Chapter 175 Lover Comes Searching

Chapter 175 Lover Comes Searching

"I came looking for you." Logan didn't mince words. He'd been smoking more lately—after just one sentence, he reached for his pocket, pulling out a crumpled cigarette. He didn't care about its condition, just stuck it in his mouth and lit it. "Do you know how long you've been in there?"

As he spoke, the lit cigarette's tip glowed with embers. Smoke rolled from his constantly moving lips. His uncovered right eye locked onto Charles as his hand holding the match gave a light shake, the extinguished stick tossed casually out the window.

Charles's gaze sharpened, his breath catching for an instant. "How long?"

Logan held the cigarette between two fingers, taking a drag through clenched teeth. "Thirty-five days."

"What?" Charles jolted. "Thirty-five days?"

Actually, Charles had suspected he'd been inside for quite a while, but he never imagined it would be thirty-five days!

His mind immediately went to what Xavier and the others had mentioned before—that ordinary people reached their limit after less than a week in the Main World. Yet he felt no discomfort. Could it be that during an examination period, the mental suppression actually lessened?

Charles immediately voiced his question.

However, Logan shook his head lightly. "You're wrong. On the contrary, when someone undergoes an examination, the mental suppression multiplies."

Charles froze slightly, then understanding dawned. His breathing slowed as he spoke word by word: "Which means I've effectively been in the Main World for seventy days?"

Logan nodded, reaching over to squeeze his arm. "Look at you—still completely unaffected."

Charles stood slightly dazed, letting Logan handle him.

His mind was nearly overwhelmed by the shock of those thirty-five days Logan had mentioned.

It made him think of Abigail.

Though the mental world's time flow was much slower than reality, thirty-five days was still enough for at least fifteen days to pass in the real world.

After all this time, what must Abigail think?

Charles couldn't help hunching over, hands pressed to his forehead, waves of cold washing through his heart. He really might be about to lose Abigail.

From Abigail's perspective, her boyfriend had brought a naked woman home to sleep in her house, then, after being kicked out, had gone completely silent.

Under those circumstances, how could there possibly be any chance of reconciliation?

Charles felt so sick he could barely keep from retching.

No one understood his state of mind.

Logan smoked his cigarette, choking smoke filling the entire carriage. Isis had long since transformed into bandages wrapped around Charles's forearm to escape the unpleasant smell.

After the carriage had traveled for some time, Logan finished his first cigarette.

He tossed the butt straight out the window.

"Look at that—quite a few anomalies around lately."

Logan suddenly started talking. He frowned, watching the anomalies constantly flashing past outside, with obvious irritation in his tone.

Charles only glanced once, saying nothing.

Whether from staying too long in this Main World or not, his head was already starting to feel dizzy.

The carriage entered Dubey Street.

Number 305 was just ahead.

Logan spoke again. "A woman's been looking for you. She arrived three days ago. I saw her crying pretty hard, so I came to check."

Hearing this, Charles looked at him. "Who?"

"Said her name was Abigail."

The moment Logan finished speaking, Charles immediately leaned in close, eyes wide. "Abby?"

His voice shot up, carrying extreme shock.

Logan chuckled. "Looks like your sweetheart."

"She's my girlfriend, not some sweetheart." Charles's face went cold as he corrected him.

He moved closer to the carriage door, unable to wait to get out, anxiety flooding his heart.

Charles was no stranger to how one reached the Main World. Thinking about what trials Abigail must have endured to get here made his heart ache unbearably.

"Hey, don't rush. She's out right now. You might need to wait for her." Logan patted his shoulder lightly, tone calm in his attempt to soothe.

But Charles didn't listen. He leaned halfway out the window, craning his neck to look ahead. "Out? Who could she be out with?"

"Juno."

Logan dropped the name.

Hearing it, Charles was slightly surprised, but quickly nodded in understanding.

He'd spent thirty-five days in the examination hall. Juno, who'd left earlier, must have recovered by now. But the question was, how had she met up with Abigail?

Still, if Abigail had come with Juno, she probably hadn't suffered too much, right?

Charles thought to himself.

Reaching 305 Dubey Street, when Xavier saw Charles, the book in his hands dropped to the floor. He didn't spare it a glance, walking straight to Charles and pulling him around to examine him from every angle.

"Oh! Good Lord! You actually made it back?" Xavier's eyes shone. For the first time, he showed enthusiasm toward Charles. "Thirty-five days! My God, you're an absolute freak of nature!"

Charles felt somewhat embarrassed by this commentary, turning his head to stare at the entrance. "When will Abby and them be back?"

Hearing him unable to stop mentioning Abigail, Logan teased again, "Didn't know you were still tied to mama's apron strings."

Charles didn't want to acknowledge that crude remark.

A few minutes later, sounds finally came from the entrance.

Abigail followed Juno inside. A scarf wrapped her head, and as she bent down to set things down, the fabric blocked most of her vision.

Juno walked ahead and saw Charles first.

She startled, eyes filling with shock. She'd thought Charles must have died in the examination, never expecting to see him alive again here.

"Oh, Mr.—" Her greeting hadn't even left her lips before Charles brushed past her, heading straight for Abigail.

"Abby!"

Charles stepped forward and pulled Abigail into his arms, his heart brimming with the joy of recovery after loss.

Abigail jumped at his sudden movement.

But hearing Charles's voice, her eyes immediately reddened. She raised her hands to return the embrace, voice choked with emotion. "Charles!"

Since entering the Main World, almost everyone had believed Charles was dead.

At first, she'd clung to hope, but watching Logan shake his head each day as he returned, the grief in her heart had accumulated more and more. As time passed, even she had almost accepted that Charles must be gone.

But just then, he suddenly appeared and wrapped her in an enormous hug!

Charles hadn't seen Abigail in so long. Overwhelmed with emotion, he cupped her face and kissed her, unable to hold back.

The others in the room immediately began protesting loudly.
