CHAPTER 166 : THAT DAMN SMIRK
Hearing the words that had come out of the warrior's mouth, Bryan and Aiden froze immediately, shock taking over as their minds struggled to process what they had just heard.
Every shout and every fight around them faded as their eyes found her.
Their breath hitched as they watched her atop a black warhorse, cutting through vampires with deadly and precise strikes-the woman they had never thought they would see again…here.
Bryan and Aiden watched her and her every move like they were seeing a ghost.
It was too hard to believe that she was here, their Kira, and as the fighting continued, neither of them could move nor blink.
They thought that if they did, she might disappear, but when they finally blinked, they noticed…
She was real.
She…she was real.
Aiden, too focused on Kira, had not noticed that a vampire was creeping up behind him.
The vampire had seen how distracted he was and raised his sharp, curved dagger, ready to stab Aiden from behind, but unknown to the vampire, Kira, despite riding through enemies, noticed the movement, and without hesitation, she reached for her bow and arrow.
Still riding, she twisted her torso, one hand keeping control of her horse while the other reached over her shoulder, her fingers finding her bow, then an arrow from the quiver strapped to her back.
It was smooth and fast; the process not new to her as she locked eyes onto her target.
Aiden's back was still completely exposed, and as the vampire got ready to stab him, enjoying how he looked vulnerable from behind, Kira pulled the arrow back after she had nocked it, string stretched as she calculated the distance, wind, and movement all in a second.
Her fingers curled tighter around the bowstring as she pulled it back, aimed, and then…
She released.
The arrow whistled through the air, fast and silent, and Aiden, still lost in the sight of her, had no idea what was coming.
It was until he felt the arrow whistle past him that he turned immediately to see it pierced straight through the vampire's forehead, the sharpened tip of the arrow bursting out the back of the vampire's skull.
The vampire's dagger had slipped from his finger, his eyes wide as his body crumpled to the ground.
Seeing the vampire at his feet, Aiden's mind instantly connected what had just happened, and as fast as he had turned back, he spun back around.
Kira.
She was still atop her horse, killing vampires, slicing through them like they were nothing before her head turned in his direction, and then-
She smirked.
That damn smirk, and if that wasn't enough, she winked, then shouted, "Hiiyahh!" as she snapped the reins of her horse, her warhorse rearing before launching forward.
Then she was gone again, killing as many vampires as she could.
Smiling while still in awestruck belief, Aiden turned, locking eyes with Bryan, who also had the same reaction.
She was really here, and she still had that teasing nature, although she seemed different, but in the best way.
Aiden and Bryan let out a stunned chuckle and shook their heads, snapping back to reality.
The battle wasn't over yet, and now fueled by the sight of Kira, they charged into battle again.
They weren't going to let her fight alone even though she had people with her, and as the battle raged on, Kira, still mounted on her horse, slashed through the vampires like it was second nature.
She cut through any vampire foolish enough to challenge her in different ways-was it the head, arm, stomach? Wherever her sword met was cut off or cut through, and beside her were Lythari and the other elven warriors.
Their horses moved swiftly as they killed as well, and not a single elf dismounted.
They fought strong, like the wind, swift and deadly. But then reinforcements arrived, although it wasn't for them or for the werewolves…
It was for the vampires.
More vampires had arrived, pouring in through the border, ready to kill.
Kira, knowing that the battle was far from over, knew she had to do something.
She didn't want the pack to be destroyed more than it was because of the fight, and so she tightened her grip on the reins of her horse before swiftly dismounting.
As her boot hit the battlefield ground, she reached up and patted her horse's strong neck.
The horse trained for battle and which had also linked with her understood the signal instantly, and with a powerful snort, it turned and galloped toward Lythari.
"It would have been better for you all if you had never come in the first place," Kira muttered to herself as she stood in the middle of the battlefield, facing the border, her gaze settled on the horde of vampires that were fast approaching.
She closed her eyes, the battlefield quieted in her mind, and as she exhaled slowly and raised her hand, her eyes now opened, Bryan, Aiden, and the rest of the werewolf warriors who still fought wondered what she was doing, but soon enough, she was going to show them.
She muttered some words as she slowly lifted her hands, her fingers moving with grace. Then, her palm turned upward as she began to feel the heat of the sun against them, much stronger than it was against her body.
And as her hands moved in slow, soft circles, the light around her thickened, and the golden rays of the sun answered to her.
She began to move her hands, rotating them around her as if she were dancing, the soft light of the sun forming at her fingertips.
"What is she doing?" Aiden asked his brother, who was just beside him, as they watched her.
"I… I think she is channeling the light from the sun," Bryan answered, not understanding how that was possible, his expression one of pure shock.
Getting his answer, Aiden turned back to watch Kira, seeing as the light had grown bigger and started moving around her like water, shifting and flowing with the way she moved.
And as the vampires saw this, they hesitated, their instincts warning them of the danger ahead, but…
It was already too late.
