesterday. I just hope you were satisfied.”
Klishei put a finger to his mouth. “Please don’t casually mention it.” She was burning red. “But yeah, I admit, it was…good. I just could not understand why my body reacted that way.”
“The day you became eighteen, your pheromones matured and your scent revealed your location to Daevar. It’s in your nature to feel on edge. But since we had sex, your pheromones have now cooled for a bit. You were needing relief. I was nearby. Both of our essence sought for each other.”
Yeseus took the book from her hand and put it back on the shelf. She stared at his frame, fully remembering how he cradled her securely as he pumped into her—steady, strong, and consistent. She held on with her life, burying her head in his chest but she could not suppress her mouth.
Klishei hesitated to ask but her curiosity won. “And? When will my pheromones be, uhm, active again?”
Yeseus looked back at her with a small smirk, enjoying her question as if she was implying something.
“At the most, a week from now. But it can be as short as three days.”
