Chapter 141: Darius Wrath

Darius POV

“They defeated the hybrid.”

The words hung in the command chamber like a bad smell.

I stood at the center of the room, hands clasped behind my back, staring at the holographic display of the academy ruins. Smoke still rose from the battlefield. Heat signatures flickered, survivors gathering, reorganizing.

Resisting.

My son stood among them.

Of course he did.

One of my officers swallowed. “Lord Darius… shall we proceed with full deployment?”

I didn’t answer immediately.

Instead, I zoomed the display closer, straight to Elias.

There he was. Standing beside Ronan. Alive. Radiating power that even the monitors struggled to measure. The Omega my late wife’friend had engineered. The Omega meant to reshape the hierarchy itself.

And he had chosen Ronan over destiny.

Over me.

“How disappointing,” I murmured.

The officer shifted nervously. “Sir?”

I turned slowly. “Deploy everything.”

He blinked. “Everything?”

“Every remaining Ascendant squad,” I said calmly. “Release the reserve Alphas. Activate suppression drones. I want that academy buried under pressure.”

“Yes, sir.”

“And one more thing,” I added.

He hesitated. “My lord?”

“Prepare the final unit.”

Silence fell across the chamber. Even my most hardened soldiers stiffened.

“Sir… the ultimate hybrid isn’t fully stabilized,” another officer said carefully. “If we deploy it now…”

“It will complete its purpose,” I finished.

My gaze returned to the hologram. To Elias.

“To bring the Omega to me.”

I rested my fingers lightly on the console. “My son has forgotten what it means to belong to this bloodline. Perhaps it’s time I remind him.”

The room fell quiet.

Then alarms began to sound, deployment confirmations, troop mobilizations, weapons systems activating across the compound.

War was beginning.

“Ronan,” I murmured to the empty air. “Let’s see how long your loyalty survives this.”

Ronan POV

“Everyone listen up!”

My voice echoed across the shattered courtyard.

Cadets, injured fighters, surviving Alphas and Betas…all of them turned toward me. Faces bruised. Tired. But ready.

Beside me, Elias stood steady, his presence alone keeping half the crowd grounded.

“They’re coming back,” I said plainly. “Stronger this time.”

A murmur spread.

One of the younger Alphas raised his hand. “How many?”

I didn’t lie. “All of them.”

Silence.

Then Elias stepped forward beside me. His voice was calm, but carried across the entire courtyard. “We’ve already survived worse than numbers.”

Some of them straightened at that.

Another cadet swallowed. “But… what if we can’t hold them?”

“Then we hold each other,” Elias said simply. “That’s how we’ve made it this far.”

I glanced at him, a small smile tugging at my mouth despite everything. “You’re getting good at speeches.”

He shot me a quick look. “Don’t get used to it.”

A faint ripple of laughter broke the tension.

Good. They needed that.

Suddenly….

A low rumble echoed from the distance. Then another. I turned toward the academy gates.

Dust rose beyond the broken walls. Heat signatures flared across the horizon….dozens. No. Hundreds.

“Positions!” I barked.

The courtyard exploded into motion. Fighters scrambled into defensive lines, dragging barriers into place, helping the injured move to safer ground.

Elias stepped closer to me. “This is it.”

“Yeah,” I said quietly.

His fingers brushed mine briefly…intentional. Grounding.

Our pheromones touched instinctively, a low, steady exchange that sharpened my focus and steadied my pulse. Not overwhelming. Just… there.

“You okay?” he asked softly.

“Always am when you’re with me.”

His lips curved faintly. “Liar.”

“Maybe,” I admitted. “But I’m not running.”

“Good,” he whispered.

The first wave hit seconds later.

Ascendant forces poured through the shattered gates….armored Alphas, suppression drones hovering overhead, shock units moving in tight formation.

“Hold the line!” I shouted.

Combat erupted instantly.

An Alpha charged me head-on. I met him halfway, blocking his strike and driving my elbow into his ribs. He staggered. I finished him with a clean takedown.

