Chapter 142: The Hybrid Clash
Elias POV
The hybrid’s hand tightened around my throat. Air vanished.
My feet left the ground, boots scraping uselessly against empty space as its grip locked like iron. Up close, its eyes weren’t just glowing, they were empty. Programmed. Cold. Like I was nothing but a target.
“Target secured,” it said again, voice flat.
Panic clawed up my chest.
Then…
“Let him go!”
Ronan’s roar cracked through the battlefield.
A split second later, the hybrid’s head snapped to the side as Ronan slammed into it with full Alpha force. The impact shook the ground. Its grip loosened just enough for me to gasp and twist free.
I stumbled back, coughing, throat burning.
“Elias!” Ronan grabbed my arm, pulling me behind him for a second. “Are you hurt?”
I forced air into my lungs. “No… I’m good. I’m good.”
The hybrid straightened slowly, like nothing had happened. Its neck tilted once. Bones cracked back into place.
Then it looked at us again.
Together.
“Well,” I muttered hoarsely, “that’s not terrifying at all.”
Ronan’s jaw tightened. “Stay close to me.”
“Not happening,” I shot back, stepping beside him. “We fight together.”
His eyes flicked to mine…sharp, worried, stubborn.
Then he nodded once. “Together.”
The hybrid moved. I barely saw it.
One moment it stood twenty feet away. The next it was in front of us, fist already swinging.
“Down!” Ronan shoved me aside and blocked the blow. The force of it drove him back several steps, boots grinding across cracked stone.
I recovered instantly and pushed my pheromones outward.
Not wildly.
Precisely.
The air shifted, my Omega scent threading through the chaos, wrapping around Ronan’s Alpha energy. The connection snapped into place like it always did now. Strong. Clear. Alive.
Ronan inhaled sharply. “There you are.”
“I’ve got you,” I whispered.
The hybrid lunged again. This time we moved at the same moment.
Ronan met it head-on, strength against strength. I circled, releasing a sharp pulse of destabilizing pheromones straight at the hybrid’s sensory receptors.
It faltered.
Just for a second.
“Now!” I shouted.
Ronan struck its side with brutal force. The hybrid staggered back a step, boots cracking the ground beneath it.
It recovered instantly and swung again…faster. Smarter.
“Elias, left!”
“I see it!”
I ducked under its arm and drove a focused pheromone surge straight into its chest. The air around us thickened, vibrating with the force of it. The hybrid’s movements slowed slightly, like its internal systems were fighting conflicting commands.
“It’s working!” I breathed.
“Then don’t stop,” Ronan said.
He moved with me…perfect synchronization. Every time I pushed pheromones, he struck. Every time he forced it back, I destabilized its balance. Our rhythms locked together like we’d trained for this our entire lives.
Maybe we had.
The hybrid growled…an actual sound this time. Almost human. Almost angry.
“Adaptive response initiated,” it said.
“Oh, come on,” I muttered. “Can’t you just stay confused?”
It surged forward with renewed speed.
Ronan grabbed my waist and pulled me back just as its fist slammed into the ground where I’d stood. Stone exploded upward in shards.
“Okay,” he said through clenched teeth. “It’s learning.”
“Then we hit harder.”
Our bodies brushed as we moved…shoulder to shoulder, chest to back, constantly adjusting. Every touch sent sparks through my nerves. Not distracting. Fueling.
Our pheromones deepened automatically, responding to proximity, to adrenaline, to each other. The bond between us pulsed stronger with every second of contact.
“You feel that?” I murmured.
“Yeah,” Ronan replied, voice rough. “I feel everything.”
The hybrid charged again. This time we didn’t retreat.
I released a full harmonic wave…Omega pheromones layered with emotional control and raw force. Ronan answered instantly, his Alpha energy surging in perfect alignment with mine.
The air around us vibrated.
The hybrid hit the wave mid-charge and stumbled. For the first time, real disruption showed in its movements. Its eyes flickered. Its steps lost precision.
“Push it!” Ronan shouted.
“I am!”
We advanced together.
Every step forward was synchronized. Every breath shared. Our pheromones wrapped around the hybrid like chains…binding, confusing, suppressing its aggression.
It swung wildly. Ronan blocked and countered. I flooded its senses again. Over and over. A relentless rhythm.
“You’re not taking him,” Ronan growled.
The hybrid dropped to one knee.
Hope flared in my chest.
“It’s going down,” I whispered.
Ronan moved closer to me, shoulders brushing. “Stay with me.”
“Always.”
Our hands touched briefly…fingers grazing. A surge of heat shot through me, sharp and electric. Not just battle adrenaline. Something deeper. Hungrier.
Dangerous.
The hybrid tried to rise. I pushed another wave. Ronan slammed it back down.
For a moment…It looked like we were winning.
Across the battlefield, fighters paused, watching. Waiting.
Even Darius stood still, eyes narrowed.
“End it,” Ronan said quietly.
I nodded.
Drawing in a deep breath, I gathered everything, every ounce of pheromone control, every emotion, every memory of fear and strength and love. Then I released it in one focused surge straight into the hybrid’s core.
The air exploded with power.
The hybrid froze.
Completely still.
Silence fell across the battlefield.
I exhaled slowly. “We did it.”
Ronan’s hand slid briefly against my back, steadying. “Yeah… we did.”
Then….
The hybrid’s head lifted. Too smoothly. Its eyes flared brighter than before.
“Override engaged,” it said.
My stomach dropped. “Ronan…”
A low vibration built in the air. Not sound. Scent. Pheromones.
But not like mine.
Not like any Omega or Alpha I’d ever felt.
Toxic. Violent. Engineered for destruction.
The hybrid’s chest expanded as if drawing breath for the first time.
Then it released a massive pheromone wave that slammed into us like an explosion.
