Chapter 25 025

Chapter 25 025
Joey's POV

"Father, Danica isn't home yet. I told you she would be up to no good at the royal palace, didn't I? But you didn't listen to me! What if she already got us all in trouble?" I yelled angrily, not liking how composed and calm he looked even in times like this.

"You don't have to worry, Joey. I got a letter from the Alpha. She would be undergoing trial at the royal clinic for a week, however in the next three days, she can't come home. It's a direct order from Alpha Alexander himself" Father explained and I felt my head pound.

"What? What do you mean by trial?" I asked, eyes narrowing at my father but then the tiny confirmation smile curled up at the corner of his lips.

"Your sister is going through the trial to become a staff member at the royal clinic. If she passes through this in flying colors, she could become a doctor. Not just the useless Omega she had always been" Father explained, his eyes glinting with pride. It made my stomach churn with irritation.

"Father, you know how wrong this is. It is in many ways, countless shades of wrong. We all know Danica isn't skilled enough to undergo the royal trial. Saving the Gamma's daughter was just by pure luck. She did it to get close to Alpha Alexander. Don't tell me you really believe she did that with good intentions?" I countered with wide eyes, my blood boiling hot in my veins.

"Whatever her intentions were, It doesn't matter as long as she passes the trial" Father added and I scoffed inwardly.

"But if she doesn't? We'll all have to go down with her? Have you forgotten how Alpha Alexander treats those who pretend to be good but only end up slipping up? To him, they're the worst and he treats them like the worst beings they are!" I half yelled, hoping to convince him out of the stupid pride he just felt.

"She wouldn't be stupid to take on the trial if she wasn't so sure of herself" He muttered firmly, almost as if he was trying to convince himself.

Good. That doubt would suffice just fine.

"It wouldn't end with just her, father. The entire Grayson family you built with your sweat, tears and blood will vanish into thin air. And what's worse? We'll never be remembered in a good way. That's why I'm scared, father. Trust me, I want Danica to shine too, but not when no one has confidence in her abilities. Not when a lot of lives are on the line here" I added calmly and I watched his thumb graze his beard slowly.

He was considering my words. The sense that always seems to be present whenever I suggest anything. The favorable outcomes my suggestions had brought in the past. I knew in my gut that he is considering all that and thinking of either playing it safe or trusting his useless outcast of a daughter to shine.

"You can always send Joey into the palace to make sure Danica really doesn't have a bad intent about any of this, Fergus" my mother spoke and I smirked inwardly.

Of course, that was the one woman that always thinks the same way I do. We've never gone wrong with our decisions... like ever.

"Would you?" Father asked, turning to me and I nodded once.

"I don't mind running a few errands for my Father" I added with a small sad smile and he gave me that soft look I've seen in his expression whenever he looks at his little daughter many years ago. Only she does not get to have that anymore.

It took a while to achieve it all to myself but it was quite easy after the old witch's death. The loving and proud look and whatever soft spot was left in his rock hard heart were all mine now. Danica doesn't stand a chance anymore and I'm going to do everything in my ability to keep it that way.

No sneaky bitch would put me in a hassle after all I've worked so hard to achieve.

"But to do that, we have to send a letter requesting access to the royal palace and then wait in line for ages until it gets reviewed or approved by the Alpha. Probably in the next two full moons? If we're lucky?" Father added seriously, though the hint of sarcasm was palpable in his words.

"We don't have to go through all that, when you have me. I'm just going to sneak my way in, have a word with Danica and come back out within a few minutes, Father. I have my wolf, I can sniff her out and find her location in an instant. Alpha Alexander would be too busy to notice a she-wolf infiltrate his palace." I explained and he nodded with a small smile. My mom had a proud smile on her face too.

"You do that, Joey. But don't get caught, especially not by the Alpha." He warned and I nodded once.

"Of course, Father. Trust me" I responded as he walked off to his study.

"That was a smart move, Joey." Mother mused once he was out of sight.

"I've always taken after you, Mother" I flattered her and she gave me her full-blown pretty smile.

"But what do you plan to do after talking to her? If she went through all that hassle to get there in the first place, she won't come back home with you" Mother reasoned and I rolled my eyes almost visibly.

That bitch is going to pay for stressing me like this. I'm going to make her pay heavily.

"She doesn't have to come home with me easily, Mom. I'm going to make her leave that palace the hard way. Father would have no trust in her when I'm done with her and that pride? It would be completely crushed to the tiniest bits" I told her confidently and she laughed gracefully.

"You do that, daughter. I'm always on your side, even when it seems like I'm not. You know that, right?" She asked and I nodded knowingly.

Of course I know that. I knew it all along. My mother's love for her daughter would never be divided towards a bitch whose mother caused her a lot of hassle before
finally granting her the peaceful marriage she deserved.
