Chapter 107 107

Chapter 107 107
Danica’s POV

‘Martha?’ I wondered silently, my eyes raking through her in the same manner she did to me just a second ago.

“What are you doing here, Martha?” Alexander’s voice cut through the air, his tone calmer than I expected, confirming my suspicions about her identity.

“I just wanted to see you. Is that too much?” she muttered, her voice silky smooth. The type that can convince any man into doing whatever she asked within a blink. It made me so darn uncomfortable. Even more so when Alexander gave no comment to that.

Was that on purpose? Or did he just not find her question worthy enough of getting an answer?

I wished it was the latter but even that didn’t seem sufficient enough to make her learn her place. She actually smirked at me while rolling her eyes right now.

I scoffed in response, giving her a roll of my eyes as well.

Alexander grabbed his jacket and my bottle of water. He drank from it then handed it to me. I almost missed it as I was busy giving Martha a repeat of every expression she sent my way. But I didn’t. I took the bottle from him, opened the lid and drank from the same bottle, without breaking eye contact with Martha.

I saw her composure slip a bit just before she quickly caught herself.

Alexander started walking towards the entrance by the time I stopped drinking, and Martha went after him immediately.

“Alexander…” she purred, stylishly placing her hand on his forearms. He pulled back, leaving her hand dangling in shame, but she didn't back off.

“I want to take a run to the forest.” She muttered when Alexander pinned her with a stern look.

He frowned slightly, shrugging before turning to leave again. “Then take Killian with you or go by yourself” he said and I just stood behind, watching their back and forth with an uneasy feeling tugging at my chest.

“But you always went with me before. I don't want Killian to go with me. I want you” she said again and my heart skipped a hard beat.

He always follows her when she takes a run? And now she's asking again, is he going to follow her this time as well? Why is he not rejecting her directly? Or am I just overthinking things?

The questions ran rent free in my head and I couldn't even bring myself to speak.

“I don't have the luxury of spending time with anyone for the sake of baseless things, Martha. Either go by yourself, go with Killian or just sit the fuck in a corner and rethink what your life mission would be this time” he muttered as he walked towards the door and I stole the moment of Martha's shock at his response to go after Alexander.

“You do have a few minutes to spare for my stiff shoulders, don't you?” I murmured, tugging at his arm.

He glanced down at me, his face softening so fast that it was impossible to believe that he had a scowl in his face just seconds ago.

“Of course I do, we can't possibly leave you sore when you've been such a good girl, can we?” he muttered and my core missed a heartbeat.

The way he said it sent a delicious jolt through my body. I literally fought the urge to stick my tongue out to Martha as I walked out with my arm entwined with Alexander's.

"Fine, I'm going to tell Killian to go with me" she muttered, stomping off in obvious anger.

The moment she disappeared out of sight, I stylishly removed my arm from Alexander's. Maybe he didn't notice, but even if he did, he was doing a good job pretending not to. He didn't even say a single word, and that alone made me more worked up.

I stopped walking abruptly. Then he finally paid me the attention I needed.

"Come on, Danica. You know I don't have all the time in the world" he muttered and I blinked at him in disbelief. He didn't just say that...

"But he did" Aurora countered and I swallowed the lump that grew in my lungs before moving my rooted legs to follow him.

The moment we got back to the room, I did the unbelivable. I turned down his offer to give me a massage before going back to work. But then again, it was only normal for me to do that, since he was so eager to return to his routine instead of asking why I acted out subtly five minutes ago.

"What did you just say?" he asked in disbelief and I shrugged, raising an unamused eyebrow at him.

"I said, I don't need a massage anymore. I'm perfectly fine and definitely not sore as you can see." I told him and I didn't miss the hard line that crossed his annoyingly, perfectly sculptured face, like he knew something was wrong but still didn't care to ask.

All my joints ached badly right now, I'd rather have them amputated than go around walking with with every move screaming wounded proud bitch. But right now, I'd rather that than let Alexander give me a massage after what he just did.

He gave me a leveled stare, as if trying to figure me out on his own for almost two minutes, but eventually, he simply shrugged, turned and started towards the door.

"Are you sure?" he asked and I almost scoffed in his face. But I held back.

"Oh, I'm so damn sure." I muttered and he nodded once, turning to walk out of the room.

"And even if I badly need one, I'd just ask Killian to help me out" I added and I immediately regretted it. I shouldn't have said that. I knew that well, but I didn't regret it enough to take my words back.

"You didn't just say that" he countered, pinning me with a dark glare.

I didn't flinch. Just stood my ground with crossed arms and equally icy glare seated in place.

"Funny, because your ears are sharper than my entire family's combined and I just said exactly what you thought you heard" I responded and he turned to face me completely, taking a step towards me with each passing minute.

"Don't test me like that, Danica. I can have his head brought to you faster than you can blink twice" he muttered and I decided to get him angrier by shrugging like I don't give a shit.

"That's the thing, Alexander. I don't particularly care if you wipe out the entire pack house because of what I just said because it's the damn truth and I'm not taking it back. Have Killian beheaded and I'm not the one who would go through the stress of looking for a warrior as talented as he is with decades of experience and a sense of loyalty that he has for you. That literally sounds like a YOU problem" I muttered and his jaw literally fell to the ground, and not in a sophisticated way.

He looked mad... livid... bring more words. His eyes were burning so hard, that I almost feel bad for Killian that didn't even know what problem I've gotten him into.

"What the hell is your problem, Danica?" he muttered with gritted teeth, like he was trying hard to remain calm with me.

"Which of them? Because right now, I can assure you that I have a lot of problems. Is it the part where I need to know why you're leaving out the casualties and calling me by my name like you hate my entire generation? Or the part where I'm waiting for you to tell me who that woman is, and why she's here?" I asked and he ran his fingers through his hair, making a hot mess of the strands.

"Her name is Martha" he muttered and I shook my head, frowning.

"Who is she to you, Alexander?"
