Chapter 159 Wenfu

Chapter 159 Wenfu

The moment Xavier said this, Juno immediately looked at Charles. As someone who had been to the Main World multiple times as a trial participant, she'd heard of Nyarlathotep's reputation.

This Outer God was quite renowned, but what method could possibly hide someone from its sight?

Previously, Augustine had produced an Invisibility Spell in the form of a temporary tattoo, but Xavier's technique was clearly more impressive. At first glance, Charles seemed unchanged, but soon Juno noticed something off.

Since he'd collapsed earlier, a faint point of light had appeared around him.

But the light was so dim, and it happened to be positioned perfectly in Charles's blind spot. Even now, only Juno had noticed it.

"What?"

Charles truly hadn't noticed. He lowered his head, looking left and right at his body, yet somehow kept missing the faintly flickering point of light.

Left with no choice, Xavier walked over and grabbed the glowing point with one hand.

"Right here." He swung his arm—from Charles's perspective, just an empty gesture.

Charles frowned, looking over as Xavier's outstretched fist slowly opened. A point of light rapidly appeared and instantly flew off, darting toward Charles's face.

The light moved incredibly fast. The moment Charles saw it, he immediately dodged backward.

But the light had no intention of attacking him, and Charles couldn't find it again.

He turned his head, looking left and right, still unable to spot the light. He had a pretty good guess what was happening. His eyes shifted as he slowly moved his head, trying to see exactly where the light was moving.

But Charles still couldn't see it.

The feeling was like knowing there was a mosquito buzzing around you, but being unable to spot where it was.

"This is Wenfu, a spell from the Wang family," Xavier explained. He spread his fingers, revealing several points of light that didn't scatter randomly but floated quietly at his fingertips. "It lasts thirty days."

Charles leaned in closer to look.

They were incredibly tiny.

Fortunately, when not working, their flashing frequency was very slow, allowing Charles to see their true form.

They were strange creatures existing within transparent spheres, possessing human-like appearances with facial features, but their eyes were tightly shut as if asleep.

Yet they sensed Charles's approach. One by one, they raised their heads, and despite their closed eyes, precisely turned their faces toward him.

One point of light was one transparent sphere, and inside each sphere were five of these creatures.

At this moment, they all lifted their heads in unison, facing Charles.

They were beautiful, yet Charles felt an eerie sensation rising within him. He frowned, backing away slightly. "They look a lot like Shavalara."

Hearing the mention of Shavalara, Xavier nodded. "Wang designed Wenfu based on them."

"Wenfu's function is 'concealment.' It's like a designed anomalous artifact that can help you hide your tracks. In other words, unless you actively appear before people, it's nearly impossible for anyone or any anomaly to detect your presence."

Xavier withdrew his hand, and the Wenfu in his palm disappeared with it.

Charles looked around but still couldn't locate the Wenfu following near his head. They seemed to possess an innate instinct for hiding, especially from their target.

This was Juno's first encounter with Wenfu. Though they were manufactured anomalies, they still qualified as artifacts.

So Juno's collecting hobby lit up at this moment.

"Mr. Black, could I have a Wenfu?" Juno stepped forward from the side, shamelessly asking outright.

Xavier was equally straightforward. He opened his palm again, displaying the Wenfu. "Two hundred pounds each."

The price was absurdly steep. Juno froze, then looked at Charles. "Did he pay too?"

"Him? Someone else will foot his bill." Seeing Juno ask about Charles, Xavier chuckled softly, completely unconcerned. The Wenfu in his hand was about to disappear. "So, do you want one or not?"

Juno hesitated, but ultimately decided to buy one Wenfu.

The instant she paid, a Wenfu flew from Xavier's fingertips. In the blink of an eye, it reached Juno's side.

Juno's purchase also allowed Charles to see clearly how Wenfu operated.

They were like satellites orbiting Earth, maintaining a consistent distance as they circled.

Juno couldn't see her own Wenfu either. She raised her hand, trying to grab it like Xavier had, but caught nothing.

Pulling his gaze from Juno, Charles looked at Xavier. "That's it? It won't find me?"

This time, Xavier settled completely back into his seat. Hearing Charles's question, his page-turning hand didn't pause. "Of course. But you'd better not go outside."

Looking around at the room's decor, Charles ventured a guess. "It stops working once I leave this door?"

"Wrong." Xavier's voice was certain, his eyes carrying a teasing glint as he looked over. "If you go outside, you'll have to participate in an assessment. I'd hate for you to waste time."

The moment he said this, Charles instantly understood.

Anyone entering the Main World for the first time would be targeted by the anomalies here and immediately begin an assessment.

But Charles was different. Because of the previous Invisibility Spell, the Main World's anomalies had treated him as one of their own, never even considering starting an assessment with him.

Now that the Invisibility Spell was gone, Charles—who had never participated in an assessment—was like treasure in those anomalies' eyes. They'd naturally latch onto him the moment he appeared.

Constrained by this, Charles could only stay holed up in the room, reading books like Xavier.

He was a writer by profession, and Xavier's collection was all related to the Main World. Charles quickly became absorbed.

Only Juno had no interest in books.

Moreover, as the only one among the three who both wanted to go outside and could go outside, Juno completed most of the household chores over the following days.

To the point where Xavier even considered paying her to stay permanently and handle his daily needs.

However, a little money could never keep Juno in one place.

Logan arrived the day after Charles showed up. He knocked on the door in the evening. Outside, the wind blew through fairly strongly, whistling as it rattled the window frames.

Mixed with that sound was the knocking and a man's voice calling out.

"Hey! Xavier! Charles!"

Hearing the voice, Charles immediately moved to open the door, but Xavier stopped him. "Careful. It might be those guys from Songlu."