To my left, Elias moved like a living pulse.

His pheromones surged…not wild, not uncontrolled. Strategic. He pushed calm into our fighters, disorientation into the enemy. Two Ascendant guards stumbled mid-charge, suddenly unsteady.

“Now!” he called.

Our cadets struck instantly.

For a moment, we held. Then more forces flooded in.

“They just keep coming,” one Beta gasped nearby.

“We keep fighting,” I replied.

A suppression drone swooped low, firing a pulse toward Elias. I reacted instantly, tackling him aside. The blast hit the ground where he’d stood, sending debris flying.

“You okay?” I asked.

He nodded quickly. “Yes. You?”

“Still pretty.”

He huffed a breath that might’ve been a laugh.

Then he reached for me again, not physically. Through the bond.

Our pheromones intertwined mid-combat, strengthening, sharpening. Every movement felt clearer. Every threat easier to read.

“Behind you,” he murmured.

I spun and blocked a blade aimed for my back.

“Got it.”

We moved together, back-to-back for a moment, holding the center while chaos swirled around us. Fighters rallied at the sight, drawing courage from our stance, our connection.

“They’re holding!” someone shouted.

Hope flickered.

Then…

The air changed. Heavy. Oppressive.

Even before I saw him, I felt him.

Darius.

He walked through the battlefield like the chaos didn’t touch him. Calm. Controlled. Untouchable. His presence alone made several fighters hesitate.

My jaw tightened.

“Ronan,” he called, voice carrying effortlessly across the noise.

I stepped forward, ignoring the protests around me.

“Stay back,” I told Elias quietly.

“Not happening,” he replied.

Of course not. We faced Darius together.

He stopped a few meters away, gaze moving between us. Assessing. Calculating.

“You’ve grown stronger,” he said to me. “I’ll give you that.”

“Save the praise,” I replied. “Leave.”

His lips curved faintly. “I didn’t come for you.”

His eyes settled on Elias.

“I came for what belongs to me.”

I stepped slightly in front of Elias. “He’s not yours.”

Darius sighed softly. “Still clinging to that illusion.”

Around us, fighting continued, but quieter now. Tenser. Like the battlefield itself was holding its breath.

“I’ll make this simple,” Darius said. “Surrender the Omega. I spare the rest.”

“No,” I said instantly.

Elias’s voice followed, steady. “Never.”

Darius studied us both for a long moment.

Then he nodded once. “As expected.”

He lifted his wrist and tapped a command. The ground beneath the courtyard trembled.

A deep mechanical sound echoed from below…massive doors unlocking somewhere beneath the academy ruins.

My instincts screamed.

“Darius,” I said slowly. “What did you just do?”

He smiled.

“Since you’ve proven capable of defeating my earlier creations… it’s only fair I use my finest.”

The earth split behind him.

A massive platform began to rise from beneath the broken courtyard, metal grinding against stone. Something stood on it…huge. Still. Contained behind reinforced restraints.

Even from a distance, I could feel its presence. Wrong. Powerful. Engineered beyond reason.

Elias’s hand tightened around mine. “Ronan…”

The platform locked into place.

Restraints released with a series of sharp metallic clicks.

The figure stepped forward slowly, taller than any Alpha I’d ever seen. Eyes glowing faintly. Body lined with control markings and hybrid augmentations far beyond the previous one.

Darius’s voice cut through the silence.

“My ultimate hybrid.”

The creature’s gaze locked onto Elias. Then it moved. Fast. Too fast.

Before I could react fully, it crossed the battlefield in a blur and landed directly in front of us, cracking the ground beneath its weight.

Cadets scattered. Fighters stumbled back.

And then…. It reached for Elias. I lunged to block. But the hybrid was faster. Its hand closed around Elias’s throat, lifting him slightly off the ground.

“Target acquired,” it said coldly.

My heart slammed against my ribs.

“Elias!”
